1.2 Safety Information

Read the instructions before operating and keep them nearby. Be sure to follow all directions in this manual and the EFOY Pro manual.

Do not open fuel cartridges. Do not use force to open cartridges and do not refill them.

Do not store and operate the unit and fuel cartridges at temperatures above 45° C. Keep away from heat and direct sunlight.

Store the unit where there is no danger of freezing, or use the automatic antifreeze feature.

Do not smoke when handling the unit or the fuel cartridges.

Keep away from heat and open flame. There is a danger of fire if methanol leaks out (i.e. following an accident, or if the unit or the fuel cartridge has been damaged). Keep away from open fire and make sure area is well ventilated. Small amounts of methanol which may leak out will evaporate without leaving any residue.

Keep unit and fuel cartridges (including empty or partially filled cartridges) out of children’s reach.

Operate the unit only in accordance with instructions and keep operating area well ventilated. Do not block exhaust. Avoid inhaling exhaust fumes directly or for prolonged periods of time.

In addition to these safety instructions, please observe the passages in bold type. Otherwise, you may endanger yourself and others.

The EFOY ProCube may only be used in combination with 12 V lead batteries that conform to the specifications of the EFOY Pro Series fuel cells.

The unit can be used according the specification for stationary and mobile operation in vehicles. Operate only with original-equipment EFOY fuel cartridges.

Do not operate unit if housing is damaged.

3.1 Remote Control

The first line indicates the operating mode selected, such as “Automatic“.

The second line of the display provides information about normal operation, errors or malfunctions.

Automatic operation

As soon as you connect the unit to the battery and after every reset the unit will start the automatic operation mode.

The unit monitors the battery voltage and starts charging as soon as the battery voltage drops bellow a defined threshold. It will stop charging as soon as the battery voltage exceeds the defined switch off threshold.

The thresholds for automatic charging can be modified with a computer – see Computer Interface Adapter user manual.

Switching On manually

Press on the control panel once if the unit has been switched off, and twice if it is operating in automatic mode. The unit will start up regardless of the battery voltage and will continue charging until it reaches the switch-off point.

The device will then switch to automatic mode by itself.

This function is only possible when the battery voltage is below 13.2V.

Switching Off manually

Press on the remote control to switch off the device.

Please note that the fuel cell will not charge the battery automatically if it is switched off. The unit needs to be switched on manually and can only start up if it is connected to an intact battery.

3.2 Connecting the Fuel Cartridge

When the cartridge is empty, “Please change fuel cartridge“ will appear on the remote control and the yellow light at the EFOY Pro and the remote control will blink. The cartridge may be changed while the system is running.

Unscrew the empty fuel cartridge and remove. Close each cartridge tightly with the cap after use.

Place a new sealed original-equipment EFOY fuel cartridge in the system (1).

Make sure the cartridge is fixed properly for mobile applications (2).

Only remove the childproof cap when the new fuel cartridge has been placed into the fuel-cartridge holder (3).

Screw the connector onto the new fuel cartridge.

Press reset on the control panel to extinguish the yellow warning light and the maintenance message

Connect the M28 fuel cartridge

The optional M28 adapter is required to connect the M28 cartridge to the EFOY Pro.

Connect the EFOY Pro fuel cartridge connector (1) with the M28 adapter (2).

Screw the M28 adapter (2) onto the M28 fuel cartridge (3).

Note:

Put the included orange belt (4) around the M28 cartridge and use it as handle bar to lift the cartridge in the fuel holder and out.

4.1 Cleaning

Switch off device before cleaning and unplug the battery connection cable.

The device is not watertight. Make sure that moisture cannot get inside.

4.2 Service

The unit is maintenance free under normal operating conditions.

4.3 Problems and Solution

Errors with text message

At the remote control the red and yellow light indicate a system error. The remote control additionally shows a detailed error message.

Press the reset button on the control panel AFTER the problem has been solved.

Please contact our sales partner where you have bought the product if you can not fix the error yourself.

System periphery error. Please contact the SFC partner where you have bought the product if the problem remains after a restart.

Please check exhaust hose

Check that the exhaust hose has been properly connected and arrange it so that condensation cannot form.

