Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time 2017 "Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord." Psalm 89

Dear Parishioners and Friends, Last March I announced in the bulletin Fr. Fedek’s appointment as pastor of Immacu-late Conception (Talcott) and my appointment as pastor of Immaculate Conception (Highland Park). Since then my body has taken a sharp turn away from the good health I have enjoyed my whole life. As a result, I asked the Cardinal for permission to retire. He granted it and as of June 30, 2017 I have been officially in the “relaxation sector” with Pup, my “hound of heav-en.” This is a significant change for me since all the other moves in my priestly ministry have been from one parish to another parish. When I was a young priest and it was time to change an assignment, the general ra-tionale for all changes was that it was a good thing because one could become too familiar with people and a place or there was at least one person in the new parish that would come closer to the Lord through one’s arrival. While it was not all wrong, I have come to under-stand that what Christ also intended was for the priest to come closer to Him through the joys and unique challenges of each parish. As I enter retirement my soul and heart are smiling in gratitude for the grace to have come closer to the Lord through all my parochial experiences, as well as, for the get-well prayers and auto delivery of appetizing, healthy food these past several months. Thank you everyone! I will be in residence here at Immaculate Conception until the end of August when my rehab ends. At this point, God knows the rest of the story, but then again, God is the whole story! Prayers, Father Srenn

A heartfelt farewell to Father Srenn

Dear Father Srenn, On behalf of myself, and the music ministry team at Immaculate Conception, we wish you a fond farewell as you begin new adventures in your retirement. It is difficult to express the profound impact you have had on the music of our liturgical celebrations. You have been so very supportive of us. We have been able to try many new things over the last few years: Mozart and Schubert Masses, vibrant instrumentation for Christmas and Holy Week, moving the Bell Choir onto the main floor, redesign and relocation of the choir and instrument space, our Breaking Bread hym-nals, etc. I know I am just scratching the surface with that list. You may be leaving us but you will not be forgotten. Your leadership and patience has been inspirational to us all. With Gratitude, Scott Will Director of Music

Dear Fr. Srenn, The faculty, staff and students of Immaculate Conception School would like to thank you for your years of leadership and service. You presided over many school Masses, celebrated Confirmations and First Communions, heard students’ confessions, handed out diplomas at graduation, and visited school to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. We wish you health, happiness and peace as you begin the next phase of your life - retirement. Please keep us in your prayers as we will keep you in ours. Sue Canzoneri, Principal

Thank you, Fr. Srenn, for being our pastor these past four years. You have been a true blessing to us! We have been enriched by your deep faith in Christ and the Eucharist, as well as by your excellent preaching. We appreciate all of the time you spent mentor-ing us and for all of your valuable advice. We have learned so much from you about our precious Catholic Faith. We will always be grate-ful for this. God bless you in your future endeavors! You are in our prayers. And of course, we’ll miss you too, Pup! Deacon Rick and Carol

Dear Fr. Srenn, Like most parishioners, I didn't appreciate all the administrative tasks (and head-aches) a pastor deals with daily. Working with you on Parish Transformation, the Finance Council, To Teach Who Christ Is, St. Vincent de Paul and other ministries, I witnessed closely the broad scope of your responsibilities. How lucky we were to have your wisdom and experience these past four years guiding us through some necessary and complex projects. IC now has a real rectory with space for three priests; we have a stronger handle on parish and school finances; we're finally get-ting a sorely-needed new roof on the church. And who ever would have thought that we would meet our To Teach Who Christ Is goal of more than $1 million! Of course, this all pales relative to the most precious gift you shared with us: your un-dying devotion to our faith in Christ. Because of you, I and many others have be-come better Catholics. Gratefully, Colleen Mulligan

Members of Crossroads will be passing through Chicago. They will be speaking after all Masses next weekend, July 8th and 9th. Crossroads was founded in 1995 by Steve Sanborn, a student at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. The mis-sion of Crossroads is to respond to Pope St. John Paul II’s call to the youth of the world to take an active role in the pro-life movement in order to establish a Culture of Life. An integral part of Crossroads is their yearly pro-life pilgrimages across the United States. Each summer, young adults walk on three simultaneous pro-life walks across America from Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles to Washington, D.C.. Walking almost 10,000 miles and through 36 states, these young people hope to convert the hearts and minds of others – at the grass-roots level – by witnessing to the dig-nity and sanctity of all human life, from the moment of conception to natural death. During their pilgrimages across the United States, Australia, and Canada, they always strive to join efforts, prayers and small sacrifices with the sufferings of Christ – crucified for the sake of all, born and unborn. They also speak to parish groups to encourage pro-life activism in their communities. During the walk, they stop at local abortion clinics along the route to participate in prayerful, peaceful protests and side-walk counseling. Crossroads recognizes the need to spread the message of life and love through the means that the modern world pro-vides. They actively participate in radio, television and newspaper interviews with the mainstream media as well as reli-gious media outlets. Each young adult who takes on the challenge of walking across our country with Crossroads is an integral part of the ministry.
