วนเวลาไดผานไปอยางรวดเรวสาหรบผทกาลงมความสขและสนกกบชวตและงานของตนเอง ในทางตรงกนขามวนเวลาชางผานไปอยางเชองชาสาหรบผทไมมความสขกบงานและชวตของตนเอง สาหรบผมแลวป 2554 ทผานมาเปนปทผมเหนดเหนอยทสด แตกมความสขทสด เพราะไดทาในสงตนเองชอบและอยากทา นนกคองานดานโรตารและงานดานวชาการอยางอสระ โดยไมตองอยใตการบงคบบญชาของใคร หรอพดอยางใหเขาใจงายๆกคอไมมเจานายนนเอง

ในชวงระยะทผานมา ไมวาจะเปนการเยยมสโมสรหรอในการบรรยายของผม ผมมกจะยกตวอยางสโมสรหลายๆสโมสรทเปนแบบอยางในการบรหารสโมสรใหประสบความสาเรจอยเสมอ ทงน เพอเปนตนแบบแกสโมสรอนทจะไดยดถอเปนแนวทางปฏบต แตอยางไรกตามผมคดวาในชวงระยะของการดารงตาแหนงผวาการภาคของผมน ผมจะตองทาอะไรท(ผมคดวา)ดขนกวาเดมทผมเคยไดทาไว ซงกคอการยกยองชมเชยโรแทเรยนทเปนแบบอยางทดแกมวลมตรโรแทเรยนอน พดงายๆวาเปนโรแทเรยนตนแบบ(Role Model Rotarian)หรอโรแทเรยนในดวงใจนนเอง

ฉะนน ผมจงขอใหมวลมตรโรแทเรยนทกทานในภาค 3360 ของเราไดเสนอชอโรแทเรยนในดวงใจของทานเพอเปนโรแทเรยนตนแบบ โดยไมจากดจานวน ไมจากดระยะเวลาของการเปนโรแทเรยน ขอเพยงวาชอของโรแทเรยนทานนนเมอผมกลาวออกไปแลวจะไมมเสยง “ย”ตามมา และเหมาะสมทจะเปนโรแทเรยนตนแบบแกโรแทเรยนทวๆไป โดยเฉพาะอยางยงการอทศตนหรอการทมเทใหแกวงการโรตารเรา

การยกยองชมเชยโรแทเรยนนน เปนวถทางหนงของการใหกาลงใจโรแทเรยน มใชการยกยอปอปนทเกนความจรงซงไมเกดประโยชนอนใด และผดแนวทางของบททดสอบสแนวทาง(Four-Way Test)อกดวย และการเสนอชอโรแทเรยนตนแบบหรอโรแทเรยนในดวงใจทวานของทาน กเปนสวนหนงททานจะไดมสวนรวมในการชวยพฒนาวงการโรตารเรานนเอง

Happy New Year 2012, Dearest Rotarians!

Time has passed very quickly and successfully for some of us who have been fortunate, but slowly for those who have been made miserable due to adversity, such as the flooding. The year 2011 was an exceptional year for me, the most exhausting but happiest year of my life. I have been honored to be able to carry out our Rotary mission, and I have enjoyed the freedom of being able to do some academic writing without a boss!

During my last official club visits, I have often mentioned some clubs which have been outstanding in managing their affairs efficiently and successfully. They are role models setting a benchmark for other clubs to achieve. Now, during my remaining time as governor, I wish to go beyond acknowledging outstanding clubs to honoring and praising Rotarians, devoted Rotarians, who are role models for others.

Accordingly, I would like you, D3360 Rotarians, to nominate fellow members who have been role models for others. There is no limitation to the number who may be nominated nor should consideration given to how long nominees have been Rotarians. I wish to honor the most devoted Rotarians in our district.

Honoring the most devoted Rotarians is a way of expressing our appreciation. Our intention is not to overly flatter these individuals, nor does it go against the Four-Way Test. By nominating dedicated Rotarians as role models, you are also participating in the future development of Rotary clubs.

