008 THE RIGHT CHOICE
WHY WE ARE THE WORLD’S MOST INTERNATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
A TRULY GLOBAL EDUCATION: THE INTERNATIONALISM OF AN EF ACADEMY CAMPUS IS TRULY
UNPARALLELED. NO OTHER HIGH SCHOOL OFFERS SUCH A DIVERSE STUDENT BODY, INTER-
NATIONAL FACULTY, GLOBAL CURRICULUM, OR CHOICE OF CAMPUS LOCATIONS.
CAMPUSES IN THE USA & UK
At EF Academy you have your choice of campus locations.
Study in New York or California in the USA, or in Oxford or
Torbay in the UK. Wherever you go, count on modern facili-
ties with a distinctly local flair and a rich international study
environment. You can even rotate between campuses for a
more global perspective.
Learn more: pp. 44–59
CLASSMATES FROM 75 COUNTRIES
Join a student body that hails from every corner of the
globe. Not only will you learn alongside native-speakers of
English, but you will gain a global perspective from fellow
classmates from 75 countries. It’s like studying at a mini-
UN. Best of all, you will return home with a social network of
friends that knows no borders.
WORLD-CLASS INTERNATIONAL FACULTY
Our teachers are highly qualified. Nearly 90% have
post-graduate qualifications. They also bring a global per-
spective to the classroom. Most have lived or taught abroad
themselves, and can share their own insights into the histo-
ry, politics and traditions of 50 countries. They also under-
stand the challenges you face navigating a new culture, and
know how to support you through it.
Learn more: pp. 34–37
THE EF GLOBAL CURRICULUM
We’ve built a set of core “global competencies” into all of
our academic programs so that, whatever your ultimate
learning goal might be, you will become a better global
citizen. You will have many opportunities to become multi-
lingual, travel to other countries, engage in meaningful cul-
tural exchanges, and gain real-world work experience.
Learn more: pp. 28–29
GLOBAL CAMPUS ROTATION
Exclusive to EF Academy is the ability to experience life in
more than one city during your high school education. Our
new global campus rotation scheme allows you to switch
campuses — within the same country or abroad — for a year
or semester, or during special school-break programs.
Learn more: pp. 32–33
MULTICULTURAL STUDENT LIFE
Your EF Academy experience includes far more than lessons
and homework. You also join a vibrant international student
community and participate with new friends in an exciting
weekly calendar of extracurricular and social activities:
international sports tournaments, special interest clubs,
student government, community service, and campus-wide
special events.

EXPERT ADVICE SELECTING A PROGRAM
Well before you leave home, local admissions advisors are on-
hand to assist you and your parents in identifying the right
academic program to meet your educational goals. They can
also help you choose the perfect EF Academy campus for
your needs, since they have visited every campus personally,
and are completely familiar with the staff and facilities.
HELP WITH ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
If you aren’t yet proficient enough in English to study
abroad, EF offers a range of intensive course options, either
at home or abroad, that guarantee results. Ask your local
admissions advisor for more information.
THOROUGH PRE-DEPARTURE PREPARATION
As soon as you have enrolled, we begin preparing you — as
well as your parents — for the experience ahead. We can
assist you with passport and visa applications, book your
international flights, and offer comprehensive travel in-
surance. We can even meet you at your arrival airport and
escort you to school.
A PERSONALIZED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Throughout your studies at EF Academy, we insist on a max-
imum student-to-teacher ratio of 15 to 1. This allows our fac-
ulty to guide and support you as an individual, as well as
focus on your unique goals, strengths and potential.
ACADEMIC GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
A guidance counselor meets with you regularly — either
one-on-one or in a group setting — to monitor your aca-
demic progress. Together you discuss which subjects need
focus or improvement, and how to adjust your study plans
or homework routines to enhance your grades. Construc-
tive feedback and progress reports are a regular part of
academic life.
PERSONAL ADVISOR
We also look after your personal well-being. From day one,
you are paired with an experienced personal advisor. Weekly
meetings ensure you are adjusting to life abroad, thriving in
the campus environment, and feeling at home in your dor-
mitory or host family.
UNIVERSITY PLACEMENT COUNSELING
University placement advisors work one-on-one with you to
develop a comprehensive application strategy. Academical-
ly, we help you to score well on exams such as the TOEFL
or SAT, and prepare you for entrance criteria such as the
A-Levels or IB Diploma. We coach you step-by-step through
the university application, interview, and enrollment process.
STRONG ALUMNI NETWORK
Beyond EF Academy, our Alumni Association ensures you
stay connected to your invaluable network of global peers
and lifelong friends. EF Academy alumni actively support
one another in the years ahead with internship recommen-
dations, networking connections, and job referrals.
WE EMPOWER OUR STUDENTS TO EXCEL. WE BELIEVE IN EVERY STUDENT’S ABILITY TO SUCCEED.
WE ENCOURAGE THEM TO DO SO THROUGH QUALITY ONE-ON-ONE RELATIONSHIPS WITH
TEACHERS, COUNSELORS AND MENTORS ALIKE. WE HELP OUR STUDENTS TO DISCOVER THEIR OWN
TALENTS AND STRENGTHS, AND HARNESS THESE TO A WORLD OF POSSIBILITIES.

EF EVERY STEP OF THE WAY. SUPPORT IS AT THE HEART OF THE EF ACADEMY EXPERIENCE —
WHETHER THAT’S PREPARING YOU TO STUDY ABROAD, LOOKING AFTER YOU WHILE YOU’RE ON
CAMPUS, OR HELPING YOU TAKE THE NEXT STEP TOWARD SUCCESS. WE ARE ALWAYS ON-HAND TO
OFFER ACADEMIC ADVICE AND PASTORAL CARE. SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
24-HOUR SAFET Y AND SUPPORT
YOUR LOCAL LIAISON
We make it easy for parents to keep in close contact with
their children studying at EF Academy. Your local admissions
advisor continues to serve as a liaison between your parents
and the school, so that they always have a personal contact
who can update them — in local language, if need be — about
your progress and well-being.
OUR GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK
EF maintains its own 24-hour global communications net-
work to keep parents informed about the progress and
well-being of their students. Should the need arise, your
local admissions advisor is able to communicate fluently in
English with campus officials abroad 24 hours a day.
EF FACULTY & STAFF SCREENING
All school staff, teaching faculty, dormitory parents and
host families are carefully screened and interviewed for
suitability. Many have also enjoyed working with interna-
tional students year after year.
24-HOUR CAMPUS SAFETY
All our campuses are secure and monitored around-
the-clock by trained staff. In New York and California, we
maintain acres of private grounds in affluent residential
communities well outside the city center. In Torbay, students
are supported by a quiet seaside community. In Oxford, our
historic mansion is a safe 10-minute walk from downtown.
CAMPUS-WIDE ADVICE & SUPPORT
Regardless of which campus you choose, you can always
turn to any member of EF Academy’s staff at any time of
day or night for advice, guidance, support, and comfort —
whether that’s a teacher, personal advisor, academic coun-
selor, sports coach, or dormitory or host parent.
SUPPORTIVE DORMITORY PARENTS
If you live on campus, your dormitory parents live right on-
site and share daily life with you and your fellow students.
You can always ask for support, whether that’s help with
homework or a friendly ear at the end of the day.
WELCOMING HOST FAMILIES
If you live in a local host family, you will enjoy the support-
ive environment of a typical home, where you will also gain
firsthand insight into daily life in the surrounding commu-
nity. The majority of our host families have long-standing
relationships with our school.
