What is Touch a Truck?
• An opportunity to educate families and build partnerships with the community
• Participants are able to touch and explore the inside of large and commercial vehicles and
interact with the drivers and operators
Program Goals• Serve a wide variety of people throughout
the Glendale community
• Provide a fun, interactive event for approximately 5,000 in attendance
• Recruit industrial/construction trucks, military vehicles, fire department trucks, law enforcement vehicles,
heavy-duty dealerships, commercial transport
trailers, and utility towing vehicles
• Attract new and interesting vehicles such as Oscar Mayer Weiner mobile and Truly Nolen Stretch Limo
Scope of Event
Activities• Black out BINGO
and survey• Raffles/Giveaways• Sand Play Area• Tiny Tot Drivers• Big Dig Area• Interaction with
vehicles on display
Budget
• Self sustaining event with no funding from the city’s general fund
• Use of partners and sponsors toprovide funding and in-kind services
• On-site sales of program-themed items
Sponsors
• Title and Presenting Sponsorships • Receive benefits depending on sponsorship
level purchased– Examples of benefits include
• Name/Logo in the event title and/or part of the event logo• Name/logo over event title on event program
• Name/logo on marketing materials (flyers, posters, etc.)
• Name/logo on 2’ x 3’ signage Name/logo on Event Staff Shirts
• Sponsor product/service information handed out at event
• Name/logo and link on the department website for event
Partners
• Provide in-kind services, product or promotions for the event
• Event costs are lowered due to partners helps with required or needed materials
• Example of partnersinclude the Westgate Entertainment District
Challenges
• Elimination of Special Events Division due to limited resources
• Growth of event • Complaints of noise
for younger children (horns, sirens, etc)
Outcomes• Educational opportunity and great outreach• New partnerships with 40+ businesses• Provided a family event, which meets department goals• 2010 event survey results Included:
