A Food Inspired Guide: 5 Ways to Spice up your Summer

When you study English in the USA, you get to experience the many different delicious

American cuisine options that the country has to offer. At schools like FLS, you can learn the

English language while also learning about American cuisine, which is delicious and intriguing

at the same time. There are many different dishes to choose from, many of which have been

around for hundreds of years. Hamburgers, potato salad, chicken pot pie, apple pie, and corn

bread are among the most popular American dishes. These dishes can be delicious as is, but there

are also some great ways to spice up this traditional cuisine, giving your summer meals an even

heftier kick.

Cheese

Cheese is a wonderful way to add a kick to almost any food. Try different variations including

mozzarella, sharp cheddar, feta, and Monterey Jack. Cheese comes in not only a large number of

varieties, but also in different shapes and sizes. Choose shredded or grated cheese to put on your

salads, or sliced cheese to add to your burgers. If you have a palate that loves spices, try a Pepper

Jack cheese to give your food a little flair.

Bacon

Bacon adds an incredible smoky flavor to many different types of foods. If you are tired of your

boring hamburgers, add a few slices of bacon and you will be satisfied. Bacon also goes well on

almost any type of salad, whether it is a green salad with all of the traditional fixings or a

traditional potato salad. Bacon also makes baked beans have a unique smoky taste that is sure to

be a hit at your next barbecue.

Rosemary

Basic American staples like cornbread can get a little boring if you eat them often. However, the

addition of Rosemary can make any cornbread come alive. Its incredible smell alone will entice

anyone’s taste buds, but the flavor will definitely seal the deal. Rosemary is also delicious on

chicken or any red meat. Before you have a barbecue, marinade your meat in lemon juice, olive

oil, rosemary and a little garlic and your barbecue will never be the same again.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper, especially in the powder form, can transform any dish from boring to exciting.

Since it is a very potent spice, caution should be used. A small amount should suffice for most

recipes. Cayenne pepper works great on almost any American dish, including deviled eggs, meat

dishes, and salads. It can be added before cooking, or even after just to spice things up a little.

Mint

Mint is another herb that can be used on almost any type of food in the summer. Try it on your

salads or even add it to a fruit salad, especially if it has watermelon it. The flavors meld very

well together, making a refreshing, yet enticing summer dish. Mint should be used fresh and

diced into small pieces to make it blend really well with your American food.

When you study English in the USA, you get to experience so much more than learning the

language. You get to experience the culture, including the food. American cuisine is unique, fun

and exciting. You need to taste it for yourself to truly enjoy all of its wonders.
