What is announced to Mary in today’s Gospel is the revelation of all that the prophets had spoken. It is, as Paul declares in today’s Epistle, the mystery kept secret since before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:9; 3:3–9). Mary is the virgin prophesied to bear a son of the house of David (Isaiah 7:13–14). And nearly every word the angel speaks to her today evokes and echoes the long history of salvation recorded in the Bible. Mary is hailed as the “daughter Jerusalem,” called to rejoice that her king, the Lord God, has come into her midst as a mighty savior (Zephaniah 3:14–17). The One whom Mary is to bear will be Son of “the Most High” an ancient divine title first used to describe the God of the priest-king Melchizedek, who brought out bread and wine to bless Abraham at the dawn of salvation history (Genesis 14:18–19). He will fulfill the covenant God makes with His chosen one, David, in today’s First Reading. As we sing in today’s Psalm, He will reign forever as highest of the kings of the earth, and He will call God “my Father.” As Daniel saw the Most High grant everlasting dominion to the Son of Man (Daniel 4:14; 7:14), His kingdom will have no end. He is to rule over the house of Jacob the title God used in making His covenant with Israel at Sinai (Exodus 19:3), and again used in promising that all nations would worship the God of Jacob (Isaiah 2:1–5). Jesus has been made known, Paul says today, to bring all nations to the obedience of faith. We are called with Mary today to marvel at all that the Lord has done throughout the ages for our salvation. And we too must respond to this annunciation with humble obedience that His will be done, that our lives be lived according to His word.

CHRISTMAS MASS SCHEDULE

12/24/20 - Christmas Eve Children's & Vigil Mass celebrated at 2 PM in the Chapel located at OLG School, 1990 Linden Road. Weather permitting, the Vigil Mass will be outdoors. Dress in warm clothing, wear face coverings and bring a chair to sit on. Livestream Mass available on the parish website, West Sac OLG YouTube Channel & Facebook.

Christmas Eve Mass celebrated at 12 AM midnight inside Church. Listen to Christmas Carols at 11:30 PM. The faithful must remain in a parked vehicle and worship virtually using a personal mobile device. For Communion, leave vehicles and form a line in Our Lady's courtyard to receive the Eucharist.

12/25/20 - Christmas Day Mass celebrated at 9 AM in the Chapel located at OLG School. The faithful must remain in a parked vehicle to virtually participate in the liturgy using a personal mobile device. When it is time for Communion, leave vehicles wearing face coverings and form a line in the breezeway, maintaining 6 feet social distance to receive the Eucharist in utmost reverence. An Usher will assist in collecting your offerings while in line.

Weather permitting, Christmas Day Mass at 11 AM celebrated outdoors in the open air at the school. Dress in warm clothing, wear face coverings and bring a chair to sit on. If raining, Mass will be moved inside the Chapel following the same process outlined above.

•Life Long Catholic Faith Formation

Baptism - Mandatory class for parents and godparents is scheduled for the first Wednesday of the month at 7pm in the rectory. Baptisms will be scheduled for the First Saturday at 11:30 am after completion of the class and all required paperwork. Please call the Parish Office to register for the class or to schedule the Baptism.

Children’s Religious Education/Catholic Faith Formation (CFF), K-8th - Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:45 pm at the school. Includes preparationin the 2nd grade to receive the First Eucharist; and preparation in the7th grade for Confirmation. Both sacraments require 2-year attendancein CFF. Classes for high school students that need the sacraments are heldon an as-needed basis. Call the Parish Office at (916) 371-4814.

Matrimony - Engaged couples should contact the Pastor to begin preparation a minimum of six months prior to the time you would like to be married. Please do not make any other arrangements before meeting with the Pastor.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) - Sessions for anyone wishing to learn more about the Catholic faith, especially the unbaptized, baptized Christians who want to join the Catholic Church, and baptized Catholics who wish to complete initiation with Eucharist and Confirmation. Classes in the Parish Center on Thursday nights 7-8:30 pm.

Youth Ministry - Graced Youth Ministry, the youth ministry program for our high school students meets alternating Sundays at 6:00 pm in the OLG School gym.

Communion for the Homebound - Please call the Parish office if you wish a Eucharistic Minister to visit.

Anointing of the Sick - Persons who are sick or who are going to have surgery may request the Sacrament of the Sick by calling the Parish office. One need not be in immediate danger of death.

St Vincent de Paul (SVDP) - If anyone in our Parish or greater community needs assistance, or if anyone would like to volunteer their time to work with our Parish SVDP program please call 916-371-5264.