PARENT CONCIERGE SERVICE
EF Academy maintains a Parent Concierge Service with staff
who can help you plan a visit to EF Academy, book flights,
apply for any necessary visas, and organize short-term
accommodation on or near campus. We can meet you at the
school, show you around campus, and arrange for you to at-
tend sample classes. We understand that sending your child
abroad is a big emotional commitment and we are here to
support that decision.

EF STUDENTS ACHIEVE. THE WORLD’S BEST UNIVERSITIES ACCEPT MORE STUDENTS FROM
RENOWNED PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOLS — LIKE EF ACADEMY — BECAUSE THEY ARE CONFIDENT WITH
THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION THOSE STUDENTS RECEIVE. EF ACADEMY STUDENTS ACHIEVE CONSIS-
TENTLY HIGH RESULTS ON THE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AND SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TESTS MOST
VALUED BY UNIVERSITY ENROLLMENT OFFICERS.
INDIVIDUALIZED STUDY PLANS
We believe in the potential of every student to succeed.
We also know that no two students are alike. In subjects
where students are academically strong, they require accel-
erated challenges to keep them motivated. In areas where
they are underperforming, they may require additional
study skills or stricter routines. We work with you one-on-
one to assess exactly what you need, and then devise a de-
tailed study plan that will bring out your very best.
RESULTS-ORIENTED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
We offer proven academic programs that cater to a range
of learning goals. Younger students can prepare to sit the
International GCSE exam. Students who plan to attend uni-
versity in the USA or UK can prepare for the International
Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Those students who are partic-
ularly interested in a degree program in the UK should also
consider preparing for the A-Levels. There’s also the option
of earning a US high school diploma. The choice is always
up to you.
Learn more: pp. 60–70
MODERN FACILITIES
Superior academic programs begin with superior educa-
tional facilities. We take great care to ensure the learning
environment at every EF Academy campus is first-rate. All
campuses offer multimedia classrooms and updated sci-
ence laboratories, as well as stylish cafeterias and student
lounges. Depending on the location you choose, you may also
benefit from state-of-the-art ballet, dance, and yoga studios,
art rooms, theaters, playing fields, and a range of other lei-
sure amenities.
THE LATEST LEARNING TECHNOLOGY
We are constantly developing new technology to further
internationalize your educational experience. All of our
campuses offer 24-hour WiFi access to online learning apps
and language lessons. Our classrooms also feature video
conferencing so that you can attend select classes in histo-
ry, politics, art, and culture — wherever they are taking place
in the EF world.

include researching schools, preparing for entrance exams,
taking mock tests, or making university visits.

We maintain close partnerships with universities worldwide

EF ACADEMY
MULTILINGUALISM
MASTERY OF ENGLISH
It is important for all our students to achieve documented
fluency in the English language. Preparation for an official
proficiency credential is an integral part of every program,
whether that’s the Cambridge, IELTS or TOEFL exam.
MATERNAL LANGUAGE STUDIES
It’s important for our IB students to keep up with the lan-
guage of their home country. So in addition to British and
American literature, we offer courses in French, Spanish, or
Chinese as part of the IB curriculum.
THIRD LANGUAGE COMPETENCY
We strongly encourage our students, especially those en-
rolled in our IB Diploma program, to study a third language.
Any student can also take French, Spanish, and Mandarin
classes, if there is sufficient demand. There are also a num-
ber of student-organized conversational language clubs on
each campus. You can even opt to study any of seven lan-
guages during school breaks at EF International Language
Centers in 16 countries.
REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE
INTERNATIONAL “ACTION PROJECT”
We encourage students to activate their studies with an
extracurricular project that has international scope. In past
years, students have competed in the Hult Prize, a compe-
tition that encourages ideas for world-changing social en-
terprises. Students have also competed in the Duke of Edin-
burgh Award, as well as in a number of national Science and
Mathematics fairs.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Immersion in the local community is a critical component to
achieving cultural fluency. Through volunteerism, students
form profound relationships in their host communities —
whether that’s making presentations on your own culture,
fundraising for the disadvantaged, or mentoring local youth.
