MEADE COUNTY AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Learn What’s New At The Meade County Fair At July’s Luncheon What’s in store at this year’s Meade County Fair

will be the topic of July’s luncheon for members of the Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce.

The speaker will be David Pace, the fair’s man-ager since 1994, who will talk about such things as changes in the fair’s program and improvements to the Meade County Fairgrounds.

The luncheon — catered by Home Plate Family Restaurant — will take place Thursday, July 21, be-ginning at noon at the Farm Bureau Community

Dean Hobbs, left, and Lee Richardson took home the $500 prize that went to winners of the Senior Division.

Jeff Dawson, left, and Lincoln Lawrence took home the $500 prize that went to winners of the Championship Division.

Last Year’s Winners Repeat At 25th Annual Golf Scramble Winners of the Championship Division and Sen-

ior Division of last year’s Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce annual golf scramble re-peated their successes June 25 in the 2011 edition of the event.

Lincoln Lawrence, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Jeff Dawson, of Shepherdsville, shot a 62 to win the Cox’s Variety & Garden Center Championship Divi-sion, besting 14 other teams in that division that played at the Meade Activity Center.

Lee Richardson, of Brandenburg, and Dean Hobbs, of Hardinsburg, shot a 70 to win the Meade County Farm Bureau Insurance Senior Division in which 11 teams competed.

The scramble marked the 25th anniversary of the event, which was to have been played June 18 until heavy rain that morning – three inches fell on the golf course – forced a week-long delay.

Last Year’s Winners ... (Continued from Page 1)

who had other events scheduled for Saturday,” ac-cording to Russ Powell, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. “But the weather was unusu-ally good, and everyone had the usual great time.”

“Unfortunately, once again this year there was no winner of the $10,000 hole-in-one contest sponsored by Fort Know Federal Credit Union,” he said. “Maybe 2012 will be someone’s lucky year.”

Powell said that the number of golfers who play in the scramble year after year is evidence of its popularity.

“The support we get from golfers, sponsors, and the staff of the Meade Activity Center makes this event a success, and that, in turn, benefits the entire community by helping keep the Chamber of Com-merce a strong, thriving organization,” he said.

Winners of the Championship Division’s other flights in the blind-draw scramble were:

Brandenburg Eye Associates Second Flight – Adam Wein and Austin Baker, both of Clarksville, Indiana, with a score of 69.

Brandenburg Pharmacy Care / First Federal Savings Bank / US Auction Group Third Flight – Mike Trent, of Brandenburg, and Robert Knott, of Ir-vington, with a score of 72.

McDonald’s of Brandenburg / Meade County RECC Fourth Flight – Keith Daub and Ryan Daub, both of Brandenburg, with a score of 75.

Winners of the Senior Division’s other flights in the blind-draw scramble were:

Brandenburg Eye Associates Second Flight – Chuck Eley, of Brandenburg, and Larry Bradley, of Vine Grove, with a score of 76.

River Ridge Marathon / The Lusk Group Third Flight – Chris Rose and Jackie Rose, both of Branden-burg, with a score of 79.

Winners of the nearest-to-the-pin competition for each hole were:

No. 1/10 – Jeff Dawson, of Shepherdsville. No. 2/11 – Dawson. No. 3/12 – Ed Gibson, of Louisville. No. 4/13 – The team of Vince Bradley and Sam

Morrison, both of Brandenburg. No. 5/14 – Gibson.

No. 6/15 – Taylor Kindervater, of Elizabeth-town.

No. 7/16 – The team of Bradley and Morrison. No. 8 /17 – Mike Trent, of Brandenburg. No. 9/18 – Chris Rose, of Brandenburg. The longest-drive competitions were won by Lin-

coln Lawrence, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, in the men’s division; Lloyd McCollum, of Brandenburg, in the senior men’s division; and Jackie Rose, of Branden-burg, in the senior women’s division.

The most-accurate drive competitions were won by Jackie Rose, of Brandenburg, in the women’s divi-sion, and Lee Richardson, of Brandenburg, in the men’s division.

The winning teams in the Championship and Sen-ior divisions each received $500, with $100 going to each team that won a flight and to each team or mem-ber of a team that won a competition.

In a two-person golf scramble format, each team consists of two players. After each shot, the best of the two shots is selected and both players play from that spot until the ball is holed. One team score is re-corded. Ties are broken on the scorecard starting at Hole 1.

