Presentation Day 7 December at 12 noon Monday week we are pleased to be able to present our new format K-6 Assembly. During that assembly, there will be a number of special awards presented to Year 6 as well as 3 class awards for students in K-6. Please see the awards policy later in this newsletter. Principal’s News P&C Christmas Night 27/11/15 5.30-7.30 We had word today that Santa is heading our way Friday night. We are looking forward to you joining us to celebrate another successful year at Pleasant Heights Public School Colour Run Our Colour Run total is climbing! The Heights Happenings WEEK 8

P&C End of Year Celebration We are busy planning a great night for our End of Year Celebration to be held Friday, 27th November 5.30-7.30pm. Please join us for a BBQ dinner, jumping castles, lucky dip, hairspray, nail and face painting and some fun stalls run by the year 6 students. More information is included in the note on the school website. To make the night a success we need parent volunteers! If you can spare some time on the night, please fill in the volunteer slip on the note. Our raffle will also be drawn on the night. Tickets were sent home last week and are $2 per ticket or $20 for a book of 12. 1st prize is a mini iPad, 2nd prize is a $100 Myer Gift Voucher, and 3rd prize is a $50 Lowes voucher. If you require extra/replacement tickets please enquire at the office.

Stage 2 @ Madame Tussauds

& Wildlife Sydney Zoo The stage 2 excursion to Madame Tussauds and Wildlife Sydney Zoo was awesome. Congratulations everyone on your excellent behaviour, Mrs Phipps and I had a great time with you all! A big thank you to Mrs Rigby, Julie Carter and Beth Bignell who also came on our excursion! Check out the collages of our excursion at the back of this newsletter and visit the PHPS website! So what did the students in 4S, 3P, 4B and 3C think? – “It was really fun and interesting, especially the really tall basketball player” – Lucy & Emma (4S) “I liked meeting all the celebrities, dressing up as a batsman and versing Sachin Tendulkar” – Jack K (4S) “My favourite part was the cricket section at Madame Tussauds” – Connor (3P) “My favourite part of the excursion was meeting the Koalas at Wildlife Sydney Zoo” – Charlotte (4S)

AWARDS POLICY

Rationale: The pursuit of academic, cultural, social and physical excellence is valued at Pleasant Heights Public School. Those who demonstrate outstanding achievement and/or commitment to achieving their potential in these domains should be rewarded as an encouragement to themselves and as a model for fellow students. Aim: At Pleasant Heights Public School, we believe in fostering a culture of continuous improvement by celebrating and sharing the successes of individual students. We motivate students to achieve learning goals through ongoing positive effort, as reflected in our School Values. The following strategies are a vital part of school practices:

Fortnightly recognition of academic, social and sporting successes at K-6 Assemblies.

Weekly communication of student successes via the school’s newsletter.

Student celebrations of success, as part of the Personal Best Award System.

End-of-year recognition of student success at the Annual Presentation Assembly

Consistent, specific verbal praise by teachers to individual students.

Displays of PBS Award winners’ photos & certificates of recognition in the school foyer.

Personal verbal & written communication of individual student success by teachers & the Principal to parents, carers & the wider community.

Classroom displays of exemplary student work. Timeline: The Annual Presentation Assembly will be held in the school hall at the end of Term 4 each year. The program, time and date will be set annually by the Principal and teaching staff. YEAR 6 FAREWELL

In conjunction with the Executive Staff, Year 6 teachers will plan the Year 6 Farewell to celebrate the Year 6 students’ end of primary schooling.

Graduation/Leavers Certificates will be presented at the Year 6 Farewell as a public recognition and acknowledgement. The Certificates will include a group photo of all Year 6 students

ANNUAL PRESENTATION ASSEMBLY AWARDS

Criteria: Year 6 students will be selected to receive a major award at the Annual Presentation Assembly by the Year 6 teachers in consultation with teaching colleagues and the Executive Staff. Teachers’ professional judgement is fully recognised in the selection processes and it is understood that teachers are in a position to account for decisions made. The awards will be based on the following criteria:

The student has been involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities or achieved a level of excellence in a particular area
