It is hard to stay calm (like a coke bottle) even when things don’t go your way? Why or why not? What steps could you take proactive and calm when things are not going well. When you are proactive, you make a choice how to react to the things that happen in your life, you act like a coke bottle you might be shake up or mad; but you stay calm and don’t explode!

Proactivity is the habit of Personal Vision

• Habit 1 - Be Proactive. - Be responsible for your life. - Make Choices from Values not Temporary or Immediate Feelings. - Best way to predict your future is to CREAT IT!

Reactive vs. Proactive Behaviour Reactive:

• allow outside influence • control response

Stimulus

Response

Proactive• Use a space between stimulus and

response to make choice which best apply values.

Stimulus

Response

Space for freedom to

choose according to values

Proactive vs. ReactiveWhen you are PROACTIVE, you

make good choices about how you respond to something happening. You are always ready with a calm

attitude. You do things to make sure that the right things will happen. You are prepared for anything that

might happen. When things don’t go your way, you aren’t happy, BUT you

stay calm.

When you are REACTIVE, you could explode at any minute. Things happen and they “catch you off guard”. You aren’t ready for things that might happen. You deal with things when they

happen instead of being prepared.

Where do you fall?

Very

How could you be more

Act or Be Acted UponOur basic nature is to act, and

not be acted upon.

Proactivity: 5000+%difference in effectiveness.

The difference between people who exercise initiative and who

don’t.

Development of seven habits.

Each habit puts the responsibility on you to act.

Difference between Reactive people and Proactive people

• Reactive people- Blame circumstances, conditions.- Behaviour is a product of their conditions, based on feelings.- If social weather is good, If it is bad, they feel bad.

• Proactive people- Don’t blame anyone or anything.- Behaviour conscious choice, based on values.- They carry their social weather with them.

REACTIVE (EXAMPLE)

• In flurry of words against opponents during several gatherings, the politicians have mistakenly damaged their cause. This time it was Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif who said that he will eliminate electricity from the country.

• Addressing a PML-N gathering, the PML-N leader said that he will eliminate the electricity from the country in two years.

In a slip of tongue during a party gathering , the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Chief Imran Khan said that go and vote for lion, a symbol of PTI’s opponent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the upcoming elections.

• The whole world calls Jinnah a man of words

PROACTIVE EXAMPLE

Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto was proactive. He was a

charismatic leader Real leaders are ordinary people with extra

ordinary determination

CirclesCircle of concerns: (Focus our time and energy)

A circle of concern encompasses the wide range of concerns we have, such as our health, our children, problems at work, the amount of government borrowing, or the threat of war.

Concerns:Things that worry, bother, frustrate

Influence:Things you can do something about.

As we look at those things within our circle of concern, it becomes apparent that these are something over which we have no real control and other that we can do something about.

Circle of influence:

A circle of influence encompasses those concerns that we do something about. They are concerns. That we have some control

Proactive Focus on circles:Proactive focus on issues within their circle of influence.

They work on things they can do something about.

The nature of their energy is doing this is positive, enlarging and magnifying.

They increase their circle of influence.
