Application

The 7SD522/523 relays provi-des full scheme differentialprotection and incorporatesall functions usually requiredfor the differential protectionof transmission lines. It´s de-signed for all transmissionand distribution levels andprotects lines with two up tosix terminals. The relay is de-signed to provide fast andphase-selective fault clearan-ce. The relay uses fiber opticcables or digital communica-tion networks to exchangedifferential data and includesspecial features for the usein multiplexed communi-cation networks. This contri-butes towards improvedsecurity and availability of theelectrical power system.The 7SD522/523 is suitablefor single- and three-phasetripping applications for twoup to six line ends. It alsohandles with transformersand reactors within the pro-tected zone and is wellsuited for serial compensa-ted lines. The relays may beemployed with any type ofsystem grounding.The effect of communicationnetwork delay times is con-sidered and compensated forthe differential measure-ment.The serial interfaces to thedifferential relays are flexibleto adapt to the needs of mul-timode or monomode fiber orthe communicationnetworks. A change in thecommunication method doesnot force the replacement ofthe relay because flexiblecommunication modules maybe applied after installation.

Maximum Lifetime and

Reliability

The 7SD52 hardware is ba-sed on 20 years of experi-ence by Siemens applyingnumerical protection. State-of-the-art 32 bit microproces-sor technology is employed.The device complies with thelatest standards andtechniques for transient re-sistance and electromagneticcompatibility. The number of

electronic components issubstantially reduced byusing large-scale integratedcircuits which provide highaccuracy and are driftresistant.The relay software is de-signed in accordance withhigh level programming lan-guage techniques. The longexperience in manufacturingnumerical relays provide thebasis for an efficient soft-ware structure. This, alongwith modern manufacturingtechniques and quality con-trols, assure maximum lifeti-me and reliability.

Cost-effective powersystem management

The SIPROTEC 4 units arenumerical relays which alsoprovide control and monito-ring functions and thereforesupport cost-effective powersystem management. Theycontribute towards the relia-ble supply of electric powerto the customers.Local operation has been de-signed according to ergono-mic criteria. Easy-to-read dis-plays are a major design aim.The SIPROTEC 4 units havea uniform design and anenhanced degree of functio-nality which represents awhole new level of protec-tion and control. If the appli-cation requirements changethe relays may be adapted byentering new settings orlogic without any additionalhardware costs.The use of powerful micro-controllers and the applica-tion of digital measured valueconditioning and processinglargely suppresses the influ-ence of higher-frequencytransients, harmonics andDC components.

Complementary protection

The unit can also be used ascomplementary differentialfor all types of distance pro-tection equipment.

The 7SD522/523 incorpo-rates several protective func-tions usually required fortransmission line protection.These are� Phase overcurrent protec-

tion (backup or emergencyfunction)

� STUB bus overcurrent forbreaker and one half, ringbus, and other sharedbreaker schemes with stubdisconnect switch

� Phase selectiveintertripping

� Automatic reclosure single/three pole

� Overload protection.

Programmable logic

The integrated programma-ble logic functions allow theimplemention of functionsfor the automation ofswitchgear (interlocking) or asubstation via a graphic userinterface. You can also gene-rate user-defined messagesand logical combinations of

internal or external signals(control inputs, elements,metering data, etc.).Differential communication/ Local and remotecommunication

Continuous self-monitoring

The hardware and softwarecomponents are continuouslymonitored. If abnormal condi-tions are detected, the unitsignals them immediately. Inthis way, a high level of safe-ty, reliability and availability isachieved. If the protection iscompromized, the relay willblock tripping and revert toB/U o/c if enabled and avail-able.

Reliable batterymonitoring

The internal battery is usedto back-up the clock, switch-ing statistics, event logs andfault recording in the event ofa power supply failure. Itsfunction is checked by theprocessor at regular inter-vals. If the capacity of thebattery is found to be declin-ing, an alarm is generated.Routine replacement istherefore not necessary. Allprotection and other settingparameters are stored in theFlash-EPROM, and thereforenot lost if the power supplyor battery fails.

User-friendly localoperation

Many advantages can alreadybe found on the clear anduser-friendly front panel:Positioning and grouping ofthe keys support the naturaloperating process.A large non-reflective back-litdisplay provides clearinformation display.

Programmable (freely assign-able) LED’s for importantmessages are provided. Ar-row keys ensure an easy na-vigation in the function tree.Operator-friendly input of theset values via the numerickeys or DIGSI 4 is providedas well as fourprogrammable keys forfrequently used functions atthe push of a button.

