From the PrincipalMusic and Arts

Congratulations to all of the boys

currently participating in the Catholic

Schools’ Performing Arts Festival. The

College has been notified that the CBC

Jazz Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble 1 and

Tyler Davies (Instrumental Solo) have all

received Honourable Mentions in their

respective sections. The CBC Rock Band

and Guitar Ensemble 2 have received

Certificates of Merit. These awards duly

recognise the outstanding talents and

efforts of all of our young musicians and

their tutors and conductors.

The Angelico Art Exhibition is conducted

each year as part of this Festival. It

provides a broad public forum through

which secondary students from across

Western Australia are able to display their

outstanding artistic talents. The official

opening of this exhibition took place at

Central Park on St Georges Terrace on

Monday evening of last week and the

work of seven of our students was on

display. Congratulations to Flinn Brown,

Jordan Culin, Adam Gavranic, Jonathon

Nolan, D’arcy O’Hara, David Oliveri,

Sam Sheridan and Jaedyn Stumbles for

the quality of their art pieces and to

their teachers, Mrs Zoe Francis and Mrs

Stephanie Hantzis, for their guidance and

encouragement of these boys.

One of the central philosophies of

the style of education offered at CBC

Fremantle is that no single aspect of

human development should be fostered

in isolation. An essential characteristic

of a Catholic education in the tradition

of Edmund Rice is the harmonious

development of the spiritual, emotional,

intellectual, cultural (artistic) and physical

dimensions of each individual. The school

continues to ensure that opportunities

are offered in each of these domains and

I commend all of the boys who engage

with these challenges.

Oblate Cup

The Oblates of Mary Immaculate have

had a long-standing association with the

parish of St Patrick’s, CBC Fremantle and

Mazenod College. In 2008, the decision

was made to bring these two very similar

schools together for a sporting challenge.

This year’s contest across a range of

winter sports was conducted on Tuesday

of this week and it was great to see

such a large number of boys involved

and enjoying the day. Thank you to

the parents and former students who

attended as supporters or assisted

as officials.

The trophies presented in each of the

sports are named after either Christian

Brothers or Oblate Priests who have been

instrumental in the history of one or both

Colleges. It was very pleasing to see a

number of them in attendance to present

the trophies named in their honour.

A special thank you is also due to all of

the staff coaches and to Mr McGrath for

his work in the preparation and smooth

running of the event. The main focus

of the day is the promotion of positive

relationships between these two schools

of similar size and values and this was

certainly accomplished.

CBC Family Mass

Among the many significant liturgies that

occur at the College each year, the two

Family Masses provide the opportunity

for our community to come together on a

voluntary basis to celebrate our common

sense of purpose. The celebration of the

mass is at the heart of our existence as

a faith community and provides impetus

to the challenge we face daily to conduct

our lives according to gospel values.

Our first Family Mass in May was very

well attended and resulted in Fr Tony

“One of the central philosophies of the style of education offered at CBC Fremantle is that no single aspect of human development should be fostered in isolation.”

commenting that we had nearly filled the

Basilica. This is our aim for the second

and final mass to be held on Saturday, 31

August at 6.00pm at St Patrick’s Basilica.

I warmly invite all families and friends

of CBC to this liturgy. I’m sure that

regular churchgoers will be granted

an exemption from their usual

parishes on this occasion. Those who

are not Catholic or are infrequent

churchgoers are also very welcome. As

a College which prides itself on being

inclusive, I would hope that everyone

would experience the same sense of

greeting and belonging at our mass.

All generations of your family are

welcome!

Mr Shaun Kenny

Principal

Stand By Me (1986)

As part of The Rite Journey programme,

Mr Joel Moss’s class is organising a movie

evening at the College on Tuesday 27 August from 6.30pm in the ALA.

Refreshments will be available from

6.30pm, with the movie starting at 7pm.

It is approximately 90 minutes long, so

expected finish is 8.30pm.

Stand By Me is set in 1959 and shows

the experiences of a group of four boys

at a similar age to our Year 9s. It has a

number of great messages within it about

friendship and growing up, and is almost

the prefect movie to link with The Rite

Journey programme.

Year 9 boys have been asked to invite

their Mentors for The Rite Journey to

attend with them, and parents are also

welcome.

The movie is classified for Mature

Audiences (M) due to some strong

language in a few scenes.

The challenge for Mr Moss’s Rite Journey

group is to organise the evening,

including displays, food, drinks and a

popcorn machine.

Tickets are $2.00 per person and will

be on sale over the coming days from

Mr Moss’s Year 9 Rite Journey class or

directly from Mr Moss in Room 103.

Each ticket will entitle the holder to a bag of popcorn and a soft drink as well as entry.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to support The Rite Journey students and see a classic movie. You can still purchase your tickets up until the afternoon of Monday 26 August.

Year 12 Accounting and

Finance Students recently

attended a half day seminar

provided by Curtin Business

School and the Institute of

Chartered Accountants.

Nicholas Lomma, Adam Pirozzi,

Benjamin Studniczky and

Benjamin Sheridan heard from

a variety of speakers from the

accounting profession and

then participated in a group

case study session designed to

extend their understanding of

the course.

The keynote speaker was

Amanda Cox , Chief Financial

Officer for the West Coast

Eagles. Ms Cox inspired the

gathered students with the

account of her swift rise from