Errors without text message

Please check the following if the device doesn’t respond and nothing is displayed on the remote control.

Check contacts, polarity, cables and battery fuses.

Battery voltage is too low

Recharge battery.

Load disconnected by charge controller. Load will reconnect as soon as battery is recharged.

Over current / short circuit of load (load disconnected by charge controller)

Switch off load. Remove short circuit. Load will reconnect after max. 1 minute.

Battery voltage too high (>15,5 V)

Check if external power supplies overcharge battery. If not the solar charge controller is damaged.

Battery wires or fuses damaged

Check battery connection and fuses. Replace fuses if necessary.

5.1 Installation Space Requirements

Securely fasten unit and fuel cartridges when using in mobile applications.

Do not operate unit if there is danger of explosion.

Unit is not watertight (protection class IP 54). Make sure that no water can enter.

Make sure when choosing an installation space that the temperature ranges between –20° C and +45 °C.

The unit requires air from the outside and generates off-heat that needs to be conducted to the outside. Please take this into account when considering possible locations.

5.2 Electrical Connections

All work should be carried out by qualified technicians in accordance with technical regulations.

Improper connections or the use of wrong gauge wires could result in fire.

All wires must be properly insulated and have adequate voltage rating. All connections must be tight. The use of uninsulated wires and contacts is not permitted.

Temperature controlled fan

The installed temperature controlled fan is used to avoid heat accumulation inside the unit at higher temperatures.

The switch-on temperature can be adjusted with the thermo switch relay.

Charge controller

The charge controller protects the battery against overcharging by the solar system and deep discharge by the load.

Low voltage load disconnect

As soon as the battery voltage drops below 11.4 V the charge controller will disconnect the load.

Fuses

The fuses are placed inside the junction box and protect the battery and internal components.

Type of fuses: acting automotive blade fuse F1: battery fuse (15 A) F2: ventilator fuse (1 A) F3: GSM modem fuse (3 A)

5.4 Fuel Cell Installation

(1) Connect the off-heat flange to the EFOY Pro with the 4 screws.

(2) Place the unit onto the mounting plate. The interface has to be on the front side in the direction of the air openings.

(3) Connect the battery charging cable to the EFOY Pro.

(4) Connect the remote control connection cable to the EFOY Pro (socket “Remote Control”).

(5) Attach the exhaust hose to the port at the EFOY Pro.

(6) Move the EFOY Pro to the front. Put the mounting bar at the screws of the mounting plate.

(7) Move the mounting bar to the fuel cell and then to the right hand side. Adjust the mounting bar in this position with the two mounting nuts.

5.5 Battery Installation

Battery requirements

12 V lead batteries 40 -90 Ah with A-Terminal (pole)

Max. battery dimensions: 355 x 175 x 210 mm

Note: It is important to mount battery for mobile applications and transportation.

Installation steps

The battery holder is placed on a rail and can be adjusted to the battery size.

(1) Adjust the vertical position of the two bars accordingly to the used battery and fix them again with the screws at the bottom.

(2) Place the battery in.

(3) Tighten the 4 screws on top to fix the battery with the bars.

5.6 Fuel Cartridge Installation

The fuel cartridge holder is placed on a rail and can be adjusted to the fuel cartridge size.

Installation of M5 and M10 cartridge

The fuel cartridge holder should be in the left position so that the fuel cartridge is securely fixed by the holder and the left casing wall.

Fix the fuel cartridge with the belt for transportation and mobile applications.

Installation of M28 cartridge

The fuel cartridge holder should be in the right position so that the fuel cartridge is securely fixed by the holder and the left casing wall.

Fix the fuel cartridge with the belt for transportation and mobile applications.

5.7 Connect the Load and Solar

The load and the optional solar array are connected to the installed solar charge controller. Use the cable feedthrough at the back of the unit to feed in the load and solar array connection cables.

Charge controller connections

(1) Open the terminal lid.

(2) Remove the screws from the strain relief and take off the strain relief bridges.

(3) Connect load Connect the wires leading to the load with correct polarity.

(4) Connect solar array (optional) Connect the wires leading to the solar array with correct polarity. Notes: It is recommended to adjust the switching

thresholds of the EFOY Pro for automatic battery charging when operated in combination with solar. The fuel cell should in that case only switch on if solar alone can not provide enough energy to supply the load (e.g. in winter times).

