Inks Girls Camp News
Girls Camp 2020
We enjoyed seeing so many great camp-ers and counselors during Camp Longhorns 81st Carnival season. More campers than ever attended one of our 52 carnivals in 45 different cities across the USA. Don’t forget to bring your carnival card with valuable merits to camp with you this summer. You can always save them, but just in case, the merit store is being stocked by Cami with many great new items! The Girl’s camp has 98% of last summer’s campers signed back up and many of your favorite counselors will be back as well! Bill, Carol, Will and Coco are looking forward to seeing everyone and expecting this summer to be our BEST-EVER (of course).
Inks Lake was lowered 8 feet in January and February. This gave us the opportunity to make lots of improvements, clean up the shoreline a bit and add a few muddy items to the lost and found. We built a new water volleyball court at the Fun in the Sun area and are in the process of completing a new Flamingo cabin. You will also notice a new Ole Face-full by Mary’s cabin. This new hydration station will be re-built from Zark Withers “cool” original design from 1950. It will still be a d-merit for wasting water. Barney and his crew are putting the finishing touches on a beautiful remodel of the KP area in the Chow Hall.
The new water volleyball court under construction.

Mail Call is one of the highlights of the day; campers enjoy receiving mail from their family and friends. Our “NO BOX” policy has been a blessing to alleviate a messy cabin environment and competition amongst campers to write home for more packages. Camp is a gift in itself!
1. NO BOXES – Boxes of any size will be returned to the sender, this includes Amazon. 2. ENVELOPES ONLY! (Any size: paper, padded or Tyvek) with small items are accepted, please
limit to only ONE per week. 3. NO FOOD, CANDY, GUM, WATER GUNS, SILLY STRING or WATER
BALLOONS!!! Our staff will supervise all packages opened by your camper and unacceptable items will be taken up and donated to local charities.
4. Please do not purchase gifts for the whole cabin. 5. SHIPPING A FOOTLOCKER TO CAMP: We will hold your camper’s footlocker and 1 box
with laundry bag and bedding until your camper arrives. 6. In case of a special situation or emergency item, please notify our office. (c/o Director)
7. Please ADVISE family AND friends OF THIS POLICY.
ADDRESSING MAIL Writing letters is new to many campers. Please make sure your camper can properly address an envelope/postcard. We recommend sending pre-addressed envelopes or labels for your camper to use. Don’t forget to pack the stamps!
If sending letters ahead of time, make sure camper’s FIRST & LAST name are on the envelope. We will get it to the right cabin!! *Cabin names are not announced until campers arrive at camp.

CLASPCORNER
Now it’s time to gather information for the Spring Newspaper ... and it’s almost time to think “parking passes” (which go out separately from camp mail at the beginning of May!) It’s a time when we see the grass getting green and the weather alittle warmer that we know Camp is just around the corner and SOON there will be some of the greatest kids in the world arriving for many, many weeks of fun-in-the-sun. If you are not already a member of C.L.A.S.P. and would like to join or you are a member and would like to pay your dues, the easiest way to do this is on-line on the CLH website. Again, it’s a bargain - $20 married couples and $15 singles. Life Memberships are $200 . . . add a spouse $250! C.L.A.S.P. is made up of former campers and counselors who are at least 23 years old and also any parent(s) who have or have had children at camp for at least 2 years and signed for a 3rd year! Our C.L.A.S.P. “year” is from September to September and Sunday, June 7th is the start of another magical summer. LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU SOON!
A NOTE FROM C.L.A.S.P. . . . C.L.A.S.P. (Camp Longhorn Alumni and Special Parents) has had a busy six months! Carnivals are almost over with some great, great help at the C.L.A.S.P. tables. Our HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY CAMP LONGHORN BASH was a huge success at Horseshoe Bay in the middle of January! Weather was cool and nice, lunch at both camps was enjoyable and our banquet and “campfire” in the evening of January 18th was GREAT! Wonderful buffet, special friends and most of all a great “campfire” by JOHN MILLER and his assistants, PAUL LEE and DOUG THOMPSON. And, we thank you, JOHN, PAUL, and DOUG.
