The Affton Community DaysParade and Festival, with the themeof Affton Community Days Is Out ofThis World, is set for Saturday, Sept.21.

This years parade and festival hasa different parade route and a newfestival venue St. Dominic Savio at7748 Mackenzie Road.

New Parade Route

The parade begins at 10 a.m. fromAffton High School, travels south onMackenzie Road to Gravois Road,east on Gravois to Weber Road (at the

Affton Fire District Headquarters),west on Weber Road to Mackenzie

and north to the festival location atthe St. Dominic Savio Parish parkinglot.

Shuttle buses will be available fromAffton High School, 8309 MackenzieRoad, to St. Dominic Savio. Lookfor signs designating where the buswill pick up and drop off at the twolocations. The shuttle buses will runfrom 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. before theparade and after the parade until12:30 p.m.

The St. Louis County Bagpipersand Honor Guard will lead the paradefollowed by St. Louis County PoliceChief Tim Fitch and Capt. ChrisStocker of the Affton Fire Protection

District.Following them will be the VIP

cars. Grand Marshal Terri Ems will

be honored for her 20 years chairingthis event. Following the GrandMarshal will be Chamber PresidentJake Baretich; the 2012 Citizens ofthe Year, Larry and Pam Knox; andthe 2012 Business Person of the Year,Tim Weinmann.

Parade judges three teachershonored by the Affton Chamber ofCommerce last March will belocated in front of Gateway Insuranceat 9302 Gravois. Marching bands from

Affton and Bayless school districtswill participate again this year.

Parade winners will be announcedat the festival grounds at 12:55 p.m.

Festival Grounds

Booths on the festival grounds willbegin operation at 11 a.m. Festivitiesget underway just before noon afterCounty Council Member Steve Stengerdelivers the National Anthem. Thefestival ends at 9 p.m.

Besides the normal festival typefood, St. Dominic Savio is offering achicken dinner in the parish cafeteriafrom 4-7 p.m. at a cost of $8 for adultsand $6 for children. The meal includestwo sides, dessert and a drink. Therewill be tables and chairs under the bigtent for those who want to eat outsidewhile listening to the entertainment.

Other foods available will includesnow cones, kabobs, gyros, egg rolls,funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers,brats, chips, nachos, fried Oreos,pizza, and all kinds of desserts. The

Affton Chamber of Commerce willagain sponsor a beer and margaritabooth.

There will be inatable amusementrides for the kids, a climbing walland, new this year, a mechanical bullfor the young at heart. Fire truckrides will be available. Game boothswill include a dunking booth, duckpond, bean bag toss, balloon dart,football toss, bulls eye game, washers,spinning wheel, and Blinko.

Medicine Shoppe-Affton willoffer u shots and free blood sugarscreenings from noon to 3 p.m. under

the Affton Chamber tent. For ages 12and up, the u shots cost $30, howeverthere is no out-of-pocket cost for thosewith Essense, Medicare Part B, PartC, or Medicaid.

Rafe tickets will be sold out ofthe Affton Chamber tent for a freezerlled with 100 steaks from KenricksMeats. The winning ticket will bedrawn at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 andavailable until 7:45 p.m. that evening.
