Exclusive FeaturesGenerator/Utility Protection Sets24/7/365 power availability is critical forsome systems. On-site generationcapability is growing more and morecommon in many systems. All of the WLdigital electronic trip units allow thesystem designer to precisely tailor tripsettings for the most demandingrequirements. However, the 755 and 776trip units allow one set of trip settings fora fully loaded utility feed and with asimple contact closure, the trip unittoggles to a second trip set tailored toprovide optimal generator protection. Thewide range of settings allows the WL toprovide protection for a minimalgenerator capacity for only essentialloads, through full backup for an entirefacility. This dual utility/generatorprotection capability in a single circuitbreaker allows the system designerunparalleled, costeffective flexibility.

Extended Instantaneous Protection(EIP – Patent Pending Feature)

Another unique feature of the WL TripUnit, allows the system designer toachieve full selective trip coordination upto the short-time rating of the frame, while also allowing application of thebreaker up to the interrupting rating ofthe frame. EIP allows the WL breaker tobe applied up to the full withstand ratingof the breaker, for complete coordination, with a minus 0% short- time bandtolerance up to 85kA on Frame Size IIand 100kA on Frame Size III. Above faultcurrents of 20% higher than the fullshort-time rating, the WL breaker is selfprotecting, and the EIP function will tripthe breaker instantly to protect the frameand the system from these extremelyhigh currents, as high as 150 kA onFrame Size III. One added benefit is thatarc flash energy is greatly reduced in thishigh current region due to theinstantaneous trip response that EIPprovides.

Industry StandardsType WL switchgear with power circuitbreakers are designed, tested andconstructed in accordance with:

▪ UL 1558—Metal-Enclosed Low VoltagePower Circuit Breaker Switchgear

▪ ANSI C37.20.1—Metal-Enclosed LowVoltage Power Circuit BreakerSwitchgear

WL drawout circuit breakers are designedfor continuous operation at 100% of theircurrent rating without the need forexternal heat sinks, and are in accordancewith:

▪ UL 1066—Low Voltage AC and DCPower Circuit Breakers Used inEnclosures

▪ ANSI C37.13—Low Voltage AC PowerCircuit Breakers Used in Enclosures

Low Voltage SwitchgearType WL Low Voltage Metal-Enclosed Switchgear GeneralMain and Ground BusThe standard main bus is silver-platedcopper. Tin-plated copper bus is option-ally available. Vertical and horizontal bus bar utilize a channel shape design to maximize short circuit withstand capability and minimize heat rise. All bus joints include Grade 5 bolts and conical spring washers. Provisions for future extension of the main bus include plated joints and high tensilestrength steel hardware.

The main three phase horizontal bus is arranged vertically one phase above the other with edge-to-edge alignment to provide high, short circuit strength.Insulated main bus with isolated verticalbus is optional.

Vertical bus ratings available are 1600,2000, 3200, 4000 and 5000 amperescontinuous current. Horizontal bus ratings available are 1600, 2000, 3200,4000, 5000 and 6000 amperes. A neutralbus is furnished when specified, and canbe rated 1600, 2000, 3200, 4000, 5000or 6000 amperes continuous current.

A standard copper ground bus extendsthrough all sections. Cable lugs aremounted to the ground bus in each section.

Standard short-circuit withstand (4 cycle)and short-time withstand (60 cycle) busbracing is 100,000 amperes. Higher short-circuit withstand bus bracings (150kA and200kA) are available.

Load side runbacks for feeder circuits are copper construction, are insulatedwith sleeve tubing in the main bus area, and are supported by high-strength bus bracing.

Control and Communication WiringStandard control and communicationwiring is #14 AWG extra-flexible, strandedcopper type SIS. Terminations are madewith compression-type, insulatedterminals. Control and communicationwiring is installed and accessed from thefront of the switchgear structure. Eachbreaker compartment has a dedicatedhorizontal and vertical wireway.

For devices not having screw-typeterminals, pressure terminals are used.

InsulationThe insulation used is a UL recognizedthermoset material that has excellent heatresistance, flame retardance, dimensionalstability and low moisture absorption.

Circuit Breaker CompartmentsTypical circuit breaker compartmentsinclude primary disconnects, drawoutrails, secondary disconnects, vertical wireway, horizontal wireway and, if applicable, TOC switch operator, MOCswitch operator and associated inter-locks. Drawout rails allow the breaker to be withdrawn from the compartmentwithout additional extensions or adapters.Up to six (2 sets of three) currenttransformers for metering or relaying canbe mounted in each compartment.

A separate secondary disconnect accessdoor that is supplied with each breakercan be used to mount a variety of auxiliarydevices such as breaker control switches, indicating lights and pushbuttons.

wide. The HRG instrumentcompartment is 45" high and either19" or 24" deep depending onwhether the circuit breakers are fused. The HRG instrument compartmentwill house all of the high resistancegrounding system components eitheron the door or in the device bucketexcept for the grounding resistors.

(2) The grounding resistor assembly willmount in the rear cable compartmentof the switchgear on the runbacksupport posts. It will typically mountbehind the HRG instrumentcompartment where it cannotinterfere with feeder breakerrunbacks.

