There were 15 six-figure lots sold yesterday, compared to just two on the same day in 2002. Agent Johnny McKeever, speaking by telephone to Allbritton, signed the buyer’s ticket at 310,000gns, with Peter Doyle the immediate underbidder. “We’d liked him from the moment we saw him on Sunday, but I never thought he’d make that money,” said McKeever. (Breeders’ Cup Bulletin cont.)

Fleetstreet Dancer Joins Classic Field Fleetstreet Dancer (Smart Strike), claimed for$40,000 a year ago, will target the Breeders’ Cup Clas-sic after running second in Sunday’s GII GoodwoodBreeders’ Cup H. “He’s a hard trier and he likes thistrack,” explained trainer Doug O’Neill. “I can’t imaginethere being more than seven or eight horses in the race,to be honest with you. It’s 120 grand to run even ifyou’re nominated. I don’t know who’s going to be thateager to run a longshot and pay 120 grand, so I guessif we don’t get in, it wasn’t meant to be. But at thispoint, we plan to run. I would think the defections haveto help our chances.”

Forest Music Possible for Juvenile Fillies Owner Michael Gill plans to aim Forest Music (Unbri-dled’s Song), impressive winner of a Laurel maidenWednesday, to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. In herfirst start, the gray filly earned a Beyer Speed Figure of105. She completed the race in 1:08.53, the fastestdebut six furlongs in the 92-year history of Laurel Parkand just three-fifths off the track record set by RichterScale in the 2000 GI De Francis Dash.

Working Towards the Cup Got Koko (Signal Tap), who defeated reigning Horseof the Year Azeri (Jade Hunter) in the Sept. 28 GIILady’s Secret Breeders’ Cup H., worked five furlongsTuesday at Santa Anita in 1:00.40. “We just wanted toget her loosened up,” said trainer Bruce Headley. “Herstyle is to come from off the pace, but Lady Luck al-ways has something to say about everything. Hope-fully, she has the right thing to say.” Breeders’ Cup Turf hopeful Irish Warrior (Irish River{Fr}) worked four furlongs over Hollywood’s main trackThursday in :48. Megahertz (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), aimingfor the F/M Turf, went six furlongs over Hollywood’smain track Thursday in 1:14.40.

European Notes Godolphin’s Moon Ballad (Ire) (Singspiel {Ire}) will notrun in the Classic, but the race could featureJuddmonte Farms’ Weightless (GB) (In the Wings{GB}), the impressive winner of Saturday’s G2 PrixDollar at Longchamp...The Niarchos Family’s G1 PrixJacques le Marois winner Six Perfections (Fr) (CelticSwing {GB}) was reported on target for the Mile byconditioner Pascal Bary. “The plan is for Six Perfectionsto go to California, but I want to make sure that my fillyis in the best order and I will make a final decision aftershe has worked at the weekend,” he told the Post.

Classic Considered for Falbrav Teruya Yoshida and Scuderia Rencati’s Falbrav (Ire)(Fairy King) could be a surprise supplementary entry tothe GI Breeders’ Cup Classic, it was revealed yesterday.Despite the assertion from conditioner Luca Cumanithat the five-year-old “runs in the Turf,” he revealed tothe Racing Post that the dirt contest is under seriousconsideration. “Running him in [the Classic] would be apunt, but should Falbrav win it, it would prove himmore versatile than Giant’s Causeway and Sakhee, andgive him an incomparable profile as a stallion prospect,”the Newmarket-based trainer told the Post. “Should heget beaten in the Classic, all people would do is derideme for running him on the dirt, but I can live with that. The Classic is missing some of the top dirt horses, likeMineshaft, Empire Maker and Candy Ride, but Medagliad’Oro seems virtually unbeatable round Santa Anita. The Turf means taking on Sulamani, which will not bestraightforward. However, I believe Falbrav has a fasterkick than Sulamani, who is more of a horse who windsup his challenge.” But Cumani concluded, “As thingsstand, it is the idea to run in the Turf.” Falbrav lookslikely to be pre-entered in both the Classic and Turf atnext Tuesday’s deadline.

Tornado to Miss Cup? Juddmonte Farms’ Nebraska Tornado (Storm Cat)may sidestep the Breeders’ Cup after it was announcedthat she will remain in training as a four-year-old. De-spite being touted as a live candidate for the Filly &Mare Turf at Santa Anita Oct. 25, the G1 Prix de DianeHermes (French Oaks) and G1 Prix du Moulin deLongchamp winner looks likely to stay at home. “Thereare various considerations for our horses at the Breed-ers’ Cup, but the most likely is that Tates Creek andHeat Haze will go for the Filly & Mare Turf, while OasisDream is an intended runner in the Mile,” Prince KhalidAbdullah’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe told theRacing Post. “Nebraska Tornado has done spectacularlywell this year, climaxed by her success in the Moulin, and she will stay in training next year. We will see howshe is and monitor how the other horses are progress-ing and she has got the option of going for the Mile, but it wouldn’t be a great surprise if she were to skipthe Breeders’ Cup. Before further decisions are made, Ishall talk to both the Prince and [trainer] Andre Fabre.”

Pari-Mutuel Handle Increases In Third Quarter: Third quarter figures of ‘Thoroughbred Racing Eco-nomic Indicators’ for North American pari-mutuel wag-ering on U.S. Thoroughbred racing, U.S. purses andrace days in 2003 were released yesterday by the Na-tional Thoroughbred Racing Association and EquibaseCompany LLC. According to the report, total wageringincreased to $4,007,591,917, a 3.38-percent increaseover the same quarter last year while third quarterpurses dipped 4.15 percent to $306,800,417. Com-pared with third-quarter figures in 2002, racing daysdeclined from 1966 last year to 1950 this term. “Theincrease in pari-mutuel wagering during the last quartercan be attributed in part to the positive impact of themovie ‘Seabiscuit,’” said NTRA Commissioner TimSmith. “In the month after the film’s release, wageringincreased 5.51 percent over the comparable period in2002, with no additional racing days. Record-settingmeets at tracks like Del Mar and Saratoga also helpedfuel the growth we observed in August. Purses, whiledown against the comparable quarter of 2002, remainfairly constant for the year.”