Operational data and faultdata with time stamp

The SIPROTEC 4 units pro-vide extensive data for faultanalysis as well as control.All indications listed beloware protected against loss ofpower supply.� Fault recording:

The last eight faultrecordings are alwaysstored in the unit. All faultrecordings are timestamped with a resolutionof 1 ms (digitaloscillography).

� If the voltages are con-nected to 7SD52, the faultrecording includes thephase and calculatedground voltages. Also dif-ferential and restrainedcurrent are written in afault event buffer.

� Event LogAll Events (e.g. operatingor switching actions) arestored in the event log.The time resolution is1 ms.

Operational measuredvalues

The large scope of measuredvalues permits improved sy-stem management as well assimplified commissioning.7SD52 provides local and re-mote measurements.This includes low currents,calculated ground current,sequence components, re-mote phase magnitudes andangles for all terminals.

Commissioning

A special PC-based programrunning within a standardbrowser provides currents,voltages and phasors to sup-port simple commissioningof the relays. This allows alsoremote access during normaloperation.

Control

The integrated control functi-ons permit control of circuitbreakers or isolators (electri-cally operated/motorized dis-connectors) via the integra-ted operator panel, binary in-puts, and DIGSI 4.A full range of control execu-tion functions is provided,such as select-before-operate.

Time synchronization

A battery buffered clock isprovided and can be synchro-nized via a synchronizationsignal (IRIG-B via satellitereceiver), binary input, sy-stem interface or SCADA. Adate and time is assigned toevery event.As a special feature the7SD52 allows the timesynchronization viacommunication links of therelays linked together in thedifferential scheme. In thisway all relays are workingand storing events based onthe same absolute timebasis. That makes eventseasily and accuratelycomparable within thedifferential scheme.

Assignable control inputsand contact outputs

Control inputs, contact out-puts and LEDs can be as-signed to specific functions.

Selectable function keys

Four function keys can be as-signed to permit frequentlyrecurring actions very quicklyand simply.Typical applications are:jumps to a given position inthe menu tree in order to dis-play the event log or to per-form automatic functions,such as ”Switching ofcircuit-breaker”, hot line tag-ging, reclose blocking, etc.

Local operation

All operator actions can beperformed and informationdisplayed via an integrateduser interface (HMI).

On the LCD display,substation and device in-formation can be displayedas text in various lists.Frequently displayed infor-mation includes measuredand calculated analog values,information about the stateof the switchgear and therelay, protection information,general indications andalarms.

The 7SD52 relay employsflexible communicationmodules.For the systemcommunications and modemcommunications a 820 nmoptical module for connec-tion to multimode fiber withST-connectors is available.Also available are electricalRS485 or RS232 interfaces.

The protection interfaceshave the following options:

� 820 nm optical interfacewith clock recovery / ST-connectors for direct con-nections with multimodefiber up to 1.5 km or theconnection to a communi-cation converter.

� 820 nm optical interface /ST-connectors for directconnections up to 3.5 kmwith multimode fiber.

� 1300 nm optical interface /ST-connectors for directconnections up to 10 kmwith single-mode fiber.

The PC DIGSI 4 operatingprogram is the user interfacefor the 7SD52 units. It is amodern PC operatorinterface that is usable withWindows� versions 95/98/NT4.0. DIGSI 4 is the toolused for configuration, pro-gramming and interface forthe 7SD52 and otherSIPROTEC 4 relays.With the additional programDIGRA 4 comprehensivefault analysis is posible. TheDIGSI Remote program of-fers a remote access via mo-dem to the relay with it´s rearservice/modem interface.

Fault recordings, which arestored in COMTRADE for-mat, are displayed with apowerful PC-tool DIGRA 4(DIGSI-GRAFICS). This pro-gram offers analysis func-tions such as voltage andcurrent phasors, fourier anal-ysis, rms analysis, time tag-ging of control inputs andcontact outputs, elementpick ups and drop outs, com-prehensive measure func-tions and more.

The settings can be enteredand displayed as secondaryor primary values. Switchingbetween secondary and pri-mary is accomplished by oneclick on the correspondingsymbol in the tool bar insideDIGSI 4.

Commissioning

Special attention has beenpaid to commissioning. Allbinary inputs and output con-tacts can be displayed andactivated directly. This cansimplify the wiring checksignificantly for the user.Furthermore all currents andoptionally voltages and therephasors are available viacommunication link at the lo-cal relay and displayed in therelay, with DIGSI 4 or a spe-cial commissioning programrunning in a standardbrowser (Internet Explorer orNetscape Navigator).

