With a passion for innovative solutions, he has helped clients ranging from multinational & public-listed companies to the SMEs, from automotive, telecommunication, F&B, to

industrial and property sectors, just to name a few. He and his team generate powerful corporate image & brand building awareness campaigns to increase their clients’ market share & bottom lines.

Andy’s foray into BNI stems out of pure curiosity when back in early 2002, he attended a BNI meeting when he answered a BNI placement in the local newspaper. Since then, he has not looked back as he experienced the effectiveness of the power of word-of-mouth marketing by generating over a million ringgit worth of business thus far.

As a 12 year old member in Synergy Chapter now, also a Gold Club member, he has participated in various roles in the Leadership Team such as NEC, VH, Events, Dance Master, Committee Member, including being the Chapter’s President for 6 terms and leading the Chapter to achieve 40+ members in 2008 and also, Platinum Status in 2010. The Givers Gain™ philosophy which embodies what BNI stands for, has served him well all these years.

In 2011, Andy became a BNI Ambassador to oversee, guide and manage a few chapters in the KL West region. April 2013 marked a new involvement when he became the Executive Director of Perak region with the launching of the 1st chapter in Ipoh. Aptly named as Pioneer Chapter being the first of its kind in Ipoh, it has currently 40+ members with a business transaction of over RM 2 million. Not bad for a new chapter in a new region.

Founder and CEO of A&O Brand Building Consultants, Andy Wong leads a team of youthful and creative builders employing the latest online and offline methods in addition to traditional media.

Since then, he has not looked back as he experienced the power of word-of-mouth marketing by generating over a million ringgit worth of business thus far.

Upon returning from an awe-inspiring time from the LA International Directors Conference in November 2013, and witnessing & hearing countless success stories and experiences from the Directors from countries around the world, Andy is even more convinced and excited of his role as a BNI Director. He realizes that he is in a position to play a vital role in helping to put together business communities to assist the local businesses to build a stronger network to support one another, both socially and economically.

Be it as a branding consultant, a BNI Ambassador or Director, Andy’s zeal to help businesses to grow their business has not diminished. Members in his chapters not only regard him as a source of motivation but readily give him credit for his genuine desire to help them grow their business and realize their dreams. With a passion to launch or grow chapters to 50+ members in the KL West and Perak region, he has tremendous optimism to grow the business community here in order to change the way Malaysia does business.

Sheer Hard Work and A Never Give Up attitude are the keys to

SUCCESSThe Executive Director of Bentley Music and Sound Specialist Group, Ken Phua, has been at the helm for more than 25 years. He has spearheaded and fine tuned the company to become the leader in the musical instruments and sound reinforcement industry.

Ken, married, has two young sons who are aspiring to follow his footsteps and lead the company to greater heights. He has been in BNI for the past four years. He was NEC in his first Chapter, Millennium. Subsequently he was the Chapter President for

two consecutive terms during which the Chapter received the Platinum status. Currently, he is in the Leadership Team as assistant to the Director of Elite Chapter.

Bentley Music i tsel f was in i t iated by Group Chairman, Mr. Phua Sin Loke more than 50 years ago. One challenge they faced on a major scale during this time was educating the market to realize that music played an integral role in creating the cultural identity of the Malaysian community. Since the 70’s, music education has moved from the school curriculum to a secondary school subject and at present, post graduate studies are conducted in our local universities. Thus creating a market for Bentley’s products, services and expertise.

At present, Bentley offers musical instruments, sound reinforcement systems and corporate audio visual among others. They are retailers and distributors since 1975 and are specialists in their field. Their six core corporate divisions are retail, wholesale, institutional, corporate projects, corporate communication and Bentley Music Academy. Their projects are mainly from the tourism and related industries, and institutional sectors.