ในโรตาร เรามคตพจนของเราเองอยแลว ถาหากยงไมม ผมอยากจะขอใชคากลาวสองบรรทดดงกลาวขางตนแทน พอลแฮรส เคยเขยนไววา พลงความพยายามทรวมมอกนนนไมมขอบเขต เมอเราทางานดวยกนแลว สงทเปนไปไมไดกจะเปนไปได

ผมเคยคดเรองนเมอไดอานบทความหนงในนตยสาร New England Journal of Medicine ซงเปนนตยสารการแพทยชนนาของสหรฐ ชอเรอง “ปดเกมโปลโอ” ซงสรปกลยทธสาหรบยคหลงโปลโอ รวมถงการบรหารความเสยง หลงกวาดลางโปลโอหมดสนแลว

หากเปนเมอสามสบปกอน บทความเชนนคงไมไดลงพมพแนนอน แตวนนนคอ บทพสจนพลงความมงมนอทศตนอยางยงยนและความพยายามรวมกน ทาใหสงทเปนไปไมได กลบเปนสงทเปนไปไดอยางแทจรง โลกหลงยคโปลโอทเคยเปนความฝนเฟองในอดต จะกลบกลายเปนจรงในไมชาน

My dear brothers and sisters in Rotary,

At Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington,

D.C., stands a memorial to the Seabees, formally known as the U.S. Naval Construction Force. An

inscription reads, “With willing hearts and skillful hands, the difficult we do at once; the impossible

takes a bit longer.”

In Rotary, we already have our own mottoes. If we didn’t, I might be given to nominate those two lines.

The power of combined effort, as Paul Harris once wrote, knows no limitation. When we work together,

the impossible becomes possible.

I thought of this when I read, a few months ago, an article in the New England Journal of Medicine, the

premier medical journal in the United States. Titled “The Polio Endgame,” it outlined a strategy for a

post-polio era, including managing post-eradication

risks.

Thirty years ago, such an article could never have

been published. Today, it is a testament to the power of dedication, of persistence, and of

combined effort. The impossible has, indeed, become possible. A post-polio world, once the stuff

of dreams, will soon be here.

My friends, the day that polio will be eradicated is close at hand. We have to be ready for it with a

powerful Rotary – a Rotary of enthusiasm and confidence, of bold vision and clear ambitions. It is

time for us to prepare by taking an honest look at

our clubs. Are our projects meaningful, sustainable, and relevant? Are our meetings productive and

enjoyable? Are our clubs welcoming to new members, and are our schedules and events friendly

to young families? And once people join us, do we welcome them properly, involve them enough? Do

we make them a part of the family of Rotary quickly

enough?

The figures tell us that while enough new individuals

join Rotary every year and everywhere, too many exit Rotary, on an ongoing basis. What unfulfilled

hope do they leave with? What expectations are we

not meeting? Can we do more and better?

Now is the time to focus our energies on our clubs,

and on the way people see them. It is time to show our communities that the Rotary of today is not the

Rotary of their preconceptions. Rotary is a way to connect, to do more, to be more – it is a way to

take our idealism and our vision, and turn them into

reality.

Areas of focus are the causes that drive Rotary

We are now halfway through the pilot of our Future Vision Plan, and as I look to the future I think the most significant change will be the adoption of the six areas of focus – and not just for our Foundation. I recently heard RI Director Stuart Heal, the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, say that our areas of focus fit very comfortably into our RI Strategic Plan.

Today’s generation supports causes rather than organizations, and so we in Rotary should be able to clearly identify the causes that drive us. When somebody asks you what Rotary is, you do not have to fumble for words. Tell the person that we are an organization of service-minded individuals around the world who are working to make the world a better place with our efforts in water and sanitation, basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, disease prevention and treatment, economic and community development, and peace and conflict resolution. You can say that in 20 seconds!

You can see how this may bring new members to Rotary and increase the giving to our Foundation. If you approach corporations for a contribution, they are much more likely to respond if they know how their money will be spent, and that we will spend it wisely. We are building on a strong record of performance over a long period of time. Bill Gates has said as much on a number of occasions. He has shown his faith in us through his significant gifts for polio eradication.

While I am writing this from a Foundation perspective, the membership factor should not be overlooked. Plenty of organizations talk about issues, but Rotary is about action, not words.

เราไดมการประชม Rotary Institute ทบาหล ประเทศอนโดนเซยกนไปแลว ซงเราไดแบงปนความรเกยวกบโรตารและเรยนรจากปาฐกมากมาย รวมทงการประชมเชงปฏบตการ ปหนาจะมการประชม Institute โซนของพวกเราทเซลงงอร ประเทศมาเลเซย

Celebrate Rotary Awareness Month by training

members on Rotary history, programs, or how to raise awareness of your club’s project among your

community. Or, ask members to share a personal story or experience that they have had because of

Rotay. Every Rotarian has a Rotary story that can

be ducational and inspiring. The beginning of a new year is a good opportunity to renew

inspiration for the rest of the Rotary year.

There are so many things happened during the

first half of this year, flood that our district and our

Rotarians had suffered.

