performers spread their wings in a unique art auction & performance gala that honors Albuquerque Public Schools students and raises money for the stars of
tomorrow.
A is for Art! is scheduled for Sept. 20, 2013 at the
Hotel Albuquerque. Now in its fourth year, the event draws about 600 attendees and has raised nearly $65,000 for Fine Arts in APS and the
APS Education Foundation, which hosts the event. “Our dream has always been to make this event the place to be if you want to support public education,” said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. “I think we can say that kids, parents and community supporters have this marked on their calendars as a fun, entertaining and relaxing thing to do.”
A is for Art! features live and silent auctions of high school student
artwork from the annual APS Metro Youth Art Exhibit –
a professionally juried show of artwork in a variety of media. In
addition, singers, dancers and musical performers will entertain the au-dience in a variety of formats.
Students who agree to sell their artwork receive 40 percent of the
proceeds, with the remainder split between the Foundation and the APS Fine Arts Department so that they may support mu-sic and art programs within the state’s largest school district. APS art teachers also place their work into the show. About 200 pieces are expected in this year’s auction, including jewelry, sculpture, paintings, Photography, metalwork and ceramics. In most cases, you’ll think a professional created it -- and if you buy, a Professional did.
