WHAT is Alcohol?

• Water, flavours, organic matter and

minerals are added to ethanol to form

Beer and wine.

• Alcohol can be altered to create

liquors such as whiskey , gin

and vodka.

• Alcoholic means something relating to alcohol.

• Alcoholism is the illness of a alcoholic person.

• It is a wide term for problems relating to alcohol where a

person suffers from compulsive and uncontrolled

consumption of alcohol.

What happens when alcohol is consumed?

• When alcohol is first consumed it may give the drinker a certain

energy or “buzz”

• However alcohol is actually a depressant that causes the CENTRAL

NERVOUS SYSTEM(CNS) to slow down.

• It’s only a matter of time until the person becomes drunk…..

• Intoxication: It is a limitation of the body’s physical and mental

status, ranging from feeling energised to being unconscious

Reasons to jump into this thing

• Alcoholic parents.

• Peer pressure.

• To escape from the problems.

• Curious to taste it.

• Social drinking.

• Thinking skills impaired.

• Physical performance impaired.

• Diseases and bodily damage:• Cirrhosis of liver.• Brain functioning.• Physical tolerance.• Hangovers.• Decreases the body temperature.

Effects

Brain• Alcohol can reach the brain in a short amount of time

and the brain’s ability to control the body is greatly

affected. Fine motor skills, speech , and the vision may

be effected .

Heart• Alcohol causes the heart rate to increase and the blood

vessels to expand. Due to the expanded blood vessels,

blood is circulated closer to the outer most layer of skin,

allowing the body’s heart to escape easier.

Liver

• The liver is the organ that process the alcohol in the

body and turns it back into water and cabon dioxide.

• When more alcohol is consumed faster than the liver

can handle, the alcohol continues to circulate the

blood stream causing intoxication.

Stomach

Some of the alcohol consumed by a person will pass

through the lining of their stomach to reach the blood

stream.

Taking too much alcohol in a short amount of time may

cause vomiting

Alcohol can affect a persons ability to control

decisions, behaviour and emotions

There is a chance of getting STD's, unwanted

pregnancies when person is under the influence of

alcohol

The most deadly affect is driving under the

influence of alcohol which leads to accidents

Volunteer in any community services.

Develop personal, social, and resistance skills.

Take more extracurricular activities from

school.

Exercising.

Maintain healthy diet.