CFC: Programmable logic

With the help of the CFC gra-phic tool (Continuous Functi-on Chart), interlocks andswitching sequences can beconfigured simply via dragand drop of logic symbols.No special knowledge ofsoftware is required. Logicalelements, such as AND, OR,flip-flops and timer elementsare available, for enhancedmonitoring, alarming andcontrol applications. You canalso generate annunciationsand logical combinations ofinternal or external signals.That offers adaptability forcustom requirements.For protection, control andmeasurement different logicplans can be generated.

Browser based Commis-sioning aid

The 7SD52 provides a com-missioning and test programwhich runs on a standardINTERNET browser (no spe-cial software is required atthe PC). This shows the pro-tection topology and compre-hensive measurements fromlocal and remote terminals.Local remote measurementsare shown and the breakerpositions of each line end aredepicted.

The 7SD52 has a system inter-face which is according to theIEC 60870-5-103 standard. Withthis interface it can be opticallyor electrically connected to asubstation control system likeSINAULT LSA or the SICAMsystem. DNP3.0 andPROFIBUS FMS are inpreparation.

Service / modem interface

With the service / modem inter-face the protection staff has lo-cal or remote access withDIGSI 4 or a standard browserto the 7SD52 relay. Local andremote communication can bebuilt up optically withstarcoupler or electrically withRS485 bus. Thus secure andcost effective solutions are pos-sible which save costs, becausethe work with the relay can bedone from a central location orfrom remote from the office.

Application for a three ter-minal line

Figure 18 shows the typicalapplication for a three termi-nal line. On the TAP-line, the7SD52 multiterminal differen-tial relay is connected to cur-rent (CT) and voltage (VT)transformers. For the differ-ential functions only CT´s arenecessary. A connection tothe VT´s improves the fre-quency measurement and of-fers increased information,such as distance to fault.The link to the other relays ismade by single-mode opticalfiber. There are two opticalmodules available. One co-vers distances up to 10 kmand the other up to 35 km.Direct fiber connection offershigh-speed data exchangewith 512 kBit/s and improvesthe speed of the differentialconfiguration.

At the main line two differen-tial relays are connected toCT´s. The communication ismade via a multiplexed com-munications network. 7SD52offers many features to han-dle connections via commu-nication-networks with high security.Depending on the bandwidthavailable in the communica-tion system 64 kBit, 128 kBitor 512 kBit can be selectedfor the X21 interface, wherethe G703.1 interface workswith 64 kBit/s. The connec-tion to the communicationdevice is done via cost effec-tive 820 nm interface withmultimode fiber. A communi-cation converter converts theoptical to electrical signals.This offers an interfer-ence-free and isolated con-nection between the relayand the communication de-vice.

Differential protection(87L, 87T)

The differential protectionfunction has the followingfeatures:� Measurements are per-

formed separately for eachphase; thus the trip sensiti-vity is independent of thefault type.

� An adaptive, sensitive mea-surement method with highsensitivity for differentialfault currents below ratedcurrent offers the detectionof highly resistive faults.This trip element uses spe-cial filters, which offers highsecurity even with highlevel DC-components in theshort circuit current.

� An high-set differential tripstage which clears differen-tial fault currents higherthan nominal current within15 ms offers fast trippingtime and high-speed faultclearence time.

� When a long line or cable isswitched on transientcharge currents load theline. To avoid a higher set-ting of the sensitive differ-ential trip stage, thissetpoint may be increasedfor a settable time. This of-fers greater sensitivityunder normal load condi-tions.

� With the setting of the localCT-errors the relay automat-ically calculates the re-straint/stabilization currentand adapts its permissiblesensitivity according theCT´s data in the differentialconfiguration, optimizingsensitivity.

� Different CT ratios at theterminals are handled insidethe relay. The mismatch of1 to 6 is allowed.

� The differential trip can becombined with anovercurrent release. Thusdifferential current andovercurrent lead to a finaltrip decision.

� Easy to set tripping charac-teristic. Because the relayworks adaptive only thesetpoint IDiff> and IDiff>>must be set according thecharge current of theline/cable.

� Differential and restraintcurrent are monitoredcontinously during normaloperation and are displayedas operational measure-ments.

