You’ve learned to make sentences negative by putting no before the verb. To say never or not ever, put nunca before the verb.
Nunca tomo el autobús. I never take the bus.
In Spanish, you’ll often use no and nunca or no and nada together in the same sentence. In that case, be sure to put no in front of the verb, and nunca or nada after the verb.
No tomo el autobús nunca. I never take the bus.Los sábados no hago nada. On Saturdays I don’t do anything.
Another negative word is nadie. It is always used with a singular verb form.
No toca la guitarra nadie. Nobody plays the guitar.Nadie toca la guitarra.
GramáticaYou’ve learned the question word ¿quién? (who?). ¿Quién? is used to ask about one person. When asking about more than one person, use ¿quiénes? (who?). Compare the two sentences below.
¿Quién es el chico rubio?Who is the blond boy?

GramáticaYou’ve learned to use gusta with the pronouns me, te, and le to talk about what just one person likes and dislikes. (To refer to a group of people use les gusta.)
When les gusta is translated literally, it means is pleasing to them or is pleasing to you (plural). Sometimes the phrases a ustedes, and a ellos or a ellas are added for clarification.
Look at the following literal translations:
¿A ustedes les gusta nadar? Is swimming pleasing to you?
¿A ellos les gusta preparar la cena juntos? Is preparing dinner together pleasing to them?

Talking about what you and your friends like to do together
To ask a group of friends what they like to do, say:
¿Qué les gusta hacer? … do you like…?
Y a Celia y Roberto, ¿ les gusta esquiar? … do they like to ski?
¿Les gusta acampar y pescar? … to camp … to fish?
They might answer:
Nos gusta hacer ejercicio o correr por la playa. We like to exercise or run on the beach.
No sé, pero les gusta bucear juntos. … to scuba dive together.

Talking about what you do during a typical week

Fewer young people own cars in Spain or Latin America than in the United States, so they often share rides with friends.

Giving the date¿Cuál es la fecha? What is the date?
¿Qué fecha es hoy? What is today’s date?
Hoy es el primero de diciembre. Today is the first of December.
Es el quince de enero. It’s the fifteenth of January.
El cuatro de este mes hay un examen. On the fourth of this month there is an exam.
Nota gramaticalThe formula for giving today’s date is el + number + de + month: el quince de junio. The first day of the month is called el primero. Note that in Spanish you omit the “on” in expressions like on the fifth.
La fiesta es el cinco de mayo. The party is on the fifth of May.

Nota culturalThe seasons in the southern cone of South America occur at opposite times of year from seasons north of the equator. Summer begins in December, and winter begins in June.
The equator runs through northern South America, where the weather is warm all year round. Here there are only two seasons, wet and dry. In the tropics, altitude plays a major role in climate. The Andes region is quite cold even though it’s near the equator.