As a result of the inundation in the past 3 months,

the activities of RI district 3350 were affected by cancellation or delay. Many Rotary Clubs in the

flooded areas cancelled thei regular meeting. Even though there has been hardship for many

Rotarians, their spirit of service above self is intact;

many Rotarians continue their services of relief efforts for flood victims led by the chairperson

PDG. Suchada Ithijarukul. RI District 3350 in cooperation with the government, private sectors,

the navy, businessmen and the support from

district 3330, 3340 and 3360 jointly delivered life-saving bags, rice dried food, clean drinking water,

wter-purifiers, mobile toilets, mosquito nets, tents and ready-made food to urgently alleviate the

grievance of people affected.

Furthermore, The Rotary Founda�on has

establishedthe Rotary Thailand Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, which will support relief and

recovery projects in the affected areas. Rotary Clubs around the world have shown their concern

by contributing money in support of the Fund. All

Rotary Clubs in the affected areas should survey the needs of those communities and propose

projectsto District for urgent consideration. The reparation works such as for schools, toilets,

canteens, libraries, painting of school, seats,

desks, school equipment and Rotary water purifiers are recommended. We had Rotary Institute at Bali,

Indonesia and we had been well sharing of Rotary knowledge and learning from various speakers and

work shop and next year The Institute from our Zone will be held in Selangor, Malaysia.

การสรางมตรภาพในสโมสร

“มตรภาพ” คอหวใจของโรตาร โรแทเรยนทกคนตองเขาใจวาเรามาอยในโรตาร เพอตองการเพอน มตร รจกคนทศรทธาได

“มตรภาพ” มความหมายมากกวาความเปนเพอน มความหมายถงความรสกอาทรเวลาทกข ยนดเวลาสข เชอใจและศรทธา เวลามภารกจ มตรทเปนโรแทเรยนมกเปนคนทเราจะสนทสนม และเชอใจไดทนททเรมรจกกน คนเหลานไดรบการเลอกสรรมาดแลว

อนดบแรก สมาชกทกคนตองเขาใจวาเรามาเปนสมาชกเพอแสวงหา และ เสรมสรางมตรภาพ กจกรรมทกอยางทจะกระทาในสโมสร กควรจะไดคานงถงมตรภาพเปนหลก ถาเราใชบททดสอบสแนวทาง ตรวจสอบพฤตกรรมของเราตลอดเวลา การกระทาทไมสรางมตร หรอทาลายมตรจะไมคอยเกดขน ดงนนเมอจะพด จะกระทาอะไร กถามตวเองวา

(1) เปนความจรงหรอเปลา (2) เปนธรรมตอทกฝายทเกยวของไหม (3) จะนามาซงความปรารถนาดและมตรภาพ

หรอไม (4) จะเปนประโยชนตอทกฝายไหม

อนดบทสอง คณะกรรมการมตรภาพตองพยายามจดกจกรรมทเสรมสรางความคนเคยในหมสมาชก โดยเฉพาะระหวางสมาชกใหมกบเกา กลมอายนอยกบอายมาก เชน

-จดใหสมาชกหมนเวยนกนนง ไมซากบกลมเดมเปนประจา

-ขอใหคณะกรรมการตางๆ ตงสมาชกใหมเปนกรรมการหรอผสมผสานระหวางคนหนมกบคนสงอาย ใหมและเกา

-จดกจกรรมมตรภาพ เชน การไปทศนศกษา การจดกจกรรมกฬา ดนตร วนครอบครว โดยเนนการจดเฉพาะแวดวงสมาชก และครอบครว โดยใหทกคนไดมสวนรวมมากทสด

-การใหความสาคญกบโอกาสพเศษ เชน การอวยพรวนเกด วนครบรอบ วนแตงงาน

-การแสดงความยนดเมอเพอนมความสข หรอบรรลความสาเรจ และไปเยยมเมอเจบ ไขไดปวยหรอมทกข

Fellowship Building within the Club

Fellowship is at the heart of Rotary. Friendship is the result and the basis for our being in Rotary.

Fellowship means more than just becoming friends. We share our feelings, such as sympathy for others experiencing hardship or congratulations for others for their successes. Friends are reliable and credible people whom we can trust with responsibilities.

First, we all must understand that we are in Rotary to make and maintain friendships as an opportunity for service so it is important to keep fellowship first and foremost as we carry out our activities. We are encouraged to adopt the principles of the Four-way Test which suggest that before we think, say, or do anything, the following questions should be asked:

1. Is it the TRUTH ? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned ? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER

FRIENDSHIPS ? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned

?