Place the positive and negative wire close to each other to minimize electromagnetic effects.

If any grounding is required, always do this on the negative wires.

(5) Fasten the strain relieves and close the terminal lid again.

6.1 Fuel Cartridge Sensor FS1

The optional fuel cartridge sensor FS1 monitors the level of the fuel cartridge and indicates if the fuel level drops below the position where the fuel cartridge sensor is positioned at the fuel cartridge. This early warning gives the user time to change the cartridge before it is completely empty and the fuel cell stops.

This sensor should be combined with a remote management system – e.g. the GSM modem GSM-2.

The FS1 is mounted with two screws at the fuel cartridge holder. There are two different levels available to mount the FS1.

The FS1 sensor is connected to the EFOY Pro data interface.

6.2 GSM modem

Functionality

The optional GSM modem allows to control and configure the EFOY Pro remotely. It is recommended to use such a solution if the EFOY Pro is installed remotely.

Installation

The GSM-2 modem is mounted on the DIN rail.

The included antenna is sufficient if the GSM signal strength is good at the location. It is possible to use an external antenna if required (use cable feedtrough at the back).

1.2 Sicherheitshinweise

Lesen Sie die Bedienungsanleitung vor der Inbetrieb-nahme und bewahren Sie die Bedienungsanleitung beim Gerät auf. Befolgen Sie alle Hinweise in dieser Bedie-nungsanleitung.

Die Tankpatrone darf nicht gewaltsam geöffnet oder nachgefüllt werden. Änderungen gefährden die Sicher-heit und führen zum Verlust der Betriebserlaubnis und dem Erlöschen der Gewährleistung und der Garantie. Verwenden Sie nur Original EFOY Zubehör.

Gerät und Tankpatronen nicht bei Temperaturen über 45 °C lagern oder betreiben. Vor Hitze und Sonnenein-strahlung schützen.

Lagern Sie das ausgeschaltete Gerät frostfrei oder verwenden Sie die Frostschutz-Automatik.

Beim Umgang mit dem Gerät oder den Tankpatronen nicht rauchen.

Von Heiz- und Zündquellen fernhalten.

Ist Methanol ausgetreten, besteht Brandgefahr (z. B. nach einem Unfall oder bei Beschädigung des Geräts oder der Tankpatrone). Zündquellen fernhalten und gut lüften. Ausgelaufenes Methanol in geringen Mengen verdunstet rückstandsfrei.

Gerät und Tankpatronen – auch leere bzw. teilentleerte Tankpatronen - von Kindern fernhalten.

Gerät nur gemäß Installationsanweisung und in gut belüfteter Umgebung betreiben. Die Abgase müssen aus dem Einbauraum ungehindert in die Außenluft abgeführt werden. Abgase nicht direkt oder dauerhaft einatmen.

Drücken Sie auf der Fernbedienung zwei Sekunden lang die Taste >> . Die Fernbedienung zeigt danach die eingestellte Sprache an.

Tippen Sie die Taste >> so oft, bis die gewünschte Sprache angezeigt wird.

Halten Sie danach die Taste >> erneut zwei Sekun-den lang gedrückt, damit die gewünschte Sprache verwendet wird.

Automatikbetrieb

Sobald Sie das Gerät an die Batterie anschließen und nach jedem Reset, startet der Automatikbetrieb.

Das Gerät überwacht dabei die Batteriespannung selbstständig und startet bei Unterschreitung einer eingestellten Einschaltschwelle automatisch den Batterieladebetrieb. Bei Erreichung der eingestellten Ausschaltschwelle wird der Ladevorgang beendet.

Die Ladeschwellen lassen sich mit einem Computer individuell einstellen - siehe Beschreibung Computer Interface Adapter.

Manuell einschalten

Drücken Sie hierfür die Taste an der Fernbedienung einmal, falls das Gerät ausgeschaltet ist, bzw. zweimal, falls es im Automatikbetrieb ist. Das Gerät läuft unab-hängig von der Batteriespannung an und lädt die Batterie bis zum Erreichen der Ausschaltschwelle.

