Sara Sadjady SAD11324268 Visual Communication Reflection Tuesday, November 20, 2012 At the start of the visual communication classes I felt very inspired, but not towards any one particular thing. I felt myself gaining knowledge of the non-mainstream culture, which society gives into so easily, and becoming more aware of the surroundings around me. Instead of going straight to magazines such as Vogue or listening to pop groups like One Direction I now seek out the less mainstream versions such as Pop magazine and find myself enjoying the likes of Radiohead and Tame Impala now a days. I must admit, this did not just begin this year. I feel it began last year on my HE course, International Preparation for Fashion. Although I must say I was not fully aware of this fact until starting the Creative Direction course this year. When the class was introduced to the project I was absent. The following week I and another classmate, Rachel, who hadn’t been there either were chosen to work with Sharifah and James. As we were already a class behind we got straight to work. Picking out our theme of 80’s club culture, the magazine Dazed & Confused, and being given the designer Balenciaga we knew we had our work cut out for us. We split the roles up and began to work. As the shoots stylist I knew the focus of my sketchbook would be mainly on the outfits therefore I would have to pay special attention to details. As I knew very little of what was involved in 80’s club culture I decided I best to start there. Beginning by looking into people such as Leigh Bowery and watching movies such as Party Monster I began to understand the topic at hand and get a good idea of what would be asked of me. I will say this topic would not be my first choice, however I am glad we choose it as it pushed me to explore a new topic. I then began to look into our designer and magazine. Balenciaga, a traditional Spanish brand, did an 80’s inspired season for Pre-Fall 2012. This helped guide me in the right direction as to creating a shoot that reflected the era yet still kept up with today’s trends. After researching for a few weeks it was time to pick out the outfits for the shoot. Five hours and seven hundred pounds later I had three shopping bags filled with clothes that were going to represent all of the elements going into the spread. After the fitting and preparation the shoot turned out to be a breeze. Everyone in our group preformed their own parts yet we still were able to help each other out without stepping on anyone’s toes. We met frequently throughout the project to make sure were all on the same page and gave each other feedback and ideas. I think our only downside to this terms project was when the backdrop in the studio came out the wall. However, after stressing out a bit, I got a call the next day, as I was the one who booked it, and it was all mended. At the end of the day I can gladly say I enjoyed all aspects of this project, even if they did push me out of my comfort zone. This is what has allowed me to see I am beginning to appreciate different styles more to create my own taste palette.

I'm going out to pick up clothes tomorrow and will send pics once ive got them. We also need to create a concept board, a call sheet, and a story board. I cant remember if we already split these up but if not maybe thats the best way to handle it?Sara

13:17Sara Sadjady okay so model 1 is set. hopefully model 2 is too? we got clothes and tried them on. Im going to switch out some things and pick up a few extras but will send pics this afternoon.I know in terms of photography we are pretty good to go. I think its best if we bring our sketchbooks and work to the shoot so everyone can get the idea and we can make sure we are on the same page. Im going to try and get the strobe light. J can you bring the disco ball ect.Rachel I checked with alyah and shes gonna need some medium sized makeup brushes, creme based paints, eye makeup (silvers,  

bright colors) , remover and cotton. Also maybe send her some pics for reference so she can get and idea.Let me know know if theres anything else we to take care of!
