Wonderful news! I had the pleasure to sent home 13 Good News letters this week. Congratulations to those secondary students.

Our Cattle Team (Agriculture students) enjoyed two days at Beef Spectacular last week. Mr McLaurin praised the students who showed cattle, participated in the Rural Trader’s activities and slept under the stars for one night. The team were awarded two ribbons: 3rd in the heifer class for Beef Spectacular and 1st place for Sires Progeny Group. Young Leaders Day is being held in Sydney today. Our primary captains, Mackenzie Tremain and Lachlan Blatch are representing our school and will meet many other school captains from around the state. The organised activities and speakers should make it a great day. We appreciate Mrs Jo Blatch accompanying our captains to this event.

Student Progress Reports have been mailed to all families (Year 11 will receive a report this term). I encourage all parents to read the report and contact our school of‐fice to make an appointment with the teachers for an interview and discuss your child’s progress. Our next reporting time for the whole school will be at the end of Term 2 after examination results are deter‐mined. This may be too late for some par‐ents if there are concerns about your child’s learning and progress. Correction: The navy tracksuit that was in‐troduced in the school some years ago, has resulted in navy being a base colour.

For the safety and health of all students in our school, could parents please check their child’s hair for head lice?

Need a good book to read? Visit the Book Connection in Macquarie Street, Dubbo. The store has sponsored the Principal’s Reading Challenge in our school with a generous donation of books. Program

The Police Liaison Officer from Dubbo will be visiting our school for the day on 27th March. He will meet with all students and present workshops on the following: Stranger Danger, Child Protection, Car and Pedestrian safety, Police as a friend, Bike safety, Cyber safety, Cyber Bullying and Sexting. The Science and Engineering Challenge will be held for primary and secondary students. Six students in Years 5/6 have been selected to attend the event on Wednesday. Congratulations: Ariana Wakely, Ruben Hudson, Christopher Taylor, Taleah van Kemenade, Skye Saunderson, and Blake Cameron. Mr Blowes will accompany Year 10 stu‐dents to the activity on Friday. Permis‐sion notes and payment are now due. Mr Olsson does a great job organising a number of events on our school calendar. In the past couple of weeks he has organ‐ised boys’ soccer, lawn bowls triples, golf and water polo. As well as this he was elected at a WSSA meeting to manage and coach the CHS Western Boys Hockey team in 2012. The trials for this event are this week and a Western team will be selected to com‐pete at the state carnival. This is wonder‐ful recognition for Mr Olsson who not only has the qualifications to lead this team but was a representative player himself. In addition to organising sport and teach‐ing, Mr Olsson has found time to plan the Years 9/10 Sydney Excursion over three days. There is a meeting for parents this Thursday at 4:00 pm to finalise details. All parents and students should attend. Un‐fortunately some students have not been

HARMONY DAY 2012

On Wednesday 21st March each year we celebrate Harmony Day. The purpose of the day is to recog‐nise and understand all the different culture’s within Australia. The primary completed some great activities they made some Harmony balloons and medals. After lunch the whole school walked to the school oval to play sport which was the theme for this year’s Harmony Day. The Primary played a round robin of soccer and the secondary played soc‐cer and baseball, it was a great day and all the stu‐dents enjoyed the day and played harmoniously.

Congratulations to the Yeoval Boys soccer team who contested the Western Area Knockout 2nd round.

We played Narromine in Dubbo and in windy condi‐tions went down 8 – 0. The boys played extremely well and were well served by Grant Iles, Josh Lees, Anaru Poihakena‐Jackson and Matthew Wykes in goal.

Well done lads and thanks to Mr McLaurin who did a fantastic job refereeing. CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs McIntyre in the office who won the bucket of easter eggs. $189 was raised for the Years 9/10 Sydney excursion.


K-2 Zoo Excursion

On Friday 16 March, K/1 and Year 2 went on an exiting excursion to Western Plains Taronga Zoo. We had a very dramatic start to our day with the bus breaking down, but with the quick thinking office la‐dies on the job we luckily found some replacement buses. A big thank you to Mrs Tobin and Mr Cantrell for jumping in at the last minute. We got to the zoo and started with an educational talk. This was really interesting and we got to meet lots of different animals. We then ventured to the playground and had some lunch and a play. After a yummy treat, thank you Carleigh and Belinda, we moved into our groups and trekked around the zoo. We had such a wonderful day! We saw the baby meerkat, an elephant doing a poo and met the very noisy howler monkeys. A huge thank you to the parents who made this day possible, Eileen, Belinda, Renee and Linda! Also a big thank you to our fabulous teachers, Mrs Blatch, Miss Crain and Mrs Ward! Without your dedication we wouldn’t be able to have amazing experiences like this! Miss Kendall Dodt
