April 19, 2015 Third Sunday of Easter
“Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” — Luke 24:46-47
Third Sunday of Easter April 19, 2015
Happy Third Week of Easter! Well the Masters are over and for the golfers among us that was their Superbowl. Personally, I like playing golf, but am not that good….hence breaking the tee box at last year’s golf outing for OLCS. However, I cannot watch Golf on TV…it is more boring than my homilies. We all know what is key to a good golf game is silence and concentration. But that is the exact opposite of the Easter Season! My friends, we continue our journey in this Season with the challenge the Risen Lord poses to us this weekend: Be a Witness. A witness gives testimony of facts of an event that happened. A witness
cannot be SILENT or quiet! We have to look into our lives as well and ask the question: Where am I called to be a witness? Thankfully, many of us have not had to (and hopefully won’t) answer this question as some of our brothers and sisters have with their blood, as we see what is happening with ISIS, but we are called to give our life as a witness to the HOPE that is offered in the Risen Lord WHEREVER we go. The meaning of witness is to offer HOPE. That is how we live out the Easter Message….to be a disciple of Jesus by giving the hope we have found in him to others. The Gospel message is simple in word, but often challenging in putting it into action. It does not have to be big things but the little moments of life that we can offer HOPE. Be a Witness….no better way to live out the Easter Glory of our Lord!
Speaking of living out the faith, continue to pray for all who have joined the church and have received the sacraments in this Easter Season. Last weekend began an opportunity as a parish to continue to live out the Second Vatican Council of full, conscious, active participation by offering the precious blood at all Masses. Thank you to our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist who help us and who serve regularly. This also is a great way to get involved at the parish as well. If you are looking for a way to get involved, becoming a Eucharistic Minister is a great way to do so!
With the conclusion of Easter Break at school, the homestretch for the school year has begun. Soon our children will be on a much needed and deserved summer break. It’s always a privilege to be with them, but especially in this time of year. We know that this time of the year is busy for everyone with First Communions, Confirmations, Prom, Graduations, etc. As the adage goes: God is never too busy to listen, don’t be too busy to talk. With the busyness of this time of year, remember what and more importantly, who is important! Be a witness to our youth by saying a prayer for them!
Remember there are still 4 more weeks of Easter left! Take full advantage of it and be a witness to our Risen Lord!
Have a great week!

A Family Perspective The apostles were afraid of Jesus until he ate with them and they touched him. In your family the ordinary acts of eating together, touching, embracing not only confirm our love for each other, but also celebrate God’s presence in your family. These ‘ordinary’ moments contain the ‘Extraordinary.”