SKILLS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY. AS AN IB WORLD SCHOOL, EF ACADEMY TRULY EMBODIES THE
EDUCATIONAL IDEALS OF INTERNATIONALISM AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE. WE OFFER A RANGE OF
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES SO THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, REGARDLESS OF THE ACADEMIC
PROGRAM THEY CHOOSE, ARE ABLE TO MASTER A KEY SET OF “GLOBAL COMPETENCIES” IN MULTI-
LINGUALISM, LEADERSHIP AND TRAVEL.
OUR EXCLUSIVE GLOBAL CURRICULUM
SUMMER WORK INTERNSHIPS
You can even return home from your EF Academy studies
with job or volunteer experience with a local company or
non-profit organization. During summer vacation, you can
also apply to intern in the international work environment
of an EF office in your home country — or around the world.
SHORT-TERM CAMPUS EXCHANGES
At select times during the school year, your class may even
organize campus exchange, where you swap places with a
similar class in another EF Academy campus for one or two
weeks of travel, study and cultural exchange — without miss-
ing a beat in your academic program.
EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL
GLOBAL STUDENT LEADERS SUMMIT
EF student groups have had the opportunity to travel to
Shanghai, Switzerland, and Costa Rica to participate in the
annual Global Student Leaders Summit, a world youth con-
ference that discusses critical issues currently facing the
planet like hunger, education or the environment.
EDUCATIONAL TRAVEL & SERVICE TOURS
Dozens of students make the world their classroom with
teacher-led tours abroad during their school breaks. These
trips offer incredible opportunities to learn about ancient
history, art appreciation, world politics, or ecological con-
servation on-site. Student can also help the world’s disad-
vantaged with humanitarian service tours to such places as
the Dominican Republic and Ghana.
UNIVERSITY & COLLEGE VISITS
Students preparing for university are able to attend guided
tours of the world’s most prestigious colleges and universi-
ties. We offer regional tours to a country’s top-ranked uni-

GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES WITH EF ACADEMY
“WHEN I ARRIVED AT EF, IT WAS EVEN BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. EVERYTHING I READ ABOUT THE SCHOOL WAS TRUE — THE CAMPUS WAS BEAUTIFUL. THE CITY WAS INSPIRING. THE COURSES WERE INTERESTING. BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH MORE. THINGS YOU CAN’T PROMISE IN A BROCHURE — GREAT TEACHERS, AMAZING FRIENDS — I FOUND ALL OF THOSE THINGS, TOO.”MARTINA DIVKOVIC, SWEDEN
Student, EF Academy Oxford
SCHOOL BREAK ROTATIONS
We offer a range of short-term rotation opportunities — both
within a country or abroad — to experience life in another
city or country during school breaks. Prepare intensively for
an English proficiency exam, study a third language, review for
your IB exam, or gain real-world experience with an internship.
UNIVERSITY SUMMER COURSES
Many of our students also attend special academic pro-
grams hosted by area universities during their summer
sessions. These often include science, mathematics or arts
courses for advanced university credit.
EF ACADEMY033 EF ACADEMY
ACADEMIC EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELDS
Nearly all of our faculty possess advanced degrees which
makes them true experts in their fields — whether that’s in
the sciences, humanities, arts or languages. All share the
same commitment to helping you succeed in high school,
university, and the world beyond.
A WORLD OF EXPERIENCE
We place great emphasis on finding teachers who are pas-
sionate about preparing students for a multicultural world.
To that end, nearly all of our faculty members have stud-
ied, lived, or taught abroad themselves. Though all speak
English fluently, they boast hands-on experience in multiple
countries and represent a diversity of backgrounds to rival
the students they teach. Our faculty contributes actively to
the multicultural atmosphere of every campus.
