Year 1 home learning W/C 8th June 2020
English This week we are following the Oak academy unit of work on Information texts titled
‘Terrifying T-Rex’.
There are 5 exciting lessons to support English learning this week. Please could all
children complete lessons 1-3 (see pictures below) at home. Lessons 4 and 5 provide
opportunity for writing their own dinosaur fact file. As some children continue to
receive some school based learning, and others are at home all week, these last two
lessons are optional according to circumstance.
Follow Oak National Academy found at https://www.thenational.academy/
Click Online Classroom then select subject / Year 1. Select English,

There are activities on continents and Africa to
complete in this unit.
You may also like to watch Andy’s Safari
Adventure on CBeebies which has programmes
about meercats, chimps, lions and giraffes.
How many African countries can you remember?
Can you find and colour Africa on the world map?
Art The story Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne, set in an African Village is based around
village girl’s journey to her friends’ village, carrying 7 fruits in her basket. At school we
will be drawing the fruits that went into Handa’s basket and thinking about which types
of fruit are grown in Africa and the UK. At home the children might like to draw the
fruits you have in your own fruit baskets and see if you can find out which country they
came from and where that place is on Google Earth. https://www.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/earth/
