Two Towns – One Book: Announces the Book of the Year!CLIFTON PARK - Two Towns - One Book: Clifton Park & Halfmoon Read! announced the book of the year. The contenders for our third community read have been revealed, scrutinized and discussed. The votes have been tabulated. Our choice is one of our non-fi ction selections: The Bucolic Plague: How Two Manhattanites Became Gentlemen Farmers by Josh Kilmer-Purcell. This deliciously funny book describes what happens when two New Yorkers do the unthinkable: start over, raise a herd of kids, and get a little dirty. You’re sure to love this riotous and moving true tale of goats, mud, and a centuries-old mansion in rustic upstate New York. The winning title was decided by public vote ending October 27. The other contenders were: The Dirty Life by Kristin Kimball; The Orphan Master’s Son by Adam Johnson, The Round House by Louise Erdrich; and The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig. Visit our website, http://www.twotownsone-book.org for additional information.

Nana Nana Banana, Fe Fi Bo Nana, Nana! That’s me! I’m a firm believer in the saying that you are only as old as you feel! My body may be eleven years old, but on the inside, well...I’m basically a pup! I’ve got a spring in my step,
and I’ve been told that I’m too boisterous for cats and smaller animals. I will do just about anything for a treat, ask me to do my tricks for you! Until recently, I had a home to call my own for my whole life, I’m a bit confused
as to why I’m here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m having a ball here at the shelter with my friends, but I would really love to have a home to call my own!
Capone is a handsome Mastiff/Pittie mutt. This guy is very smart and already knows the commands for: sit, paw/shake, speak, down, and roll-over. He is
ready and willing to learn even more.
Hello there, I’m Marty, a soft and handsome orange lad. My nose has the cutest freckles, and my coat is nice and thick. I sure like to have it petted
because I’m a very affectionate puss. I’m vocal about letting you know when I’d like some company. You can pick me up for a snuggle and then
you’ll hear my fine loud purr. I am such a good boy. My story is rather sad. Some years ago I was adopted, but my family recently abandoned me.
When the shelter called them to let them know I was here they never came for me. It is hard to learn you are not wanted, and I’ve been feeling sad. All
I need is to share love and have a forever home. How about yours?
Hello, I’m Kitty, a little torbie girl - my coat is tiger with some orange. I recently had kittens, but they’re all adopted. My former family had
financial issues so they couldn’t keep us. Now that my motherhood duties are finished, I need a home for myself. I am a sweet and friendly girl with a strong purr. I am fine with being held and I give nice head butts, too. Now I’m ready to relax, run around and chase things like a young girl should.
Let’s play ball!

Self-Driving Cars Could Be The Future Of Travel The electronics and comput-er-driven features of mod-ern automobiles continue to evolve at a rapid pace. Until now, however, most of these features have been manu-ally employed. But the self-driving car, once a concept reserved only for science fi c-tion, may make driving even more passive in the near fu-ture, with some slated to hit showrooms as early as 2017.
Google, as a pioneer of some of the more advanced self-driving automobile technologies, says that computer-navigated cars are safer than manually op-erated automobiles. But will the public embrace such vehicles? Autonomous cars are already being operated in California, Nevada, Florida and certain areas within the United Kingdom. At the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Toyota and Audi unveiled their prototypes to sell to regular car buyers, while Ford and Mercedes-Benz are working on their own self-driving technology.
Legislation within the United States has already paved the way for autonomous cars to be tested on private roads. Once these cars are made available to the public, legislators will begin the task of revising driving laws and may need to reconsider how drivers earn their licenses.
Although the technology differs depending on the manufacturer, in the Google autonomous ve-hicle, a number of components are working in concert to enable the vehicle to move safely. At the heart of the system is a laser range fi nder mounted on the roof of the car. This laser generates a detailed 3D map of the environment. The car then combines these laser measurements with established high-resolution maps of the world. The vehicle also employs other sensors in its tech-nology. Radars mounted on the front and rear bumpers enable the car to detect its surroundings. Cameras detect traffi c lights, while GPS and inertial measurement units will help to keep track of the vehicle’s location and various movements. Data is also programmed into the car so it can differentiate stationary objects like poles and mailboxes from factors in the environment, such as pedestrians or construction. The Google vehicles also are programmed to follow road rules and make assessments of changing situations, such as advancing at a four-way-stop if other drivers have not yet moved into the intersection.
The goal of self-driving car manufacturers is to reduce congestion and accidents and keep traffi c fl owing more smoothly. Automakers will continue to conduct research to see how well self-driving cars and the people inside them work together.
