DESCRIPTION

Problems happened on Sep 08 Air gap inside ScECAL can not be reduced. Drift chamber 3 has been broken. – After very frequent trip of positive HV on Sep-, leak current grows to large. Repair underway at FNAL, seems to be a problem of electronics? Constant term of energy resolution too large ? Linearity looks no good? LED system – Need to push re-init button on CMB slow control every time when we start the DAQ. – Pick-up noise observed on some channels which are located at specific position of frontend boards. – For some channels difficult to see pedestal-1pe peak separation in ahcGain run. A few (4-5) dead / noisy channels

Idea for next data taking at FNAL

Dec-14th 2008 ScECAL meeting@KEKS. Uozumi (Kobe)

Thing accomplished on Sep 08 running• We have collected enough data to evaluate fundamental

performances of ScECAL.– Response uniformity of extruded scintillator strips– Energy resolution– Linearity– Performance change with tilt angle (only 10 degrees)

• Successful combined data taking with AHCAL & TCMT– Both AHCAL and TMCT are working perfectly without any

fatal problems.• First look of the 0 run seems to be successful.– 0 mass peak observed.

• LED gain monitoring system (almost) successful– Still have some problems which needs to be debugged, but performance is OK for the first test system of gain monitoring.

Problems happened on Sep 08• Air gap inside ScECAL can not be reduced.• Drift chamber 3 has been broken.

– After very frequent trip of positive HV on Sep-, leak current grows to large.

Repair underway at FNAL, seems to be a problem of electronics?• Constant term of energy resolution too large ?• Linearity looks no good?• LED system

– Need to push re-init button on CMB slow control every time when we start the DAQ.

– Pick-up noise observed on some channels which are located at specific position of frontend boards.

– For some channels difficult to see pedestal-1pe peak separation in ahcGain run.

• A few (4-5) dead / noisy channels

Motivation for next data taking• energy scan at more energy points - 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 25, 30, 32 GeV - Both positive and negative beams available• higher energy pion (up to 60 GeV) data taking• Take more 0 data at more energy points• Position dependence of resolution / linearity• Tilt angle scan (20, 30 degrees)• Run with revised system

– DC3 back– LED system (not all the problems can be solved)– Temperature sensor

• Can take Adil into our group• Anything more?

Things we can NOT do

• Recover dead / noisy channels• Remove electronics problem with LED system• Reduce CAL thickness

Page 6: Idea for next data taking at FNAL Dec-14 th 2008 ScECAL S. Uozumi (Kobe)

Possible Schedule• Setup & LED commissioning … 7 days (without beam)• commissioning with beam … 2 days• MIP calibration … 4 days• Energy scan with electrons … 6 days• with pions … 4 days• Position scan with electrons … 2 days• 0 run … 3 days• Tilt angle scan … 4 days• Withdraw … 5 days (without beam)• Total … 25 days with beam

When ?• Sometime in Apr or May ?• May conflict with TILC09 (Apr 17-21th)…•Need to contact Erik by the end of January 2009.

Shift / Man-power

• 2 persons x 2 shifts x 25 days = 100 psd .• Mimimal requirement :– 4-5 (3-5 from ScECAL group) persons at FNAL– 2 persons on remote shift

• Need to set-up remote shift room in Shinshu ?• Who can join from Japan / Korea / others ?

If we will NOT take another data…

• Need to withdraw equipments sometime in next year– 2 persons x 1 week– Help from DESY ?

‘08 Sep running Schedule• Setup … Aug 17th – Sep 3rd (17 days)• Detector commissioning … Sep 4th – 8th (5 days)• MIP calibration … Sep 9th – 13th (4.5 days)• Precise strip scan with MIP … Sep 13th – 16th (3 days)• Energy scan with electrons … Sep 16th – 20th (4.5 days)• with pions … Sep 21th – 23th (2.5 days)• 0 run … Sep 23th – 24th (1.5 days)• Tilt angle scan … Sep 25th – 27th (5 days)• HCAL calibration … Sep 27th – 29th (3 days)

Collected datasets on Sep 08• Muon data for MIP calibration

– Taken with 20x20 trigger– 2.1M events collected– At least 7k of good MIP events on each strip

• Precise strip scan with MIP– To evaluate strip response uniformity of improved scintillator strip

• Energy scan data with e- and - – -32, -25, -16, -12, -6, -3, -1 GeV (-1 GeV is only for electron)– For electron runs, data collected both in central and uniform region .– 200 ~ 250k events collected at each energy, each position.

• 0 runs– Put iron target on beamline at 185 cm upstream from ECAL surface– Took data at -16, -25, -32 GeV with pion trigger, 300-400k events at each

energy• Tilt angle scan

– Tilt detector for 10 degrees– Take electron & pion energy scan data