BNI & KenIn 2010, Ken became a member of BNI and today he says this, “I have never looked back since.” The Givers GainTM philosophy which is the spirit of BNI has hit the right note with Ken. He equipped himself with a postgraduate course in MBA and eight years ago, he went on to getting a certification in Financial Planning. Leadership Team Member & Former President of Millennium

The Business Systems of BNI are highly effective and its implementation has helped improve not only his business but also in encapsulating the aspects of growing through the Networking with the Social Capital. He has seen how BNI’s networking with various Power Team Circles has created a shared market alliance to address the same targeted client segments minus the competition. Instead they have complemented each other in a great spirit of teamwork.

Ken himself is passionate in what he does and is motivated to help others realize their dreams. He does this by giving the best referrals to fellow members’ business and has seen his business grow in many folds.

In BNI, Ken has worked as a connector between his referrals and their sources, and achieved a resounding success. In his business, Ken has successfully integrated BNI’s techniques to fine tune his Human Resources department. Another aspect is the Network Marketing via word-of-mouth which scores highly in this business as relationships that build trust is essential for winning over clients.

Relationships alone are not enough. “Deliver your products and services at the best by doing it with that extra mile for your clients” says Ken. This has been his core value as an experienced businessman. This is a perfect accompaniment for his personal value which is “having the highest integrity of the work we offer to take.” These values have formed the foundation of Bentley’s reputation for excellence and superior quality.

Due to the economic situation and escalating cost of materials and labour, production cost is also on the rise. As a result, many consumers have been turning to competitors from lower competitive manufactures that are sourcing from countries like China – at the expense of quality and image.

On a positive note, Bentley is expecting rapid growth in the next three years. With a welcome boost from the Tourism Industry, and Malaysia being hailed as a hub for international studies, exponential success is anticipated. A steady, growing demand from the religious sectors further assures Bentley’s of a need for their products and services.

And Bentley has the tenacity and mental strength not just to meet but exceed these demands and expectations.

Ken Phua says “Long term success is driven by a relentless effort to chart a course to achieve the target to ensure a plan or vision is succeeding to a realization.”

And BNI will be instrumental in Bentley’s success.

Hard Work Pays Off!A graduate from Macquarie University, Ng Keh Jun is married and has two children. He comes from a generation of honest and humble individuals who have worked hard to take his company to where it is today.

Nam Thye Holding, founded by his grandfather, has been the wholesaler of household products nationwide for almost 40 years. Now, as Mega Houseware Industries (MHI), established in 1995,

they manufacture stainless steel cookwares and electrical home appliances.

Although timely, the decision to diversify into manufacturing proved to be a challenge. “We simply did not have much experience in manufacturing and had to rely on skilled workers” Keh Jun says. Yet they overcame their challenges through steely determination, standing united as a family.

Keh Jun has been a member of Pioneer Chapter in Ipoh for the past eight months. Relatively new, he already regards it almost like family. Here, he has ample opportunity to work together with business people in the community. He is confident that BNI will help him to expand his business. “BNI is the perfect platform that will make my dreams a reality” he says.

MHI’s major customers are Giant, Tesco and Makro (South East Asia) In Malaysia, they can be considered as one of the leaders in the manufacturing of stainless steel cookwares and plastic household products. Having a broad client base, they are quite well established in the marketplace.

Honestly declaring that profit is his main motivator, Keh Jun realizes that there is nothing more fulfilling than seeing this business thriving for the third generation. Under his management, he is anticipating much growth and expansion to take his business to the next level which is to grow his export business.

Already, he has received the expertise of a consultant from Uptown Chapter. With Keh Jun’s integrity, humility, the willingness to work hard plus the guidance and expertise from BNI, MHI is all set for generations to come.

He is confident that BNI can provide him with the support and motivation he needs when he is faced with challenges.

Never give up your dream, never give up your hope.A Certified Financial Planner and an accountant, James is happily married, and has one ping pong playing daughter.Hailing from a little village in Perak and orphaned at the tender age of 1½, James was raised by his grandmother. He views her as his early motivational guru who set him on the path to success.

”Study hard and you will get a good job with a fan over your head. However you must be your own boss one day and control your destiny” she said.