Danach schaltet das Gerät selbstständig in den Auto-matikbetrieb.

Diese Funktion ist nur bei einer Batteriespannung unterhalb von 13,2 V möglich.

Manuell ausschalten

Drücken Sie die Taste an der Fernbedienung, um das Gerät auszuschalten.

Bitte beachten Sie: im ausgeschalteten Zustand lädt die EFOY Pro die Batterie nicht automatisch. Das Gerät muss manuell wieder eingeschaltet werden und kann nur starten, wenn es an eine intakte Batterie ange-schlossen ist.

Bei leerer Tankpatrone erscheint auf der Fernbe-dienung der Text „Bitte Tankpatrone wechseln.“ Die Tankpatrone kann bei laufendem Gerät gewechselt werden.

Schrauben Sie den Tankpatronenanschluss von der leeren Tankpatrone ab und entnehmen Sie die leere Tankpatrone. Verschließen Sie jede Tankpatrone nach Gebrauch fest mit der Verschlusskappe.

Setzen Sie eine neue, volle, verschlossene Original EFOY Tankpatrone ein (1).

Befestigen Sie diese ausreichend bei einem mobilen Einsatz (2).

Entfernen Sie die kindersichere Verschlusskappe erst, wenn die neue Tankpatrone eingesetzt ist (3).

Schrauben Sie den Tankpatronenanschluss auf die neue Tankpatrone.

Drücken Sie die Taste reset der Fernbedienung. Dies ist nach einer Fehlermeldung unbedingt notwendig damit die EFOY Pro wieder startet.

M28-Tankpatrone anschließen

Die M28-Tankpatrone kann nur über den optionalen M28-Adapter angeschlossen werden.

Schrauben Sie den M28-Adapter (2) an den Tankpatronenanschluss der EFOY Pro (1).

Schrauben Sie den M28-Adapter (2) auf die M28-Tankpatrone (3).

Hinweis:

Befestigen Sie den mitgelieferten orangefarbenen Gurt um die M28-Tankpatrone und benutzen Sie diesen als Griff um die Tankpatrone einzusetzen und herauszuheben.

4.1 Reinigung

Schalten Sie das Gerät vor der Reinigung aus und ziehen Sie das Anschlusskabel von der Batterie ab.

Das Gerät ist nicht wasserdicht. Achten Sie darauf, dass keine Feuchtigkeit in das Gerät eindringen kann.

4.2 Service

Bei normalen Einsatzbedingungen ist das Gerät war-tungsfrei.

Wenn Sie einen Fehler nicht mit Hilfe dieser Bedienungsanleitung beheben können, dann wenden Sie sich bitte an unseren Vertriebspartner bei dem Sie das Gerät gekauft haben.

4.3 Fehlerbehebung

Fehler mit Textmeldung

Am Gerät und an der Fernbedienung leuchtet bei Störungen ein rotes bzw. gelbes Licht auf. Die Fernbedienung gibt zusätzlich einen Hinweis zur Ursache der Störung.

Drücken Sie NACH dem Beheben der Ursache die Taste reset der Fernbedienung.

Bitte nehmen Sie Kontakt mit dem SFC Partner auf bei dem Sie das Gerät gekauft haben, wenn Sie den Fehler nicht selbst beheben können.

Die Umgebungstemperatur ist zu warm. Das Gerät startet automatisch, sobald die Temperatur wieder gefallen ist.

Bitte überprüfen Sie die Batteriespannung. Ist diese zu niedrig, dann laden Sie die Batterie bitte mit einem Batterieladegerät.

Automatischer Neustart

Das Gerät führt einen automatischen Neustart durch – bitte warten.

Fehler ohne Textmeldung

Prüfen Sie folgende Punkte, falls sich das Gerät nicht einschalten lässt oder der Verbraucher keine Energie hat.

Ursache Lösung

Keine Batterie angeschlossen, Batterie falsch angeschlossen

Kontakte, Polung und Kabel prüfen.

Batteriespannung ist zu gering (Batterie ist tiefentladen)

Lastabschaltung durch Laderegler. Last schaltet automatisch zu, wenn die Batterie nachgeladen wurde.

Ggf. ist es notwendig Batterie nachzuladen, damit EFOY Pro starten kann.