Second, the club’s fellowship committee should promote activities that will strengthen acquaintances among members, between old timers and newcomers, younger and older. Recommended activities include:

o Rotating seating arrangements to ensure that members get to know one another.

o Encouraging committee chairs to include new members on their committees.

o Organizing fellowship programs, such as sports and music events as well as family days that involve club members and family members.

o Celebrating members’ important days, such as sending birthday and anniversary cards.

o Observing important occasions, such as members' promotions and achievements, and visiting members when they are in the hospital.

Third, club committees and individual members can also increase good fellowship by:

o Organizing memorable and dignified induction ceremonies for new members.

o Initiating friendships with new and prospective members.

o Respecting each other. o Considering members' capabilities and

professional expertise in making club assignments.

o Recognizing individual member skills and interests in assigning club tasks

Fourth, eliminate the causes of ill feeling, by, for example:

o Avoiding abusive and annoying language which might cause conflict.

o Avoiding the formation of self-interested groups. Members should pay attention to what benefits the whole club.

o Discouraging the influence of politics and those who make friendships to advance their own political agendas.

Rotary clubs must avoid following specific political and business interests. Implementing the Four-Way Test principles in making club decisions and resolutions will sustain good fellowship. BANGKOK RI CONVENTION 2012 AMBASSADOR SEARCH

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Happy New Year 2012! I wish you all happiness and all your hopes fulfilled. And may your club’s projects

be successful. The 2012 Bangkok Rotary Convention

fast approaches so the first press conference will be held in early February by District 3350. The

information will be given by Host Organizing Committees (HOC) which comprises Rotary Thailand,

the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau

(TCEB), IMPACT, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

As a member of the HOC Public Relations and Advertising Sub-committee, I have been assigned the

task of organizing the 2012 Bangkok RI Convention "Ambassadors." The Ambassadors will be one girl and

one boy from each Rotary district. The Ambassadors

will represent Rotary and participate in PR activities from May 5-7th, perhaps May 5-9th.

The Ambassadors will have to attend training sessions in Bangkok before and during the convention. There is

no HOC travel and accommodation budget, but I am

looking for a sponsor.

The selection of the Ambassadors will be made by the

PR committee and District Governor Chamnan Chanruang. The requirements for becoming an

Ambassador:

1. Boy or girl aged 8-10 years old. (Both should be the same height.)

2. Thai nationality. Should be from a Thai Rotarian family or a relative

3. Good character. friendly, smiling face. 4. Smart and confident with good manners

5. Good speaking voice with clear Thai and

English

This is probably the only opportunity for young people

to represent Thailand and be part of the historic RI

Bangkok RI Convention.

Eight years ago, our club’s president-elect,

Arnold Klinsky, sat down with a group of us to plan his strategy for a successful year. He started by asking each of us why we’d joined the club.

Tim O’Neil, a member since 1999, said, “I joined for all the wrong reasons, and I stayed for the right reasons.” He explained that he’d become a member of the Rotary Club of Rochester, N.Y., USA, to get business contacts but had nearly quit after his first year. Then he became involved in the service aspects of the club, particularly our Sunshine Campus, which serves children with disabilities. By the time I met him, he was a club vice president.

At the time of our meeting with Arnold, I was the editor of a monthly business magazine. The Rotarian who’d brought me to my first meeting had told me that the editors, owners, or publishers of all the local media were members of the club and that I should consider joining too, “for the exposure.”

So I did – and ended up staying for very different reasons.

Over the years, I’ve served on membership and strategic planning committees. One fact that became clear in all these groups was that we were facing a critical problem with retaining members and attracting new, younger people.

During one strategic planning meeting, Peter Formicola, who has since passed away, remarked that a speaker he’d heard at the 2005 RI

Convention in Chicago had talked about the business roots of Rotary. This prompted some lively discussions among us. Is there a place for business interests within an organization that prizes Service Above Self?

The predominant feeling among our members had always been that benefits to one’s business would accrue after years of fellowship and service. Was that compelling enough to attract the younger members of the professional community? Our informal research was saying no. These men and women were focused on their work, on their families, and on volunteering in areas important to them.

Still, we had a great calling card. As a large city club, we had community and business leaders among our members. Speakers from the government and private sectors addressed topics of great interest and sometimes critical importance, and were often covered by the press. But we couldn’t deny the demographics and surveys. If our club was to move forward, we’d have to find a way to bring in new and younger members.

None of us liked the idea of people “working the room,” handing out business cards and using Rotary as a mere platform to do business. Was there an ethical way to integrate the business lives of our members without taking away from the mission of Rotary?

