O Come Let Us Adore Him
The first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of a new year of Grace. In the Kingdom of God there is a whole (holy) different kind of time, one that centers not on the clock or the secular calendar with its division into months, weeks, and days, but one that directs our attention to various liturgical seasons, feasts, and memorials. The Advent Season consists of the four Sundays that precede the Feast of the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It’s main theme is Waiting in Joyful Hope. Just as Mary had to wait patiently for the Lord’s promise to be fulfilled in her. Unfortunately, most of the Christians among whom we live in Oklahoma have little or no sense of Advent because they are not liturgical churches. This leaves them with little choice but to go along with the secular Xmas season that begins after Halloween. Instead of Mary as a primary focus, Santa has to do. Instead of a season of prayer, it becomes a season of shopping. Catholics who get caught in this web often become burnt out on Christmas just as we begin the traditional twelve days of Christmas. This year’s Advent Season presents us with a challenge. December 24th is the Fourth Sunday in Advent and Christmas Eve. This means there will be Masses for Advent IV on Saturday evening and Sunday and Masses for Christmas on Sunday evening and Monday. So, this is how we’re going to respond to the challenge of motivating faithful Catholics to celebrate both important Festivals: We’ll have our usual 5pm Mass on Saturday the 23rd to observe the 4th Sunday in Advent. We encourage people who plan to participate in one of the Christmas Eve Masses to switch to Saturday for just this weekend. We will celebrate one Sunday morning Mass at 10am for those who may be coming to Christmas Mass on Monday at 10am or who don’t mind offering Mass on Sunday (Advent IV) and Sunday evening (Christ’s Birth). This only happens once every seven years and it always follows the year in which Christmas falls on Sunday as it did last year. For those curious about the Holy Day that occurs on January 1st (The Solemnity of Mary & World Day of Peace), when it falls on a Monday or Saturday the obligation to offer Mass is lifted. We’ll have just one Mass on Monday, January 1st at 10am.
Happy New Year

All Christians should pray regularly for all people who suffer from infirmities of every kind. But this list is intended for individuals who are acutely ill or facing surgery until they are back on the mend. Names will ordinarily be removed after 3 weeks, but if the illness persists you can call us and we will keep their names on for an additional three weeks.

Moms & Infants at Birth Choice
Developmentally Disabled Adults
at the Center of Family Love
Homeless People
at The City Rescue Mission
It may look like a Christmas tree, but that tree standing in the sanctuary is actually our Advent Jesse Tree. It is adorned with wonderful symbols taken from the Old Testament scriptures. Each one shows how Jesus is the long awaited Messiah—God’s anointed one. It’s easy to have your own Jesse Tree in your house. Just put up the tree, place the lights on it, add the symbols and there you have it. As Christmas draws closer, you can add the customary trimmings and ornaments, turn on the lights and voila—a Christmas Tree that announces the reason for the season.

JOURNEY OF FAITH
Wednesdays at 7pm:
December 6th , 13th & 20th
JOF is the process that primarily leads
unbaptized individuals through the Rites of Initiation which culminate with Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. It began on August 30th with the first session of the ALPHA course and continues—with breaks-- until after Easter.
JOF is also for Catholics who didn’t receive
Confirmation or Eucharist as children, or who are simply in need of updating their understanding of the faith so as to become more intentional disciples of Jesus. Finally, it is for Sponsors who will accompany all these inquirers on the Journey.
Dear Father Jack and our Family at St. Andrew’s. Our hearts are full of love and gratitude for the beautiful flowers you sent for our 74th Anniversary.
Thank you again and again, Eual & Rose McCrite

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING Wednesday, December 6th
7pm McConnell Room
For many decades now, the Catholic Church has worked diligently to make our churches and schools a SAFE ENVIRONMENT for all children. Providing such a nurturing environment results in our requiring all who work directly with children and young people in our parish—especially catechists, chaperones, and nursery workers. We also highly encourage all parents with children in religious education classes at all levels to become safe environment trained. If you volunteered to help with the children and have not been trained, you need the training first.

We conduct this one session program for members of our parish who are planning to baptize a child for the very first time. First time godparents are also welcome, but participation is optional. There are other expectations of parents who are going to promise to raise their child in the faith of the Church. Following this class, parents must contact Father Jack at least 30 days before the date you are requesting to see if there may be any special circumstances in scheduling the actual baptism. Child care is available upon request.