HIGHLY INTERACTIVE CLASSES
In contrast to the formal teacher–student relationship of
most traditional educational systems, EF’s instructional
philosophy is highly interactive and participatory. We keep
classes small — the maximum student-teacher ratio is 15:1 —
so that teachers can engage with their students rather than
merely lecture to them. Students are actively encouraged to
ask questions and express opinions. We firmly believe this
fosters the self-confidence students need to succeed in a
globalized world.
COMMITTED TO A GLOBAL CLASSROOM
EF Academy teachers enjoy broadening every lesson to
embrace an international perspective. They actively seek
a variety of viewpoints, and welcome the unique perspec-
tive you will bring to a discussion. In this way, students also
learn from each other about world history, current affairs,
and popular culture. Our teachers also take learning outside
the classroom, holding lessons about business with a visit to
Wall Street or lectures on art at the Tate Gallery in London.
WEEKLY OFFICE HOURS
Faculty make themselves available to students outside of
class during weekly office hours. This allows you the chance
to seek one-on-one help with course material whenever you
need it. It also provides your teachers with the chance to get
to know you better as an individual.
AVAILABLE TO LISTEN
On a more personal note, EF Academy teachers are deeply
committed to helping each student feel at home in their new
surroundings. They know what it’s like to live in a new coun-
try, and they’re readily available to explain cultural differ-
ences, and help you navigate unfamiliar cultural situations.
LEARN FROM GLOBAL EXPERTS. EF ACADEMY TEACHERS WILL INSPIRE YOU WITH THEIR PASSION,
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERTISE AND INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE. NINETY PERCENT OF OUR FACULTY
HOLD MASTER OR PHD DEGREES. THEY SPEAK A COMBINED TOTAL OF 45 LANGUAGES AND HAVE
TAUGHT IN MORE THAN 50 COUNTRIES.

EF ACADEMY

EF ACADEMY
INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE
Our students encounter new cultures and beliefs in every
single classroom exchange. They don’t simply read about a
country’s current events, for example; they discuss its polit-
ical or economic situation in real-time with classmates who
are from the very places being discussed.
ENHANCED CRITICAL THINKING
Classroom diversity is actually proven to help students to
think more critically about the world and their place in it. It
will encourage you to become a self-motivated global citi-
zen of tomorrow’s world.
A GLOBAL SOCIAL NETWORK
The strong friendships that develop among students last
well beyond the classroom. Wherever you travel, study or
work in the world after EF Academy, you will always be able
to connect with a friend. So expect your social network to
go global.
TEAM SPORTS
Every campus offers the chance to compete in team sports
such as soccer, basketball, volleyball and tennis. That may
take the form of international tournaments organized by
our own student body, or school-sponsored teams that
compete against other high schools in the local community.
SOCIAL CLUBS
A great way to share your culture is to join one of the many
student-organized social clubs on campus. Our campuses
offer clubs for Art, Drama, Dance, Music, Photography and
Film. Outdoor adventure enthusiasts can also join clubs for
running, hiking, climbing, skiing and sailing. There are even
academic clubs for improving your language, math, science
skills or debating skills.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Students also take an active role in campus culture. Get
involved in student government. Write for the student
newspaper. Organize the senior prom. Or design the class
yearbook.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES
Our international outreach extends well beyond the perim-
eters of campus. Past students have actively participated
in esteemed international events such as the Global Young
Leaders conference in New York, the Global Leaders Sum-
mit in Shanghai, and the Hult Prize in New York.
NATIONAL AND REGIONAL COMPETITIONS
We strongly encourage participation in academic compe-
titions. This helps you connect with your host culture and
enhance your college applications. Recent competitions
have included the Duke of Edinburgh Award, UKMT Senior
Math Challenge, Climate Awareness Week, National Merit
Scholarships, Moody’s Math Challenge, and Tri-County Sci-
ence Fair.
COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERISM
Our students also forge strong relationships with the sur-
rounding communities. Become a big brother or sister for
special needs children. Volunteer in the Penguin House at
the local zoo. Or fundraise for the poor with a bake-a-thon
for the Lion’s Club and Red Cross.
BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS. GAINING A WELL-ROUNDED PERSPECTIVE — BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE
CLASSROOM — IS ESSENTIAL TO YOUR SUCCESS AS A WORLD CITIZEN. THAT IS WHY EF ACADEMY
CAMPUS LIFE INCLUDES INTERNATIONAL SPORTING EVENTS, SOCIAL CLUBS, ACADEMIC COMPETI-
TIONS AND CHAPERONED TRIPS. BESIDES, THE BEST WAY TO MAKE FRIENDS IS TO GET INVOLVED.

science laboratories, art studios, and student lounge and
study areas.
RESORT AMUSEMENTS AND AMENITIES

INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SECONDARY SCHOOL QUALIFICATION
IGCSE PROGRAM
AGES: 14 TO 16 GRADE LEVELS: YEARS 1 AND 2 OF SECONDARY SCHOOL LOCATIONS: NEW YORK, USA; TORBAY, UK PROGRAM LENGTH: 2 YEARS
IGCSE COURSES TAUGHT AT EF ACADEMY
OVERVIEW
The international equivalent of Britain’s GCSE program — the
IGCSE — is now a primary method of qualification for inter-
national students seeking success with the UK’s A-Level
exams, the globally recognized International Baccalaureate
(IB) Diploma, and the North American High School Diploma.
IGCSE students who enroll in the first two years of second-
ary school in either the USA or UK, also benefit from an
even more profound understanding and academic base in
these educational systems. It gives teachers two additional
years to understand your strengths and learning styles, and
groom you for university admissions.
THE CURRICULUM
Students select a core group of subjects (English, Math and
Science), as well as an elective group of subjects (foreign
language, humanities, information technology, and more).
Students choose their courses based on personal interest
and career goals. Because the IGCSE was specifically de-
veloped for international students, cultural awareness and
English language skills are also important elements of the
curriculum.
RESULTS
Students receive an IGCSE qualification for each subject
successfully completed. IGCSE students are externally as-
sessed based on oral and written exams at the end of the
program. A logical progression for most students is to con-
tinue on for two more years of study abroad to complete
our IB Diploma, A-Level Preparation, or High School Diplo-
ma program.
HIGHLY VALUED EXAM. THE INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (IGCSE) IS THE
GLOBALLY RECOGNIZED QUALIFICATION FOR STUDENTS AGED 14 TO 16, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO WISH TO BEGIN
THEIR EDUCATION ABROAD EARLY. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES EXCELLENT PREPARATION FOR A-LEVELS,
IB DIPLOMA, AND OTHER PATHWAYS TO UNIVERSITY.

FOR STUDENTS WHO SEEK A GLOBAL EDUCATION AND CAREER
INTERNATIONAL BACCAL AUREATE DIPLOMA
AGES: 16 TO 19 GRADE LEVELS: FINAL TWO YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL LOCATIONS: NEW YORK, USA; TORBAY AND OXFORD, UK PROGRAM LENGTH: 2 YEARS
OVERVIEW
The IB Diploma Program is an academically challenging and
balanced program for students in their final two years of
high school that includes a final examination to prepare
them for success at university and beyond. EF Academy’s IB
Program is unique in that it allows students to actually live
the internationalism they are studying. Students experience
new global perspectives and immerse themselves in cultural
diversity every single day by learning alongside students
from 75 countries.
THE CURRICULUM
The IB curriculum includes six subjects and three core re-
quirements. First, students take six classroom courses from
qualified IB teachers, ensuring breadth of knowledge in
languages, social studies, the experimental sciences, math-
ematics and the arts. In addition, the program has three
core requirements that challenge students to apply their
knowledge and understanding: the Extended Essay inde-
pendent research project, the Theory of Knowledge course,
and a Creativity, Action, and Service component. Hands-on
coursework is a prominent aspect of the entire program, al-
lowing students to gain an even deeper appreciation for the
subject matter they are studying. Students have organized
events for Amnesty International, built houses in Nicaragua,
and tutored students in their school communities.