The Rochester club, founded in 1912, prides itself on community service. We support a camp that serves 2,200 people with disabilities every summer on a completely accessible campus. We have adopted the Roberto Clemente elementary school, and you can find Rochester Rotarians there, working with inner-city children, every school day.

We know the meaning of Service Above Self; we believe in it. So how could we reconcile altruism with business interests?

During his year as our club president in 2008-09, Sam Merlo created a task force, later named the business-to-business committee, that he charged with promoting the business and professional lives of our members. It was a small group of people, most of whom had been members for decades. One member, Jim Isaac, is a past president with a strong history of promoting service in the club. Now retired as head of his family business, he made it clear that this initiative had his full support; in fact, he felt it was a must if our club was to grow and prosper. After all, it’s hard to do good unless you do well.

We got off to a wobbly start, but after two years,

our committee has defined itself. We have adopted the phrase, “It’s great to do business with a Rotarian!” and we’ve launched a variety of new programs:

Business directory. This registry is part of our website and is open to the public (unlike our membership directory, which is private and password protected). All members have a profile and can provide keywords to help others find their products and services. It allows for a dynamic search that picks up relevant words in the websites or enhanced listings for each member. Sponsors, who underwrite the technology costs, have banner ads that cycle with each click. The registry has proved to be an excellent way to find trusted resources and to promote our businesses.

Rotary connections. Every other week at our regular lunch meeting, our president introduces a member with the words, “It’s great to do business with a Rotarian.” This member has five minutes at the podium to talk about his or her company. Often, these members leave materials or promotional items from their businesses on the lunch tables. One member who sells office products, including coffee and tea, left samples. Another handed out computer memory sticks with her company name. Our weekly Spoke36 newsletter features a synopsis of each presentation with a photograph and contact information for the speaker.

Networking events. At these early evening get-togethers, members can have a drink, talk with other Rotarians, and learn about their companies. These are held at a Rotarian’s place of business, the club office, or a restaurant. There may be a presentation or panel discussion, but there is always time to simply network. We are also considering a speed-networking event as a fun way to mix things up.

“Ask the Expert.” This column, written by a Rotarian, appears periodically in Spoke. Each one features “five things you should know” about a Rotarian’s area of expertise. It helps our members showcase their skills and share useful information.

B2B Expo. In place of one of our regular lunch meetings, we held our second trade show at the Rochester convention center this spring. It was limited to Rotarians’ businesses, with registration capped at 25 companies to allow Rotarians and their guests time to visit all the booths. We served a “grazing-style” lunch so attendees could keep moving. One member donated an LCD TV to be raffled off.

Rotary After Hours. A Rotarian hosts a get-together at his or her place of business after work, offering a tour of the facility and refreshments. Members build fellowship and business relationships while learning more about a fellow Rotarian’s work.

To these successful initiatives, we hope to add a business mentorship program as well as a Craigslist-style website that would complement our business directory and LinkedIn group.

We encourage our members to bring guests to all our events to promote the Rotary Club of Rochester and to let people know that, along with our community service work, we are also helping members expand their businesses.

Many companies are facing economic challenges lately, which makes our promotion of mutual business opportunities especially important. Members whose businesses are thriving are in the best position to contribute to club projects.

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

The long weekend of New Year celebrations is now past, and this Rotary year is half over. Each club is working on several service projects planned to make the club an effective one following the guidance of Rotary International. Projects include maintaining and increasing membership, service to meet the true needs of the community, and contributions to and participation in Rotary International’s programs. Another important task is to promote the public image of being Rotarians which benefits your club and Rotary International as well.

I am always proud if someone introduces me to his friends also letting them know that I am a Rotarian because, generally, Rotarians are people of high business or professional standing, with a sense of giving, not greedy, and with the knowledge, resources and ability to work effectively in special activities. I like to reply to those who praise me after receiving some assistance by saying “I’m not smart, but my friend is. I am not rich, but my friend is. I don’t have the knowledge, but my friend does. I can’t help you, but my friend can."

Dear fellow Rotarians, have you helped anybody this year, perhaps, for example, given them some travel information recommending hotels, restaurants, places to visit or garages for those having trouble with their cars? All I want to say is that if you have already helped someone, then you already have gotten a friend.