(3) In a typical Siemens HRG applicationwith a close coupled main breakersection, a general purpose instrumentcompartment takes up the Acompartment, the main breaker goesin the B compartment and the HRGinstrument compartment takes up theC & D compartments. An alternateHRG main breaker section can havethe HRG instrument compartment inthe A & B compartments, mainbreaker in the C compartment and ageneral instrument compartment inthe D compartment.

Switchgear Mounted HoistThe integrally mounted hoist, standard on walk-in outdoor and optional on indoor switchgear enclosures, travelsalong rails on top of the switchgear toassist in breaker handling.TOC and MOC SwitchesThe Truck Operated Cell (TOC) Switchprovides interlocking control or remoteindication of the breaker rackingposition. The cubicle mounted auxiliaryswitch or Mechanism Operated Cell(MOC) switch provides interlockingcontrol or remote indication based onthe main contact position (open orclosed).ShuttersThese provide protection against acci-dental contact with primary disconnects in a compartment when the breaker isremoved. Shutters automatically closewhen the breaker is withdrawn and arepadlockable and field installable.Key InterlockThis provides a mechanical means foroperating circuit breakers and otherdevices only when predescribed con-ditions are met.

Test SetA portable breaker test set is available asan option and supports testing the fullrange of functions and protectivesettings supplied with the breaker tripunit.Metering and Auxiliary CompartmentsCompartments are available to housedevices such as voltage transformers, metering, control power transformers, and supervisory devices.Instrument and Control Transformers Voltage transformers and control powertransformers are mounted in auxiliarycompartments. These transformers are protected by primary pull-out type current-limiting fuses and secondaryfuses. Current transformers are normallymounted on the compartment primarydisconnect studs where they are readilyaccessible. Miscellaneous

▪ Each switchgear lineup includes a breaker lifting device that is adjust-able for use with Size II and Size IIIbreakers

▪ An optional portable breaker hoist isavailable if the integrated breaker hoistand track is not specified

▪ A test cabinet is also available as anoption. The test cabinet is wall mountednecessary equipment for testing electrically-operated breakers that have been removed from the breakercompartment. The test cabinet doesn'tinclude or replace a breaker trip unittester

Low Voltage SwitchgearType WL Circuit Breakers GeneralRogowski Coil CT TechnologyA Rogowski coil is an ‘air-core’ toroidalcoil placed round the conductor. Thealternating magnetic field produced bythe current induces a voltage in the coilwhich is proportional to the rate ofchange of current.

The direct output from the coil is givenby Vout=M dI/dt Where M is the mutualinductance of the coil and dI/dt is therate of change of current. To completethe transducer the voltage is integratedelectronically so that the output from theintegrator is a voltage that accuratelyreproduces the current waveform.

Coil and Integrator:The combination of a coil and anintegrator provides an exceptionallyversatile current-measuring systemwhich can be designed to accommodatea vast range of frequencies, currentlevels and conductor sizes. The output isindependent of frequency, has anaccurate phase response and canmeasure complex current waveformsand transients.

Linearity:One of the most important properties ofa Rogowski coil measuring system isthat it is inherently linear. The coilcontains no saturable components andthe output increases linearly inproportion to current right up to theoperating limit determined by voltagebreakdown. The integrator is alsoinherently linear up to the point wherethe electronics saturates. Linearitymakes Rogowski coils easy to calibratebecause a transducer can be calibrated

at any convenient current level and thecalibration will be accurate for allcurrents including very large ones. Also, because of their linearity, thetransducers have a very wide dynamicrange and an excellent transientresponse.

Coil WindingWith a Rogowski coil it is important toensure that the winding is as uniform aspossible. A non-uniform winding makesthe coil susceptible to magnetic pickupfrom adjacent conductors or othersources of magnetic fields. We havedeveloped special machines for makingaccurate windings. Coils come in a rangeof styles including rigid and flexible coilsbut we have developed several othervariations to meet specific needs.

Output IndicationThe output from the integrator can beused with any form of electronicindicating device that has an inputimpedance greater than about 10kohmsuch as a voltmeter, oscilloscope, transient recorder or protection system.

Split CoilsSome designs of coil can be fitted onthe conductor without the need todisconnect the conductor. Most flexiblecoils can be fitted this way and it is alsopossible to build split rigid coils. Splitiron-cored devices such as currenttransformers are subject to appreciableamplitude and phase errors if the halvesare misaligned by even a small amount.Rogowski coils do not have thisproblem. Misalignment of the joiningfaces of a split Rogowski coil has only asmall effect on the amplitude and noeffect on the phase.

Electronic Trip UnitSelection Criteria for WL CircuitBreakersThe basic criteria for selecting circuitbreakers is:

Maximum Available Short Circuit at theinstallation point. This value determinesthe short circuit current interrupting

rating or short circuit current withstandrating of the circuit breaker.

Rated Current In which is to flowthrough the respective circuit breakercontinuously. This value may not begreater than the maximum rated currentof the circuit breaker. The rated currentfor the WL is determined by the ratingplug, up to the maximum frame rating.

