The Christmas Season ends with the Feast of the Baptism
of the Lord on Sunday, January 9 .th
This week's Gospel continues our Advent reflection on tperson and message of John the Baptist. Last week w
heard John speak about his relationship to the comiMessiah, Jesus. This week, we hear Jesus' message to Joh
the Baptist, now in prison, about the signs of the kingdofound in Jesus' ministry and Jesus' assessment of Johnrole in the Kingdom of God.
In today's Gospel, John sends word to Jesus from prisoasking if Jesus is the Messiah for whom he has be
waiting. Jesus responds by pointing to the miracles that has worked and invites John and the other hearers to ma
their own determination. In his next breath, howeveJesus praises John for his role in preparing the way fJesus. Jesus says that all who work for the kingdom
God will be as great as John & even greater.Jesus' message to John about the signs of the kingdobeing performed recalls the salvation described by tprophet Isaiah. This passage is a reminder that t
beginning of salvation is already mysteriously presentus, but also yet to be fulfilled. Salvation is already in omidst as manifest in the miraculous deeds of Jesus and
the Church. But salvation is also to be fulfilled in tcoming reign of God. Even as we observe our wortoday, we can find glimpses of God's work among u
Even more, we help to prepare the way for God's kingdo
by our words and our deeds. This message is indeedcause for rejoicing.

Letter from
Most Reverend Gary M. Gordon,
Bishop of Whitehorse, Yukon
Dear Fr. Nino,
It was a grace and privilege to preside and preach at the
Sunday Masses on the feast of Christ the King. The
welcome and hospitality you and the parish showed to me
during my stay in Toronto was a special Christmas
present, Thank you.
For me it was a special joy to share with the parish the
great work of Catholic Missions in Canada. The
experience of being in Our Lady of Sorrows parish and the
Toronto Archdiocese once again, confirmed in my heart
the beauty of our One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Faith.
We are Family!!
May your Advent preparation and prayer for the feast of Christ’s birth be a time of renewed grace, peace and love
from our God, made visible in Christ Jesus.
In Communion,
Most Reverend Gary M. Gordon