โดยผมจะขอเลาใหทานฟงถงแนวทาง การบาเพญประโยชนของโรแทเรยน ในสโมสร และภาค โดยการสนบสนนจากมลนธโรตารของโรตารสากลดงตอไปน

การบาเพญประโยชนตอชมชนเปนพนธกจหลกของโรแทเรยนทกคน มลนธโรตารมหนาทในการสนบสนนโรแทเรยนในการบาเพญประโยชน เพอเปนทศทางเดยวกน มลนธโรตารจงกาหนดโปรแกรมขน ซงเปนโปรแกรมทมาจากพนธกจหลกของโรตาร ทจะชวยใหโลกนนาอยขน การสนบสนนของมลนธโรตาร โดยนาเงนบรจาคของโรแทเรยนทวโลกทกๆ ป ในระบบปนสวน (Share System) มาดาเนนงาน

ในการทาโครงการบาเพญประโยชนผานโปรแกรมของมลนธโรตาร มอย 3 องคประกอบสาคญคอ

1. มโครงการ ตามโปรแกรมของมลนธโรตาร คอ 1.1 โครงการสนตภาพ และ ขจดความขดแยง 1.2 โครงการปองกนโรค และ รกษาโรค 1.3 โครงการนา และ สขาภบาล 1.4 โครงการสขภาพแม และ เดกทารก 1.5 โครงการ อาน ออก เขยนได และการเรยนรขน พนฐาน 1.6 โครงการดานเศรษฐกจ และ พฒนาชมชน

2. มเงน (งบประมาณ) ในการทาโครงการ บาเพญประโยชนผานโปรแกรมของมลนธโรตาร งบประมาณ (เงน) ทดาเนนโครงการมาจาก 3 สวน 2.1 เงนสด (จากการบรจาคของสมาชกและสโมสร) 2.2 DDF (50% ของเงนบรจาคของสมาชกในสโมสร บรจาคใหกองทนประจาป (APF) เมอ 3 ปกอน) 2.3 เงนสมทบ (Matching) จากมลนธโรตาร (กองทน World Fund)

ประเดนสาคญ แตละโครงการกองทนสนบสนนระดบโลก (Global Grants) ตองไมนอยกวา U$30,000 เงนสดทบรจาคเพอทาโครงการ (Restricted Fund) ถาบรจาคผานมลนธโรตาร U$1,000 สามารถขอการยกยองเปน PHF ได

เงนสดทบรจาคเพอทาโครงการขอสมทบจาก กองทนโลก World Fund มลนธโรตารไดเพยง 50% ประเดนสาคญ ถาสโมสรม DDF มากอยแลว กไมควรใชเงนสด

Dear Club Presidents and Fellow Rotarians,

Now, we are in the first month of the year 2012. In this letter I will inform you how The Rotary Foundation can foster both local and international service. The topic, previously presented at the Joint District Conference in Chiang Rai in December 2011, will be elaborated upon again here.

Community Service is the core mission of Rotarians. The Rotary Foundation (TRF) will finance Rotary service projects. In order to coordinate the service initiatives of Rotarians around the world, TRF designates the types of programs for which the funds can be used.

There are three components crucial in receiving financing for projects from TRF.

First of all, TRF focuses support for large international projects in the following six areas:

1. Peace and conflict prevention/resolution

2. Disease prevention and treatment

3. Water and sanitation

4. Maternal and child health

5. Basic education and literacy

6. Economic and community development

Secondly, a qualified budget will be needed for approval of funds from TRF. The budget consists of:

1. Cash contributions to Rotary International from Rotarians and their clubs

2. Up to fifty percent of Rotary clubs' District

Designated Fund (DDF)

3. The minimum award amount from the World Fund, regardless of the type of project activity, is US$ 30,000 for 100% match of DDF or US$ 15,000 for 50%

match of the cash contribution

4) เปดบาน เลยงดตอนรบมตร ตางสโมสร ตางภาค ตางประเทศ ตามสมควรดวยไมตรจตแบบไทยๆ เพอสรางความสนทสนม

5) เปดกาย เปดโอกาสใหตนเองไดพฒนาโดยทางานใหระดบสโมสร ภาค เพอเพมความรอบร เรองโรตาร เพมวสยทศน เพมศกยภาพใหตนเอง และ ชวยเพมมตร

6) เปดเทคโนโลยเรยนรการสอสาร โดย Internet Email เพราะปจจบน การสอสารของโรตารสวนใหญเปน ระบบ Onlin ทงสน

Finally, Global Grants must be sponsored by two Rotary clubs: a host club in the country where the activity takes place and a club outside the country. The two Rotary clubs

must be under the Future Vision Pilot Plan.

Here are ways to find international partners:

1. Joining Rotary social events within and

outside a district (domestic/international).

2. Clearly designating Rotary club meeting locations.

3. Making friends with Rotarians from the same or different districts during Rotary district conferences or international

conventions.

