“#2 Source to Knowing God’s Will: Read His Word” Sermon NotesPart 2, “Knowing God’s Will” Message Series

I. God’s Will Is Communicated Through His Word

“‘I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.’” (Psalm 40:8)

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin [miss the mark] against you.” (Psalm 119:11)

1. The Bible Has Supernatural Inspiration

“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20–21)

2. The Bible Has Supernatural Empowerment “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17)

II. God’s Will Cannot Contradict His Word

“‘I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Ever since the time of your forefathers you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them…’” (Malachi 3:6–7) “‘Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.’” (Matthew 5:17)

III. God’s Will Is Confirmed By His Ways

“‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts … so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace…’” (Is. 55:9, 11–12)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)

To live in God’s will we must accept God’s Word as final authority.

God’s will is always found by walking in His ways.