RESULTS
Students take written examinations at the end of the pro-
gram, which are graded by external IB examiners. They also
complete assessment tasks throughout the two-year pro-
gram. Thanks to the IB program’s high academic standards,
students who sit the exam tend to achieve better grades
in their IB subjects and higher grade point averages over-
all. Universities around the world offer university credit to
those students who score highly on IB exams. That means
that successful IB candidates may complete university stud-
ies in less time than peers who studied an alternate univer-
sity preparation curricula.
GLOBALLY RENOWNED DIPLOMA. THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA (IB) IS AN INTERNATIONALLY
RECOGNIZED QUALIFICATION THAT PREPARES STUDENTS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDY. THE IB CURRICULUM IS
GROUNDED SOLIDLY IN THE CONCEPTS OF INQUIRY, INTERNATIONALISM, AND UNDERSTANDING. THANKS TO
EF ACADEMY’S UNMATCHED INTERNATIONALITY, OUR STUDENTS LIVE THE IB ETHOS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Students are required to engage in independent research through an in-depth study of a specific subject. The research culminates in a 4,000 word essay, preparing students for university-level research and writing.
THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE
Students are encouraged to each reflect on the nature of knowl-edge by examining different ways of knowing (perception, emotion, language and reason) and different kinds of knowledge (scientific, artistic, mathematical and historical).
CREATIVITY, ACTION, SERVICE
Students are required to activate their studies by completing creative projects or service ac-tivities outside of the classroom.
IB DIPLOMA COREThe IB curriculum also has three core requirements that challenge students to apply their knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
SUBJECT GROUPSIB Diploma students follow five courses of study, ensuring breadth of knowledge in languages, social stud-ies, the experimental sciences, mathematics and the arts.

FOR STUDENTS WHO SEEK ENTRANCE TO THE UK’S TOP UNIVERSITIES
A-LEVEL PROGRAM
AGES: 16 TO 18 GRADE LEVELS: FINAL TWO YEARS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL LOCATIONS: OXFORD AND TORBAY, UK PROGRAM LENGTH: 2 YEARS
A-LEVEL COURSE OPTIONS
OVERVIEW
This two-year program of study thoroughly prepares
EF Academy students in the UK to score well in the A-Level
examinations — a standard pathway for enrollment to most
universities in the United Kingdom. EF Academy counselors
help students choose the right combination of three to five
A-Level subjects to ensure the best chance of acceptance to
top universities in their field of study. For instance, prospec-
tive medical students choose A-Level subjects such as Biolo-
gy, Chemistry, and Statistics, while prospective law students
might study Politics, Philosophy, and Law.
THE CURRICULUM
Success in A-Levels requires a high level of English language
fluency and profound experience with British academic cul-
ture. Classroom learning is very hands-on, featuring class
sizes of just 15:1. Most A-Level courses follow four subjects
in the first year and three in the second year. Independent
study is a large part of the A-Level curriculum. Faculty mem-
bers assess students regularly to ensure success in this
challenging learning environment.
RESULTS
Subject assessments typically take place through exams
in January and June and may involve coursework or other
practical assessment. EF Academy teachers provide monthly
tests to gauge students’ readiness or their yearly A-Level
examinations.

EF ACADEMY069
OVERVIEW
Successful university candidates — especially those planning to study abroad
in the USA — need a strong academic foundation and a clear understanding
of the American educational system. Flexible in length, our high school di-
ploma can be earned in two, three or four years — depending on your age,
level of English, and academic studies to date. Our student body, world-class
faculty, rigorous academic philosophy and global outlook provide a unique
international mix of assets not available in high school back home. And the
value of a US high school diploma greatly helps with university placement
in America’s best schools.