Meade County Tourism is seeking volunteers to staff its booth in the Pride of the Counties exhibit at this year’s Kentucky State Fair.

Volunteers get free admission and parking — and the chance to meet people from across the nation — as they join the effort to showcase Meade County.

Two-person teams of volunteers will work shifts from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 1:30 to 6 p.m., or 6 to 10 p.m. begin-ning August 18 and ending August 28.

To volunteer to represent Meade County, call 270-422-3626 or email [email protected].

should be made by contacting the Chamber of Com-merce office at [email protected] or 270-422-3626.

“Our members always are eager to hear about what’s going on since the fair is our community’s sig-nature event,” says Russ Powell, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce.

“They appreciate David’s willingness to provide this annual update — and they look forward to the surprise or two he usually has in store to get people ready for a week of fun and excitement.”

This year’s fair runs July 23-30. Information about the fair is online at www.meadecountyfair.com.

The luncheon’s sponsor, Bluegrass Cellular, has been operating in Kentucky for more than 21 years, with 21 company-owned retail locations and more than 35 authorized agent locations.

A pioneer in the wireless field in the state’s rural areas, it was the first to offer digital cellular service to Central Kentucky in 1998.

Five regional telephone companies, that continue to be the sole owners today, started Bluegrass Cellu-lar: Brandenburg Telephone, South Central Rural Telephone, North Central Rural Telephone, Duo County Telephone, and Logan Telephone.

Information about Bluegrass Cellular is online at www.bluegrasscellular.com.

JULY 2009 PAGE 2

Brandenburg Eye Associates is the Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce’s Member of the Month for July.

The eye-care clinic was selected because of its support of the Chamber of Commerce and its growing level of involvement in the community, according to Chamber of Commerce President Vickie Bryson.

“Businesses that provide high-quality medical services are essen-tial to any community, and we’re fortunate that Brandenburg Eye Associates is among our members that delivers those services here,” she says.

Brandenburg Eye Associates — located to 732 High Street in Bran-denburg — is nearly two years old, the result of a merger between Dr. Carl Sydnor’s Brandenburg Eye Care and Dr. Brad Black’s Eye As-sociates.

At that time, the two said the merger would allow Dr. Sydnor and his team to offer an expanded array of services, including general eye care, cataract surgery, LASIK and vision-correction surgeries, retinal eye care and surgery, glau-coma diagnosis and treatment, and pediatric eye care.

But beyond the array of ser-vices offered, Dr. Sydnor says the success of Brandenburg Eye Asso-ciates is a result of “treating pa-tients like family members.”

Brandenburg Eye Associates July’s Member Of The Month

Members of the staff at Brandenburg Eye associates are, from left, Rashannia Early, Al-ison Allen, Dr. Carl Sydnor, Emily Kasey, and Sonya Whitworth.

“When you provide good ser-vice and care and treat people well, then any business will grow. And in a small community like ours, our patients tell their friends and neighbors about the good experience they had here.”

Additionally, he says, the practice is working to raise its profile in the community, citing:

The food drive that col-lected 4,000 pounds of non-perishable items earlier this year for the Meade County Clothes Closet & Food Pantry.

An arrangement with that organization allowing people to drop off donations at Branden-burg Eye Associates while it re-covers from the recent fire that destroyed not only its home on ByPass Road but its entire stock of food, clothing, and other items.

An agreement by staffers earlier this year to enter a float in the Meade County Fair parade for the first time.

Dr. Sydnor has been caring for the eyes of residents of Meade and Breckinridge counties for 21 years.

Dr. Brad Black’s Eye Associates has been helping the residents of Southern Indiana and the sur-rounding area improve their vision for 26 years. Currently, it has 14 of-fices in Kentucky and Indiana.

Drs. Black, Kris Pugh, and Cur-tis Jordan and their associates have been nationally recognized as in-dustry innovators, using their ex-perience to better the industry, and have been ask to speak nationwide, teaching and sharing their experi-ences with other doctors.

Dr. Black has served as a clini-cal advisor for several FDA trials, including one on a new Toric lens implant. He was one of the first surgeons in the nation to implant the highly specialized lens de-signed to correct high levels of astigmatism.

Office hours for Brandenburg Eye Associates are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thurs-day and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Its telephone number is 270-422-4241, and information about it and Dr. Brad Black’s Eye Associates is online at www.have2020.com.