Überstrom / Kurzschluss Verbraucher

Lastabschaltung durch Laderegler. Laderegler schaltet nach ca. 1 Minute wieder ein wenn Ursache beseitigt.

Batteriespannung ist zu hoch (>15,5 V)

Überprüfen, ob fremde Energiequellen die Batterie laden. Falls nicht, ist der Laderegler defekt.

Batteriezuleitung oder Batteriesicherung defekt

Batterie-Zuleitungen und Sicherung überprüfen, ggf. Sicherung tauschen.

5. Installati on

5.1 Wichtige Installationshinweise

Beim Einsatz in Fahrzeugen muss der EFOY ProCube unfallsicher befestigt werden.

Das Gerät darf nicht in explosionsgefährdeter Umge-bung eingesetzt werden.

Das Gerät ist nicht wasserdicht (Schutzklasse IP 54). Achten Sie darauf, dass über die Lüftungsöffnungen kein Wasser eindringen kann.

+45 °C

–20 °C

Achten Sie bei der Installation darauf, dass der zulässige Temperaturbereich für den Betrieb zwischen –20 °C und +45 °C liegt.

Das Gerät benötigt Zuluft und erzeugt Abwärme, welche nach außen abgeführt werden muss. Bitte beachten Sie dies bei der Installation.

Zuluft Abluft/Abgas

Die Luftöffnungen dürfen nicht verdeckt werden.

Den EFOY ProCube nur in aufrechter Position installieren.

Der Deckel muss sich nach oben öffnen lassen.

Achten Sie darauf, dass das Gerät nicht stärker geneigt wird als zulässig.

Neigung um die Längsachse: max. 35° (kurzfristig 45°) Neigung um die Querachse: max. 20°

5.2 Elektrik

Arbeiten an elektrischen Anlagen dürfen nur von Elektrofachkräften entsprechend den geltenden Vor-schriften durchgeführt werden.

Falsch verlegte oder falsch dimensionierte Kabel können Brände verursachen.

Alle angeschlossenen Leitungen müssen eine ausrei-chende Isolation bzw. Spannungsfestigkeit besitzen und die Kontaktstellen müssen berührungssicher sein. Das Verlegen metallisch blanker Leitungen und Kontakte ist nicht zulässig.

Temperaturgesteuerter Lüfter

Zur aktiven Durchlüftung der EFOY ProCube bei höheren Temperaturen ist ein temperaturgesteuerter Lüfter eingebaut.

Die Einschaltschwelle kann durch einen Drehregler am Temperaturschaltrelais eingestellt werden.

Laderegler

Der Laderegler dient zum Schutz der Batterie vor Überladung durch das Solarsystem und Tiefentladung durch den Verbraucher.

Tiefentladeschutz

Der Ladregler bietet einen Schutz der Batterie gegen Tiefentladung. Unterschreitet die Batteriespannung 11,4 V dann wird die Last abgeschaltet.

Sicherungen

Die Sicherungen für die Batterie und die internen Verbraucher sind im Sicherungskasten untergebracht.

5.4 Einbau und Anschluss EFOY Pro

(1) Schrauben Sie den Abwärmeflansch an die EFOY Pro an.

(2) Stellen Sie das Gerät auf die Montageplatte. Die Anschlüsse müssen nach vorne in Richtung der Luftöffnungen sein.

(3) Schließen Sie das Batterieladekabel an die EFOY Pro an.

(4) Schließen Sie das Anschlusskabel der Fernbedie-nung and den Anschluss „Remote Control“ an.

(5) Stecken Sie den Abgasschlauch an die EFOY Pro an.

(6) Schieben Sie die EFOY Pro ganz nach vorne. Stecken sie den Riegel auf die Stifte an der Montageplatte.

(7) Schieben sie den Riegel ans Gerät und dann nach rechts, um ihn zu verriegeln. Sichern Sie den Riegel mit den beiden Muttern.

5.5 Einbau und Anschluss Batterie

Batteriespezifikation

12 V-Bleibatterien 40 -90 Ah mit A-Terminal (Pol)

Max. Größe der Batterie: 355 x 175 x 210 mm

Es ist eine sichere Befestigung der Batterie für den mobilem Einsatz oder Transport notwendig.