Taking her advice, James stepped out of his comfort zone and co-founded IPP Malaysia in 2001. IPP offers risk planning services and local as well as offshore investment planning services. Their focus is wealth accumulation and wealth management advisory, helping clients to achieve their key financial goals. Their clientele are mainly medical specialists, professionals, business owners and high net worth clients.

Having joined BNI in 2001, he serves in Millennium Chapter. He loves the Givers GainTM philosophy as it works well for him personally and for his business. And he is positive that BNI will continue to be an important platform for IPP.

James believes that his best future clients are his existing clients. However, he and his team are aware of the need to build a pipeline of prospective clients. From his years of experience, James ranks the personal relationship between the clients and advisors as the most important element in the building of a successful business.

A former Finance Director of an Oil & Gas company, he defines success as “when you know that you have more than enough; when you realize that you are here to serve and to be a blessing. It is the precise moment when you are prepared to give with no reservations – expecting nothing in return.”

Currently, James sees himself as being in a position to reach out to the less fortunate. As the President of the Rotary Club of Bukit Kiara Sunrise, he gets the opportunity to make a difference in the community. He is actively involved in projects, campaigns and programs aimed at improving and impacting lives.

Church also provides another avenue to reach out to meet the needs of those who need it most.

His advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is not to despair if they have not achieved what they set out to, as they are still journeying towards their goal. It is only over when they decide it is. James Cheong’s guiding principle in life is – While hard work and knowledge will get you close, and attitude will get you there, it’s the Love of God that will put you over the TOP.

BNI has played a vital role in James’ business by referring quality clients to him.

Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and OzonationSimple Access Fluid Extraction Therapy

About EBOO Safe Therapy

Ozone therapy was established in Germany and is now endorsed in more than 25 countries all around the world including Italy, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Cuba and some states in the US. There are 2,000 ozone clinics in Europe alone.

Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation Simple Access Fluid Extraction Therapy or EBOO Safe Therapy is performed by withdrawing venous blood from the patient, using a specialized guideline with a computerized peristaltic pump controlling the rate of withdrawal. Then the same blood is infused into an oxygen-ozone gas exchange filter. After passing through the filter, the treated and filtered blood is re-infused into the patient.

Studies suggest that while providing the blood with rich oxygen, the ozone destroys foreign microbes and has antioxidant properties.

This Therapy is very suitable for people who are:• Healthy, but do not practice a healthy lifestyle• Generally feeling unwell• In the course of their illness

Other Health Benefits:• Lowers total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein to provide good cholesterol & triglycerides reading• Improves blood circulation of both heart & brain to prevent heart disease & stroke• Deformation of blood vessels and calcium formation which causes blockage of heart arteries• Clears toxin caused by heavy metal content• Reduces liver damage, reduce pigmentation and liver spots• Regulates blood pressure

The possibilities of this type of therapy will certainly achieve wonders when used on other disorders and issues associated with the human body.

Research also indicates that this therapy has been especially effective in treatment for coronary artery disease patients. It shows:

1. Improved Vasodilatation (stretching of a vessel/arteriole beyond its normal dimension leading to increased blood flow) in ischemic areas.

2. Reduced hypoxia (reduction of oxygen carrying capacity of the blood)

3. Induced Neoangiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels) due to enhanced release of nitric oxide.

How to spot a fake branded handbag?

If a survey on branded handbags is conducted out of 1,000 respondents, 998 will agree that top grade imitations look and feel exactly like authentic ones. Out of 2 remaining respondents, one

may be unsure and one would beg to differ because he or she knows what the other 999 respondents didn’t know.

To catch a thief let’s think like a thief. If we were to run a business selling fake branded handbags, our ultimate goal is to produce fakes as close as possible to the genuine ones, sell at a price much lower and still make a handsome profit. Authentic designer products are made from the finest quality materials and coupled with strong branding and marketing they are sold at premium prices. As fake branded handbag business owners, we will quickly realize that it is not feasible to reduce cost on raw materials and labour and yet produce an item exactly like the original.