THE CURRICULUM
All EF Academy High School Diploma students in Grades 9 and 10 follow our
rigorous IGCSE curriculum (see pp. 38–45). Students who enter the program
during Grade 11 have two options. They can either pursue the curriculum
for the International Baccalaureate Diploma (see pp. 60–61), or complete
a modified version of it that will result in the ability to graduate from high
school with recognized US diploma.
RESULTS
On successful completion of this program, EF Academy New York is autho-
rized by the State of New York Board of Regents to grant official high school
diplomas. Students also have the option of sitting for their IGCSE and IB
Diploma exams if they so choose. These credentials are globally recognized
and, in the case of IB Diploma, may also be applied toward university credit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT ARE THE MAIN ADVANTAGES OF ATTENDING
EF ACADEMY?
EF Academy is a boarding school that specializes in work-
ing with international students. With students from over 75
countries, we offer a global perspective that is unrivaled.
Our experienced teachers are committed to guiding each
student to his or her greatest individual potential.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL PRICE OF TUITION AND
MANDATORY FEES?
Meals, tuition, course literature, academic counseling, aca-
demic excursions, and accommodation.
WHAT ARE THE MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A-LEVEL
AND INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA
PROGRAMS?
Both are rigorous two-year academic programs that are rec-
ognized around the world. In general, the A-Level is ideal for
students who prefer to specialize in just a few specific sub-
jects. The IB is broad-based and is ideal for more well-round-
ed students. (see pp. 44–48 for more details)
IN WHAT WAYS DOES EF ACADEMY HELP STUDENTS
APPLY TO UNIVERSITY?
Advisers work individually with each student to develop a
thorough application strategy. This mentorship begins soon
after each student’s arrival on campus. We organize univer-
sity fairs and visits, and coach students about interviews,
applications, and aptitude tests, including the SAT’s. Most
importantly, we ensure that students progress academically
and achieve the best possible results on examinations. At the
end of the process, we offer advice to students and parents
about which offer to accept. (see pp. 20–23 for more details)
HOW DO I FIND OUT IF I MEET THE MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS TO STUDY AT EF ACADEMY?
Contact one of EF Academy’s admissions offices listed at the
back of this brochure.
WHAT IS THE STUDENT–TEACHER RATIO AT THE
SCHOOLS?
On average, we maintain a student-to-teacher ratio of about
15:1. Some classes are as low as 5:1.
WHAT TYPE OF INSURANCE DO I NEED TO ATTEND
EF ACADEMY?
Students must have complete medical and accident in-
surance. We recommend an insurance coverage offered
through Erika Travel Insurance, which has been tailor-made
for EF Academy students.
I WANT TO STUDY MEDICINE. HOW DO I ENSURE I WILL BE
ACCEPTED TO MEDICAL SCHOOL?
Medical School is highly competitive, and our university
advisers work with prospective medical students to ensure
they’re well positioned for entry into good programs. We or-
ganize informational sessions, perform mock interviews, ar-
range work experience at hospitals, and tutor students to en-
sure they’re prepared for the BMAT, UKCAT, GAMSAT, MCAT
and other aptitude tests. We also help students take advan-
tage of open days at hospitals and medical schools, and pur-
sue relevant work experience during schools holidays.
WHAT HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS ARE OFFERED?
Students have a choice of staying in residence or with local
host families.
HOW SAFE IS IT TO LIVE ON CAMPUS, AND WHAT
SUPERVISION DOES EF OFFER?
The safety of students is our primary concern. Our campus-
es are private, secure and monitored by staff 24 hours a
day. In addition, campuses are located in quiet residential
areas. In New York, we have 100 acres of private grounds in
the small community of Thornwood. In Oxford, our campus
is located in a neighborhood popular with university profes-
sors. In Torbay, students are surrounded by a quiet seaside
community. Dorm parents live on-site with the students.