� High stability during exter-nal faults even with diffe-rent current transformerssaturation level. For an ex-ternal fault only 5ms satura-tion free time are necessaryto guarantee the security ofthe differential configura-tion.

� With transformers or com-pensation coils in theprotection zone, the sensi-tive trip stage can beblocked by an inrush detec-tion function. It works withthe second harmonic in themeasured current com-pared with the fundamentalcomponent.

� With transformers in theprotection zone, vectorgroup matching andCT-ratio matching is done inthe relay. Additionally, thezero sequence current flow-ing through a groundedneutral is eliminated fromthe differential measure-ment. The 7SD52 thereforeworks like a transformer dif-ferential relay, where as theterminals may be far away,decreasing infrastructure(CT´s, breakers, relays)requirements.

Enhanced communicationfeatures for communicationnetworksThe data required for the dif-ferential calculations are cy-clically exchanged infull-duplex mode in form ofsynchrounous, serial tele-grams between the protecti-on units. The telegrams aresecured with CRC-checksums, though telegram er-rors in a communication net-work are recognized.� Data communication is in-

sensitive to electromag-netic interference becauseof fiber optic cable use.

� Supervision of each re-ceived telegram and of theentire communication pathbetween the units withoutadditional equipment.

� Clear identification of eachdifferential relay by a com-munication address in thedifferential topology. Thisallows detection of changesin the communication pathin the communication net-work to avoid misoperation.

� Recognition of reflectedtelegrams in the communi-cation system.

� Detection of timingchanges in communicationnetworks.

� Measurement of the delaytime to the remote lineends with dynamic com-pensation of the delay inthe differential measure-ment. Supervision of themaximum permissible delaytime is included.

� Alarms for heavily disturbedcommunication links. Faultytelegram counters are avail-able as operational mea-surement.

Circuit-breaker intertrippingand remote trip/signalsNormally the differential faultcurrent is calculated for eachterminal nearly at the sametime. This leads to fast andequal tripping times. Underweak infeed conditions, es-pecially when the differentialfunction is combined with anovercurrent release a phaseselecting intertrip offers atripping of all line terminals.� 7SD52 has 4 intertrip sig-

nals which are transmittedin high-speed (� 20 ms) tothe other terminals. Thisintertrip signals can also beinitiated by an external relayvia binary inputs and there-fore be used to indicate, forexample, a directional deci-sion of the back-up distancerelay.

� In addition, 4 high-speed re-mote trip signals are avail-able, which may be initiatedby an external or internalevent.

� 24 remote signals can befreely assigned to inputsand outputs at each termi-nal and are circulatingbetween the different de-vices.

Communication topologies /modes of operationThe differential relays maywork in a ring or daisy chainline topology (see figure 20).Use of a test mode offer ad-vantages under commission-ing and service conditions.� In a ring topology a loss of

one data connection is toler-ated by the system. The to-pology is rerouted in a chainwith shorter than 100 msand the differential functionremains afterwards into op-eration withoutmisoperation.

� To reduce communicationlinks and to save money forcommunications, a chain to-pology may be applied. Atthe line terminals only costeffective 7SD522 relays arenecessary for this applica-tion.

� A highly reliable dual com-munication path applicationis a two terminal configura-tion where the main commu-nication path is switchedover to a standby connectionif the main communicationlink fails. This hot-standbyoperation offers high avail-ability for important lines dueto communication failures.

� In a ring topology one lineend can be logged out fromthe differential topology forservice or maintenance rea-sons by a signal into acontrol input. Checks for thebreaker position and loadcurrent are made before thislogout is initiated. In a chaintopology, the relays at theend of the line can be loggedout from the differential to-pology.

� For test purposes the wholeconfiguration can be broughtinto a test mode. All func-tions and indications areavailable except the breakersare not tripped.The local relay can be testedand no trip or intertrip reac-tion is done by the other re-lays.

Thermal overloadprotection(ANSI 49)

A built-in overload protectionwith an alarm stage is pro-vided for the thermal protec-tion of cables.The trip time characteristicsare exponential functions ac-cording to IEC 60255-8 andconsider the current-initiatedheat gains from the opera-tional currents as well as thesimultaneous cooling effect.The preload is thus consid-ered in the trip times foroverloads.An adjustable alarm stagecan initiate an alarm beforetripping is initiated.