To the general public, this major misconception that fakes are exactly like the genuine ones would be cleared if, for every top grade fake handbag produced, the original is place side by side for comparison. After some time, even the layman would notice that there will be zippers, stitches, country of origin, linings, textures, weight and even smell that are different between the two. However such exercise is very costly. There are very few who would invest in educating the public given the minimal return compared to selling.

Zipper:

Coach bag with YKK ZIPs. 90% of Coach Bags use YKK zips. When a YKK zip is spotted high chance bag is authentic. Fake Coach bags do not use YKK zips. However there are also authentic Coach Bags that do not use YKK zips.

Most consumers get worried when they see “Made in China” labels. Many brands set up factories in China to stay competitive. Coach, Longchamp, Burberry and even Prada have handbags made in China. If you ever see a Coach handbag with a made in Italy label, you should have it authenticated.

Making claims on a branded handbag’s authenticity must be handled very delicately and tactfully as it may cause embarrassment or/and resentment. It is best to examine only when you are the owner and done by a specialist. A specialist is a person who has the knowledge and skills acquired from handling branded handbags of that particular brand over time. Genuine Genuine

Fake VS Genuine

It is easy to differentiate when both fake and authentic bags are placed side by side. As seen here, the authentic Prada zip is larger and heavier with a hook of similar colour. The fake Prada zip is lighter and smaller.

Longchamp handbags are normally secured with double stitches at the bottom of its handles and sides. The above differentiates a fake (single stitch) from an authentic Longchamp (double stitch).

The length of each stitch is also a telltale between fake and authentic handbags. The authentic Louis Vuitton Speedy bag has 4 complete stitches on both sides with equal length.

Rediscovering True Malay Cuisine

Enak KL is the first of its kind in the world – a Malay fine dining restaurant, set in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. It takes more than just great tasting food to make an emotional connection, especially the kind you miss after being away from home for a while. Enak KL has that little something special other than delectable dishes and that difficult-to-find genuine service that makes you feel right at home – no airs, no hype, none of that pretentious ‘haute couture’ feeling.

Enak KL’s combination of delicious authentic cuisine and heart warming service has won them numerous awards. Bringing traditional Malay cuisine to the fine dining population of Kuala Lumpur, Enak KL has won many well-deserved accolades.

The attention to detail can be seen from the elegant and cosy ambience at Enak KL. It is almost like a trip down memory lane to the good old days when you would visit your great-grandmother for a family dinner get-together. In addition to the nostalgic atmosphere, each of the familiar all-time local classics such as Satay, Gado-Gado and Rendang Padang are prepared using age-old recipes that have been passed down for generations, staying true to Enak KL’s goal of serving traditional and Fine Malay Cuisine that warms your heart!

Other than the usual staples, ‘all but forgotten’ local dishes also make an appearance at Enak KL in all their authentic splendour. One is Botok-Botok, and Enak KL’s version involves wrapping mackerel in aromatic ground spices and then steaming them with 9 types of herbal leaves including papaya, laksa leaf and cassava shoots.

The tedious process that goes into the preparation of the sauces illustrates just how meticulous they are. Every combination of spices that is used for each dish is thoroughly thought through, ensuring the palate is suitably imbued with the unmistakable richness of the Malay culinary heritage. Enak KL offers Sambal Bajak and Sambal Hijau alongside the traditional Sambal Belacan and Acar Rempah.

Enak KL’s selection of dishes is complemented by their personalised service. To familiarise themselves with the unique pairing of dishes to deliver an unparalleled dining experience, the Team must go through intensive training before attending to Guests. This initiative is helmed by Sherena Razaly, owner of Enak KL, to achieve a competitive edge for the family business.

Get a feel for Malay fine dining with a heart warming touch. Perhaps you’ll rediscover one of your Moyang’s (ancestor in Malay) specialities you haven’t tasted in years.