4. Accommodating Rotarians from different districts or abroad.

5. Volunteering for positions at the district level to network and to broaden one’s

vision.

6. Utilizing online and social networking strategies.

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

We have begun 2012 which will be a truly remarkable year for all Thai Rotarians. The reason is that the 2012 RI Convention will be held in Bangkok beginning 6 May. Very soon we expect to welcome Rotarians from around the world arriving to participate in this event.

Before the official opening of the convention on the 6th, 4-5 May will be devoted to youth programs. First, a Rotaract Preconvention Meeting will be held at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok. Rotarians who register for the Bangkok Convention are welcome to participate in the meeting to express their ideas and relate their experiences with Rotarians from different areas. This special occasion will promote the strength and sustainability of Rotaract. In addition, it will enhance creativity, service and friendship in Thailand. There will be a Youth Exchange Officers Preconvention Meeting which allows Rotarians who work in the Youth Exchange Program to meet and collaborate further.

I hope the special meetings will be a good opportunity to learn more and inspire Rotarians who already devote themselves to youth programs, and I encourage those who decide to start a youth program in their clubs to join in the meeting. Having a youth service program will create a glorious future for our youth.

2012 Bangkok RI Convention May 6-9, 2012

We only have three months to go before the RI Convention we are hosting in Bangkok will take place on 6-9 May 2012. Five thousand Thai Rotarian registrants will entitle each and every one of us to save a further 25% of the registration fee.

The registration fee is as following :

- Before December 2011: US$160 pax (A total number of 5000 Thai registrants entitles us to a US$40/person rebate)

- Between December 1, 2011 - February 29, 2012: the rate is US$195 pax.

- From March 1, 2012 onward: the full rate of US$245 pax applies.

Peace Through Service' is 2012-13 RI theme

Tanaka unveiled the RI theme during the opening plenary session of the 2012 International Assembly, a training event for incoming Rotary district governors.

"Peace, in all of the ways that we can understand it, is a real goal and a realistic goal for Rotary," he said. "Peace is not something that can only be achieved through agreements, by governments, or through heroic struggles. It is something that we can find and that we can achieve, every day and in many simple ways."

Peace has different meanings for different people, Tanaka said.

"No definition is right, and no definition is wrong," he said. "However we use the word, this is what peace means for us.

"No matter how we use, or understand the word, Rotary can help us to achieve it," he added.

Tanaka, a businessman from the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, shared how becoming a Rotarian broadened his understanding of the world. After joining the Rotary Club of Yashio, in 1975, he said, he began to realize that his life's purpose was not to make more money, but to be useful to other people.

He noted that the Japanese tradition of putting the needs of society above the needs of the individual helped his country rebuild after the tsunami and earthquake in March.

"This is a lesson that I think the whole world can learn from, in a positive way. When we see the needs of others as more important than our own needs -- when we focus our energies on a shared goal that is for the good of all -- this changes everything," he said. "It changes our priorities in a completely fundamental way. And it changes how we understand the idea of peace."

Tanaka will ask Rotarians to focus their energy on supporting the three priorities of the RI Strategic Plan , he said. He added that he will ask the incoming leaders to promote three Rotary peace forums, to be held in Hiroshima, Japan; Berlin; and Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.

“In Rotary, our business is not profit. Our business is peace,” he said. “Our reward is not financial, but the happiness and satisfaction of seeing a better, more peaceful world, one that we have achieved through our own efforts.”

US$200 Challenge Fund Fulfilled

Rotary clubs worldwide meet US$200 million fundraising challenge for polio eradication

Despite a stagnant global economy, Rotary clubs around the world have succeeded in raising more than US$200 million in new funding for polio eradication.

The fundraising milestone, announced today at Rotary’s annual International Assembly in San Diego, was reached in response to a $355 million challenge grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. All funds have been earmarked to support polio immunization activities in countries where this vaccine-preventable disease continues to paralyze children.

“We’ll celebrate this milestone, but it doesn’t mean that we’ll stop raising money or spreading the word about polio eradication,” Rotary Foundation Trustee John F. Germ told the annual conference of Rotary leaders. “We can’t stop until our entire world is certified as polio free.”

“In recognition of Rotary’s great work, and to inspire Rotarians in the future, the [Gates] foundation is committing an additional $50 million to extend our partnership,” said Jeff Raikes, chief executive officer of the Gates Foundation. “Rotary started the global fight against polio, and continues to set the tone for private fundraising, grassroots engagement and maintaining polio at the top of the agenda with key policy makers.”

about 350,000 infections annually to fewer than 650 cases reported so far for 2011. The wild poliovirus now remains endemic – meaning its transmission has never been stopped – in only four countries: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan. However, India on January 13 marked a full calendar year without a case, paving the way for its removal from the endemic list.