Ambient Temperature of the circuitbreaker. This is usually the temperatureinside the cubicle.

Design of the circuit breaker.

Protective Functions of the circuitbreaker. These are determined by theselection of the appropriate trip unit.

Dynamic Arc-Flash Sentry (PatentPending) A unique feature of the WL tripunit allows the system designer toachieve lower levels of arc flash energyand delayed tripping for selective tripcoordination purposes.

Rating PlugThe Rating Plug is a replaceable modulethat enables users to reduce the rateddevice current for optimum adaptation tothe system; e.g., during startup of a plantsection. The Rating Plug should beselected so that it corresponds to therated current of the system.

Switch-selectable I2t or I4t CharacteristicCurve Improved Overload Protection.

The best possible protection is assuredwhen all protective devices in the systemare optimally coordinated. To achieveoptimum selectivity and coordination, thelong-time characteristic can be switchedbetween l2t and l4t, to improvecoordination with fuses or inverse relays.

Switchable Parameter SetsTo allow the protection to adapt tochanges in system needs such asswitching between utility and generatorfeeds, WL Circuit Breakers support ETUswith two independent parameter sets.Switching between the parameter setsoccurs in less than 100 ms and can bedone remotely or via a contact input to anoptional CubicleBUS module.

Dynamic Arc Flash Sentry (DAS)Laser Scanner SensorSIGUARD laser scanners are opticaldistance sensors which detect anymotion in a 190° working zone. Bytransmitting safe laser pulses and thenevaluating every reflected pulse, theyhave everything safely in view. Andwhen potentially hazardous situations doarise, they respond quickly and reliably.

They can be simply programmed usingeither a PC or a laptop which means thatthey can be quickly and flexibly adaptedto new requirements.

Unified, integrated communications viastandard fieldbuses can be implementedin a fail-safe fashion by transmittingsafety-related and standard datatogether. This means that also with ourSIGUARD laser scanners, you can enjoythe benefits of having just one buscoupling.

SIGUARD laser scanners LS4 – theadvantages at a glance:

▪ Hazardous areas can be contactlesslyand reliably secured with deviceswhich can be universally used: onmachines, production robots, conveyorsystems, vehicles etc.

▪ Standard versions with fail-safesemiconductor outputs

▪ Safe direct connection to AS-InterfaceSafety at Work

▪ User-friendly version with PROFIBUSPROFIsafe connection

▪ When scanners are replaced, parameters are automaticallytransferred via PROFIBUS

▪ Category 3 according to EN 954-1

▪ Up to 4 personnel protective and warningfield pairs which can be freely set

▪ Protective field with max. 4 m radiusfor personnel safety

▪ Extremely compact design

▪ Low current drain (approx. 300 mA)

Function DescriptionMode of operation

The SIGUARD laser scanner LS4 is ascanner which optically andcontactlessly scans areas – and which ispredominantly used for personnelprotection. The laser scanner generatesa continuous train of bundled lightpulses using a laser diode and an opticalsystem. An integrated rotating mirrordistributes these light pulses over thecomplete working area. If objects orpersons enter this field, then thescanner evaluates the reflected lightpulses and, using the light propagationtime, continually calculates the preciseposition coordinates. If the definedpersonnel protective field is violated, then it brings the machine to animmediate stop.

The operating range of SIGUARD laserscanners LS4 extends over 190° and issubdivided into angular segments of0.36°. The scanning rate is 25 scans persecond which means that a light pulse istransmitted every 40 ms into everysegment. A special algorithm ensuresthat objects larger than 70 mm – thiscorresponds to the scanner resolution –are reliably detected. However, it alsoensures that dust and other disturbingeffects do not have a negative impact onthe availability of the system.

SIGUARD laser scanners LS4 detectpersons – even when they are wearingdark clothing – in a safety-related fashionup to 4 meters away. Persons and

objects can be detected at a range of 15m, for example, to output a warningmessage (however, this is not safety-related).Flexibility already on board

SIGUARD laser scanners can be flexiblyadapted to every requirement using fourvariable protective field pairs forpersonnel protection and warning fields. These protective field pairs can besimply set at the PC. The SIGUARDlaser scanner can be used on stationarymachines and systems, but it can alsobe used for mobile applications mountedon vehicles, driverless transport systemsor trolleys. This means, for example, thatvarious operating areas of a robot can besecured where the laser scannerconsecutively scans the different areas.Using four programmable protectivefields, driverless transport systems canbe secured e.g., for fast travel, slowtravel, lefthand and righthand curves.Software for every application

It is extremely easy to precisely set thelaser scanner thanks to the LS4soft PCoperator software. The followingfunctions are integrated:

▪ Protective fields can be easilyconfigured using either a PC or laptop

▪ Additional functions such as protectivefield changeover, restart inhibit etc.can be configured using a softwareassistant

▪ Extensive range of displays – e.g.,defined protective fields, actual scancontour, system settings etc.

▪ Safe access protection usingpasswords with various authorizationstages

▪ LS4soft can run under MicrosoftWindows 95/98/2000/NT/XP
