From the Math Department

Graphing calculators are required for all courses beginning with Algebra 2. The math department supports the use of the following two calculators: The TI-84 (any ver-sion) is suitable for use in any math course and can be purchased at many retail lo-cations. Advanced math students may appreciate the power of the TI-Nspire CAS. (Make sure it is the CAS version.) This calculator is now available with a full color screen (the CX) and can be purchased online from http://underwooddistributing.com/shop/texas-instruments. Additional information can be found on the math depart-ment page of the Hackett web site

Picture Day will be August 28th. Stu-dents will be allowed to wear clothing other than their school uniforms on that day. All clothing should be ap-propriate for school.

Each student must fill out a separate form. Additional forms are available in the Main Office. Please complete the form, enclose payment and send with your student on picture day. Seniors do not need a form unless they are ordering photos.

Please adhere to the following guidelines:

Seniors need a photo for their school ID. No fee or form are needed. Sweat pants or pajama/lounge pants are not permitted. Shorts are acceptable during August, September, October, April, May and June, but they must be no shorter than 5 inches from the floor when kneeling. Tank tops or low-cut shirts are not permitted. All other guidelines as posted in the Dress Code regarding hats, shaving, hair, jewelry, etc. will be in effect. In all cases, the administration at HCP reserves the right of final determina-tion concerning proper student attire.

We Are Grateful to Our Parents and Friends for Sharing Their Priceless Gifts of Time and Talent!

Each year, more and more enthusiastic parents and friends volunteer and become involved in the mission and excitement of Hackett Catholic Prep. The HCP Community invites you to become involved in one or more of our wonder-ful parent organizations. You and Hackett will benefit from this rewarding experience. We strongly urge all parents to get involved, get to know your children’s friends, and make some new friends of your own! Begin by filling out the enclosed volunteer form and returning it to the main office.

Hackett Attendance Policy

Attendance Voice Mail381-2646 ext. 215

The following is a synopsis of the attendance policy at HCP. Please do not email absences. Please ask your student to take any notes to the office the first thing in the morning.

All-Day Absences

Parents are asked to phone the at-tendance office, 381-2646, Ext. 215 by 8:15 A.M. on the day of the absence. If a call is not received, the attendance office personnel will attempt to make parental contact. If contact cannot be made, and the student does not provide a note from a parent the following day, then the absence is considered “unexcused”. An “unexcused absence” results in a loss of credit in all classes missed and for all work performed that day.

Partial Day Absences

Parents are asked to phone in by 8:00 A.M. or provide a note indicating the date and time of an early dismissal. Please note that if a student is absent from a class for more than 10 minutes, the absence will count as missing the entire class. Since HCP is a closed-campus, students are not allowed to leave school for lunch.

Vacations

While vacations are discouraged during the school year, we realize that at times it may be necessary to miss classes. The school should be contacted at least two school days in advance of the extended absence. A prearranged absence form is then sent to all of the student’s teach-ers allowing them an opportunity to assign work or schedule a test that may be given during the absence time. Please be sure to check your students attendance record before planning a vacation.

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! We hope you have each had a good summer and are ready to start another exciting year! We welcome all new students to our Hackett family. The first day of school is Tuesday, August 25th.

Class Schedules

Schedule change forms are available in the Guidance or Main Office. These forms must be filled out and signed by both the student and parent. Return your completed form to the Guidance Department with the $25.00 schedule change fee. The last day to change a schedule for the first semester will be Friday, August 28th.

College Visits

Each year, Hackett Catholic Prep hosts many in-house “college visits”. Col-lege/university admissions representa-tives visit HCC, during the school day, to speak about their college or univer-sity with our junior and senior students. Students will only be allowed to attend three visits during the school year. Please help your student choose the college visits which will be most benefi-cial to them. It is the student’s respon-sibility to make up all work missed dur-ing the visit. A calendar of these visits is posted and updated in the Guidance Office and on the HCP website, as they are scheduled. To attend, students must sign-up, 24 hours in advance, in Mrs. Ulbrich’s office.

Additionally, most colleges/universities host “campus visits” at various times throughout the year, especially in the fall and spring. We post this informa-tion to the HCP Daily Announcements, online, along with scholarship oppor-tunities. Hackett students are allowed

3 excused absences for college visits during the 2nd semester of their junior year and 1st semester of their senior year. These absences are not included in their total for the semester, but they must be prearranged. Prearranged ab-sence forms are available in the Main Office.

The Guidance Office and the Library/Media Center also house many college admission reference materials includ-ing: “The College Board Book of Ma-jors”, Peterson’s “Four Year Colleges”, Kaplan’s “ACT Prep” and Kaplan’s “The Procrastinators Guide to the ACT”.

College Applications

Attention seniors! Now is the time to start applying to college(s)! For instruc-tions on how to apply, seniors should refer to their copy of the “HCP Col-lege Planner”, which was distributed to them their junior year. College ap-plications are available on-line; a few are available in the Guidance Office. If you choose to apply on-line, “save” and print a copy of your application be-fore pressing send/submit. Bring this copy to the Guidance Office when you request that your required official tran-script be sent (through

Parchment/Docufide) to the appropri-ate college/university. If you choose to apply on paper, please bring your actual application to the Guidance Of-fice. Always allow two weeks for each application to be processed. Be aware of your deadlines! Your goal should be to have all of your college applications completed by October 31st!

Keep your resume updated!! Ask for teacher letters of recommendation ear-ly (If a letter is required.). Other impor-tant information to remember: 1) Know each college’s application deadline. 2) When applying for financial aid, do so as early as possible, as most schools follow a first come, first serve basis. 3) Be sure to take either test of choice, ACT or SAT, twice. Schools will accept your best scores. If you have questions about the college application process,

please contact Mrs. Ulbrich. HCP’s CEEB/School code is: 232174

The Common Application Online School Forms System

Remember, you may apply to any col-lege/university online by going to their individual undergraduate admission webpage and following their instruc-tions.

Seniors—while optional, if you have decided to apply to any of your col-leges using The Common Applica-tion, Inc. company, take note of the following! The Class of 2016 must submit all "Common Applications", on-line only! This is done by you, directly through the Common Application On-line School Forms System. Include all online forms, supplements, resumes, any required letters of recommenda-tion, etc.
