South Dakota Graduation Requirements

The Graduating class of 2018 and those starting HS

thereafter will be under the graduation requirements passed

by the SD Board of Education on August 20, 2018.

Personal Learning Plan• The SD high school graduation requirements, state that all

high school students should have a personal learning plan

with a minimum of 22 credits.

•Students create a personal learning plan using

SDMylife.com based on their interests and abilities

Language Arts Requirements:

• Four units of Language Arts- must include:

• Writing 1 unit

• Literature 1 units

(which must also include ½ unit of American Lit)

• Speech – ½ unit

• Language Arts electives 1.5 unit

District Language Arts Options 4 units of Language Arts – must include:

Freshman: Junior:

- English I - English III

Sophomore: Senior:

- English II and - AP English or

- Speech - English IV or

- Applied English*

Math Requirements:

• 3 units of Math – must include:

• Algebra I 1 unit