Backup overcurrentprotection(ANSI 50, 50N, 51, 51N)

The 7SD522/523 provides abackup overcurrent protec-tion. Two definite timestages and one inverse timestage (IDMT) are available,separately for phase currentsand for the neutral (residual)current. Two operatingmodes are selectable. Instantaneous high-speedswitch-onto-faultovercurrent protection

(ANSI 50HS)

Instantaneous tripping is pos-sible when energizing afaulty line. On definitelarge-fault currents, thehigh-speed switch-onto-faultovercurrent stage can initiatevery fast 3-pole tripping.With lower fault currents, in-stantaneous tripping afterswitch-onto-fault is also pos-sible if the breaker positionsat the line terminals are mon-itored and connected to therelays. This breaker positionmonitor offers a high-speedtrip during switch-onto-faultconditions.The switch-onto-faultinitiation can be detected viathe binary input ”manualclose” or automatically viameasurement.

Automatic reclosing(ANSI 79)

The 7SD522/523 relay isequipped with an automaticreclosing function (AR). Thefunction includes several op-erating modes:� 3-pole auto reclosing for all

types of faults; differentdead times are availabledepending on the type offault.

� 1-pole auto reclosing for.1-phase faults, no reclosingfor multi-phase faults.

� 1-pole auto reclosing for1-phase faults and for2-phase faults withoutearth, no reclosing formulti-phase faults.

� 1-pole auto reclosing for1-phase and 3-pole autoreclosing for multi-phasefaults.

� 1-pole auto-reclosing for1-phase faults and 2-phasefaults without earth and3-pole auto reclosing forother faults.

� Multiple-shot autoreclosing.

� Interaction with an externaldevice for automaticreclosing via control inputsand contact outputs.

� Control of the integrated ARfunction by external protec-tion.

� Adaptive auto-reclosure.Only one terminal is closedafter the dead time. If thefault persists this terminal isswitched off finally.Otherwise the other termi-nals are closed via the com-munication links. Thisavoids stress due to heavyfault currents fed from allterminals again.

� Supervision by an externalsynchronism check.

� Monitoring of thecircuit-breaker auxiliarycontacts.

� Voltage check for discrimi-nation between successfuland non-successful recloseattempts.

In addition to the above men-tioned operating modes, se-veral other operating modescan be performed by meansof the integrated pro-grammable logic (CFC).

Current transformer/Fuse

failure monitoring

The 7SD522/523 relayprovides comprehensivemonitoring functions cover-ing both hardware and soft-ware. Furthermore, the mea-sured values are continu-ously checked for plausibility.Thus the current and voltagetransformers are also in-cluded in this monitoring sys-tem.

Functions

A broken wire between theCTs and relay inputs underload may lead tomisoperation of a differentialrelay if the load current ex-ceeds the differentialsetpoint. The 7SD52 pro-vides fast broken wire super-vision which immediatellyblocks all line terminals if abroken wire condition is mea-sured by a local relay. Thisavoids misoperation due tobroken wire condition. Onlythe phase where the brokenwire is detected is blocked.The other phases remain un-der differential operation.Additional measurement su-pervision functions are� Symmetry balance of volta-

Trip circuit supervision(ANSI 74TC)

One or two binary inputs foreach circuit breaker pole canbe used for monitoring thecircuit-breaker trip coils inclu-ding the connecting cables.An alarm signal is issuedwhenever the circuit iscompromized rupted.

Lockout (ANSI 86)

A trip command may initiatea lockout until it is reset via acontrol input. Therefore thelockout state can beremoved by manual reset-ting. A prerequisite is thatthe close coil as usual at thecircuit breaker is locked withpending tripping command.

Local measured values

The measured values are cal-culated from the sampledcurrent and voltage signalsalong with the power factor,the frequency, the real andreactive power. Measuredvalues are displayed as pri-mary or secondary values orin percent of the specific linenominal current and voltage.The relay uses a 20 Bit highresolution AD-converter andthe analog inputs are factorycalibrated so a high accuracyis reached.The following values are

Every two seconds the cur-rents and voltages arefreezed at the same time andtransmitted via the communi-cation link. At a local terminaltherefore currents and volt-ages are available with theirmagnitude and phasor (an-gle). This allows checking thewhole configuration underload conditions. In addition,the differential and restraintcurrents are also displayed.Important communicationmeasurements, such as de-lay time or faulty telegramsper minute/hour are alsoavailable as measurements.

Commissioning and test

functions

Special attention has beenpaid to commissioning. Allcontrol inputs and contactoutputs can be displayed andset directly. This can simplifythe wiring check process sig-nificantly.The measured values can bedisplayed via DIGSI 4 on thePC screen as primary, sec-ondary and/or percentagevalues simultaneously. Thisprovides a complete over-view of the actual systemconditions.