But other countries also remain at risk for polio cases imported from the endemic countries. In Africa in 2011, Chad and the Democratic Republic of the Congo had significant outbreaks. Also in 2011, a small cluster of polio cases in China, which had been polio-free for a decade, was attributable to a virus from Pakistan.

Rotary members not only reached into their own pockets to support the Gates challenge,but engaged their communities in a variety of creative fundraising projects, such as a fashion show in California that raised $52,000; benefit film screenings in New Zealand and Australia that netted $54,000; and a pledge-supported hike through Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, that brought in $38,000. Many events were planned around October 24, widely observed as World Polio Day.

To date, Rotary club members worldwide have contributed more than $1 billion toward the eradication of polio, a cause Rotary took on in 1985. In 1988, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention joined Rotary as spearheading partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. More recently, the Gates Foundation has become a major supporter. In 2007, the Gates Foundation gave Rotary a $100 million challenge grant for polio eradication, increasing it to $355 million in 2009. Rotary agreed to raise $200 million in matching funds by June 30, 2012.

Reaching children with the oral polio vaccine in the disease’s remaining strongholds is labor and resource -intensive due to a host of challenges, including poor infrastructure, geographical isolation, armed conflict and cultural misunderstanding about the eradication campaign.

The National Polio Immunization Campaign for 2011 aims cross country vaccination for targeted Thai as well as foreign children. The later group is of higher risk as often times the children cross the borders with inefficient screening process. Contributions to the Annual Fund through the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs.

From digging water wells for villages in Africa to teaching basic literacy skills to children in Latin America, during any given moment, thousands of Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise. All contributions to the Annual Fund are spent wisely on quality Rotary projects.

Resolution, District 3360

This Conference resolves:

1. To record its appreciation to the President of

Rotary International Kalyan Banerjee and Rotary Ann Binota for appointing PDG Rajendra Doshi

and Rotary Ann Dipti Doshi to represent him and his Rotary Ann Binota to this Conference; and

express its appreciation to PDG Rajendra Doshi for his addresses and warm friendship given to

the participants of this conference.

2. To express its appreciation to Mr.Surachai Linthong, Deputy Provincial Governor of Chiang

Rai for his presence and welcome speech at the Governor’s Banquet.

3. To express its thanks and appreciation to PP

Vanit Yothavut, Chairman of Joint District Conference Organization Committee for making

this conference a memorable one full of friendship among members, spouses and Rotary

clubs in the district.

4. To express our thanks to Past Rotary

International President Bhichai Rattakul (2002-

03) for his informative and valuable address on “Peace and Conflict Resolution”.

ภารกจของปโรตารไดผานมากวาครงป ภารกจทเหลอสาหรบปนเปนภารกจทยงใหญและทาทายสาหรบโรแทเรยนในประเทศไทยทกคน กบการทเราจะไดเปนเจาภาพการประชมใหญของโรตารสากล ระหวางวนท 6-9 พฤษภาคม 2555 น โรแทเรยนหลายทานรวมทงดฉนดวยรอคอยทจะมโอกาสไดเขาประชมใหญของโรตารเปนครงแรก ขณะเดยวกนโรแทเรยนทเปนคณะกรรมการจดงานตางเตรยมการและทมเทใหกบการทางานในครงนเปนอยางมาก

ขอเปนกาลงใจใหกบโรแทเรยนทกทานและทกสโมสร ในการดาเนนกจกรรมตามแผนงานในครงปหลง ซงเปนตนศกราชใหมดวยคะ

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

First of all, let me wish all readers a happy new year. I hope this is not too late even though a month has nearly passed and celebrations have started to fade away. Nevertheless, we are still in the beginning stage of fulfilling the year’s annual plan measured quarterly or monthly depending upon how each club has decided to gauge progress toward its goals. All of us must be careful in this year to avoid recurrence of the bad experience we had last year when we suffered both directly and indirectly from the adverse effects of natural disasters.

We have passed the first half of Rotary year during which half of the plan should have been accomplished. Another half year challenges us. We will have a very important task to undertake in the second half of the Rotary year when on 6-9 May, 2012, the Rotary International Convention will take place in Thailand with all of us as the hosts. Most Rotarians, including myself, will be attending this international Rotary event for the first time whereas many have the honor to be on the organizing team.

May all club officers and boards of directors be encouraged and receive moral support to carry out the activities you have planned to meet the annual goals you have planned. That’s my wish for the new year.
