Bravo to our middle school-
ers and their teachers on
their performances of Shrek
Jr. last week. They all
worked so hard and their
efforts were greatly enjoyed
by the audiences.
Small Groups are facilitated by your peers and meet in their homes. They give us supportive and encouraging people to help us not only make our Lenten journey more meaningful but our everyday lives more meaningful.
Small Groups begin meeting the week of March 4th. A form was sent home last week plus one was attached to the email. Complete and return it to the parish office or email to Robin Brenner at [email protected]
Another Testimonial About Small Groups
I started attending small group because I wanted to learn more about the Bible and its meaning. I had attended cate-chism as a child from grade school through high school, learned prayers, sacraments, but never really read the Bi-ble. Through small groups I have been able to read Scrip-ture and then through discussion I have been able to inter-pret meaning and incorporate these interpretations into my daily life. My faith has grown stronger and now I feel as if something is “missing” when I am unable to attend mass or complete my daily Bible readings. Small group has helped me build the habit in my life of getting up each morning before the rest of the household to have my quiet time with God. It starts my day off great and clears my head and opens my heart to the day in front of me! I have also been lucky enough to share this experience with my family, as my mother and sister have joined small group, and we have made new faith friends. I feel as if I am starting anew in my Catholic faith. –Brenda B.
Thank you to everyone who participat-
ed in the Snuggle Up and Read Chal-
lenge while we were off of school due
to inclement weather. We had almost 30 students
participate in the challenge! Congratulations to our
winner, Evan Kraemer, who received a new blanket
and a gift card to Barnes & Noble!
School Safety Plan
The SHS safety plan was updated this past summer. It
contains information on different kinds of scenarios from
a gas leak to an armed intruder. Next week, we will
practice two new procedures: an administrative hold and
a lockdown. The definition for both are below. The
main difference is the freedom in which students can
move around the building. Both procedures will limit
guest access to our building. These two procedures will
be discussed with the students on Monday morning.
These drills will not last long and are not meant to scare
student, rather it is a way to introduce the students to
the terms and procedures needed to keep everyone safe
in a control environment. We will practice on-campus
and off campus evacuations later, and you will be in-
formed.
An Administrative Hold is a means to rapidly enhance
the level of security in the facility. By locking all exterior
doors and main interior doors, staff can make it more
difficult for an intruder in the building or a dangerous
person in the vicinity of the facility to gain access to staff
and students. This type of Administrative Hold does,
however, allow staff and students to continue with pro-
ductive activities in a limited fashion.
A Lockdown is a response to an actual threat of violence
or serious incident that could jeopardize the safety of
students/staff. This type of lockdown is used to dramati-
cally and rapidly enhance the level of security in the facil-
ity. By locking all exterior and main interior doors, staff
can make it more difficult for dangerous person(s) in the
vicinity of the facility to gain access to staff and students.
This type of lockdown further requires that all staff and
students seek as much physical safety from physical as-
sault as possible by implementing ALICE.
Make-Up Hours due to Inclement Weather
The Reedsburg School District has opted for extending Fri-
days to the normal length of the school day versus having an
early dismissal and adding March 22nd back into the school
calendar to make up some of the instructional hours needed.
SHS will be following the same schedule to ensure that we
have Easter week off and finish school on June 11th.