Einbau der Batterie

Die Batteriehalterung ist auf einer Schiene befestigt und die Position kann damit flexibel angepasst werden.

(1) Verschieben Sie die Position der zwei Halter entsprechend der einzubauenden Batterie und fixieren Sie diese.

(2) Setzen Sie die Batterie ein.

(3) Befestigen Sie die Batterie, indem Sie indem Sie die die vier Schrauben oben festziehen bis die zwei Riegel fest auf der Batterie aufliegen und diese befestigen.

5.6 Einbau und Anschluss Tankpatrone

Der Tankpatronenhalter ist auf einer Schiene befestigt und die Position kann damit flexibel angepasst werden.

Einbau M5 und M10 Tankpatrone

Der Tankhalter sollte in der linken Position befestigt sein, so dass die Tankpatrone links am Gehäuse und rechts am Tankhalter einen Anschlag hat. Damit ist sichergestellt, dass bei Einsatz des Tankpatronensensors die Tankpatrone immer bündig an diesem anliegt.

Die Tankpatrone ist mit dem Gurt zu sichern.

Einbau M28 Tankpatrone

Der Tankhalter sollte in der rechten Position befestigt sein, so dass die Tankpatrone links am Gehäuse und rechts am Tankhalter einen Anschlag hat. Damit ist sichergestellt, dass bei Einsatz des Tankpatronensensors die Tankpatrone immer bündig an diesem anliegt.

Die Tankpatrone ist mit dem Gurt zu sichern.

5.7 Anschluss Verbraucher und Solar

Der Verbraucher und das optionale Solarsystem werden an den Laderegler angeschlossen.

Führen Sie die Anschlusskabel durch die Kabeldurch-führungen an der Rückseite des EFOY ProCube.

Anschluss an den Laderegler

(1) Öffnen Sie die Klemmenabdeckung des Ladereglers.

(2) Entfernen Sie die Schrauben der Zugentlastungs-Bügel und nehmen Sie dies ab.

(3) Anschluss Verbraucher Schließen Sie die Anschlussleitungen zum Gleichstrom-Verbraucher polrichtig an.

(4) Anschluss Solarsystem (optional) Schließen Sie die Anschlussleitungen zum Solarpanel polrichtig an. Hinweise: Es empfiehlt sich in diesem Fall die

Einschaltschwellen der EFOY Pro so anzupassen, dass diese nur einschaltet, wenn Solar alleine nicht genügend Leistung bereitstellt (z. B. im Winter).

Die Plus und Minus-Leitungen sollten dicht nebeneinander liegen, um elektromagnetische Effekte zu minimieren.

Die Erdung sollte, falls nötig, auf dem negativen Anschluss erfolgen.

(5) Befestigen Sie die Zugentlastungs-Bügel und schließen Sie die Abdeckung wieder.

6.1 Tankpatronensensor FS1

Der optionale Tankpatronensensor FS1 meldet, wenn der Flüssigkeitslevel die Position des Sensors unter-schreitet. Diese Tankreserve gibt dem Anwender die nötige Zeit für den rechtzeitigen Tankwechsel.

Der Sensor sollte mit einer Fernüberwachung z. B. über GSM-Modem kombiniert werd.

Der Tankpatronensensor wird mit zwei Schrauben am Tankpatronenhalter befestigt. Es stehen zwei verschie-dene Einbauhöhen zur Wahl.

Der Sensor wird am Dateninterface der EFOY Pro-Brennstoffzelle angesteckt.

6.2 GSM-Modem GSM-2

Das optionale GSM-Modem ermöglicht eine Fernüber-wachung und Fernsteuerung der EFOY Pro. Der Einsatz einer solchen Lösung empfiehlt sich beim autonomen Betrieb der EFOY Pro.

Einbau und Anschluss

Die Befestigung des GSM-Modems erfolgt mit der Halterung auf der Hutschiene.

Antenne

Die mitgelieferte Antenne ist bei gutem Empfang ausreichend. Alternativ ist eine abgesetzte Außenantenne einsetzbar (Durchführung des Antennenkabels durch die Kabeldurchführung möglich).
