Achievements in 2010 Business Development
Customers
In 2010, Siemens VAI secured two major orders in the USA and in Brazil. In connection with stable business in China and India, the company returned to the growth path after the market downturn in 2009. Due to these two major projects, order intake in 2010 was highest in North and
South America, followed by orders from China and India. Orders from Europe including Russia were ranking third. The Business Segments Casting und Rolling, Electric and Automation as well as
Services further extended their share of the portfolio in 2010.
Organization
In 2010, Siemens VAI finalized restructuring in Europe. The decision to create engineering and manufacturing capacities in China und
India, opened up additional market segments worth approx. 5 billion Euro, which could not have been served from Europe.

Achievements in 2010 First Endless Strip Production Worldwide
Technology:Arvedi ESP (Endless Strip Production) technology is characterized by the production of hot-rolled coils in a thin-slab casting/rolling plant directly from liquid steel in a continuous and uninterrupted manufac- turing process.
Benefits: Less energy consumption
Major reduction in CO2 emissions
Casting of 80 mm thin strands at speeds in excess of six meters per minute
Hot-strip rolling down to a thickness of 0.8 mm
Strip dimensions meet the geometrical requirements for cold rolling, allowing
conventional cold-rolling process step dispensed for many industrial applications