� The 7SD522/523 provides acircuit breaker test function.Single- and three pole tripp-ing commands can begene- rated manually fol-lowed by a reclosing com-mand. The pole open timecan be set separately to theauto reclo- sing dead time.

� Special modes of operationprovide easy testing andcommissioning help underservice conditions.

4 predefined settinggroups

The settings of the7SD522/523 relay can beadapted quickly to suitchanging networkconfigurations. 4 settinggroups can be predefinedduring commissioning orchanged by remote via aDIGSI 4 modem link. Thesetting groups can beactivated via control inputs,via DIGSI 4 (local or remote),via the integrated keypad orvia the substation controlinterface.

Indication filtering anddelay

Indications can be filtered ordelayed. Filtering serves tosuppress brief changes atthe indication input. The indi-cation is passed on only ifthe indication voltage is stillpresent after a set period oftime. In the case of indicationdelay, there is a delay for apreset time. The informationis passed on only if the indi-cation voltage is still presentafter this time.

Indication derivation

A further indication (or acommand) can be derivedfrom an existing indication.Group indications can also beformed. The volume of infor-mation to the system inter-face can thus be reduced andrestricted to the most impor-tant signals.

Data transmission lockout

A data transmission lockoutcan be activated, so as toprevent transfer of informa-tion to the control centerduring work on a circuit bay.

Test mode

During commissioning a testmode can be selected; allindications then have a testmode suffix for transmissionto the control system.

Control

In addition to the protectionfunctions, the SIPROTEC 4units also support all controland monitoring functions re-quired for operating medium-voltage or high-voltage sub-stations. The main applica-tion is reliable control ofswitching and other proces-ses. The status of primaryequipment or auxiliary de-vices can be obtained fromauxiliary contacts and com-municated to the7SD522/523 via control in-puts. Therefore it is possibleto detect and indicate boththe OPEN and CLOSED posi-tion or a faulty or intermedi-ate circuit-breaker or auxiliarycontact position. The switch-gear or circuit-breaker can becontrolled via:� integrated operator panel� control inputs� substation control system� DIGSI 4.

Automation

With the integrated logic,specific functions for theautomation of the switchgearor substation by means of agraphic interface (CFC) canbe set. Functions are acti-vated by means of functionkeys, control inputs or via thecommunication interface.

Switching authority

The following hierarchy ofswitching authority is appli-cable: ”LOCAL”, DIGSI 4 PCprogram, ”REMOTE”. Theswitching authority is deter-mined according to parame-ters or by DIGSI 4. If the”LOCAL” mode is selected,only local switching opera-tions are possible. Everyswitching operation andchange of breaker position isstored in the event log. Theswitch command source,switching device, cause (i.e.spontane- ous change orcommand) and result of aswitching operation isrecorded.

Command processing

The 7SD522/523 offers allfunctions required forcommand processing, in-cluding the processing of

single and double commandswith or without feedback aswell as sophisticatedmonitoring of the controlhardware and software.Control actions usingfunctions such as runtimemonitoring and automaticcommand termination afteroutput check of the externalprocess are also provided by7SD522/523. Typicalapplications are:� Single and double com-

mands using 1, 1 plus 1common or 2 trip contacts

� User-definable breaker/dis-connect/groundary switchinterlocks

� Operating sequences com-bining several switchingoperations such as controlof circuit-breakers, isolators(disconnector switches) andearthing switches.

� Derived triggering of switch-ing operations, indicationsor alarms by logical combi-nation of existing informa-tion.

Assignment of commandfeedback

The positions of the circuit-breaker or switching devicesare captured by feedback.These indication inputs arelogically assigned to the cor-responding command out-puts. The unit can thereforedistinguish whether the in-dication changes as a conse-quence of switching opera-tion or due to a spontaneouschange of state (intermediateposition) which may indicatefaultly auxiliary switches orcompromized control wiring.

Chatter disable

The chatter disable featureevaluates whether the num-ber of status changes of anindication input exceeds aspecified figure in a configu-red period of time. If so, theindication input is blocked fora certain period, so that theevent list will not record ex-cessive operations.

Filter time

All binary control indicationscan be subjected to a filtertime (indication delay) to pre-vent spurious operation.

The typical AC connection has3 phase current transformersand 3 phase-ground (earth)voltage transformers.