KEYFundamentals to succeed in your Business by Referral Strategy

Every business develops and practices a set of guiding principles to achieve their desired goal – long term success. These principles are most effective when they are organized in a step by step effort that defines and clarifies what you need to do.

In BNI KL West, KL South, Perak, Hong Kong and Thailand, we have applied the 5 Key Fundamentals and have results to prove that these are the keys to success in BNI!

1. Attendance: Regular and consistent attendance is crucial as it creates awareness of your brand, and enhances your visibility and your credibility in a business community.

2. Knowledge & Skills – Learn More to Earn More:Acquire the knowledge and equip yourself with the necessary skills needed to market and build brand loyalty in a business community

Why am I in BNI and how BNI helped me

BNI has helped to bring my sales to the next level and allowed me access to potential groups of clients which I may not otherwise have gained access to. After over 3 years in BNI, nearly a third of my sales are now either directly or indirectly thanks to BNI referrals.

Lester Seow, Uptown Chapter, member for 5 years

I am a Corporate Soft Skills Trainer, I tried securing some training programs with a big organisation but was unsuccessful. A few months later I joined BNI Uptown and got a referral for that same organisation. I was called to give a presentation followed by a chance to conduct one training program. The following year I was called back to run 2 rounds of that same program plus develop one more program.

Two years ago they increased 4 more new programs. 2014 will be my 9th year conducting training for this large organisation. In 2013 I conducted 22 days of training for this organisation. I can expect the same for 2014Major (Rtd) Michael Chua, Uptown Chapter, member for 9 years

Armon Enterprise has been a member of BNI since 2007

I started the laundry business about six months before that , with zero experience in that field.

Focus was to capture corporate clients like fitness centers, caterers, condominium etc.

Secure 1st corporate clients (FIR) within three months after joining Inspire Chapter. Followed by Desa Condominium, Izaa Caterers, Fitness First. Etc. Besides these , every week I received on an average five referrals for personal items such as jackets, dresses, comforters, bed sheet etc. The above spinned off a reoccurring monthly sales.

Even X-BNI members are still my clients.

BNI referral contributes about 40% of my total monthly sales.Armon, Synergy Chapter, Member for 7 years

I was at the BNI International Directors Conference in Long Beach in Nov 2013. When I arrived I was surprised to get an email from a Japanese to meet me at the conference. Miss Tomoko Ito participated in the BNI International Directors Conference as a translator of Mr. Mitsuo Tomono, an Executive Director from Gifu and Owari East region, Japan . Mr. Mitsuo Tomono wanted to know more about the business in Malaysia for a client. We had a brief introduction and discussion and I am looking forward to seeing them to discuss further on developing their business in Malaysia. They found me when I registered to attend the conference and I represented my company as a Branding Consultant.

On another case, I was speaking briefly to another Director from US, Elayne Lieberman, a BNI Director Consultant, from Ventura County, CA. Just with a few short minutes I was able to connect Danny Ng of Uptown Chapter, a 10 year old BNI member in KL West region, an established company who has factories in Malaysia and Thailand specializing in distribution of IT hardware and accessories eg. Laptop, PC and Tablets.

Many may not think much about BNI high level of compliance to the code of ethics and attendance policies. However, it gives a certain level of trust and it is easier to connect within the network. If you have been a member for a long time it is even easier to talk about your credibility and to introduce you. Look beyond your chapter and get ready to elevate yourself to a larger network by active participation and create credible visibility that members are willing to support and brag about you over and over again. Attending conferences, workshops, networking events and many more is what BNI provides. Plan to use the services available that is accessible by all members.

Now, I’m looking forward even more eagerly than before to participate in more BNI conferences & workshops, whether locally or international as you really do not know who you are going to meet up & connect. BNI is truly changing the way the world does business...

Andy Wong, Synergy Chapter, member for 12 years BNI Ambassador - KL West, Malaysia & Executive Director, Perak, Malaysia.
