THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!

Opportunities to support your Parish Did you know that in addition to Mass intentions for your loved ones you may remember them through the following memorial opportunities? • Floral Memorial at the Altar • Altar, Sanctuary or Tabernacle Candles • Meditation Garden Remembrance Bricks • A gift of cash, securities, or other assets to

OLMV.

Please remember Our Lady of Mount Virgin in your estate planning:

The generous bequests of parishioners and friends are critical to fulfilling the mission of OLMV Parish. OLMV provides outreach and pastoral and spiritual support to many who live on the edge of poverty and loneliness. These bequests also support and the maintenance of our beautiful church and grounds. Remembering the Church in your estate planning says something special about what was meaningful to you in your life time; it is a way to ensure that the parish community you value will continue into the future; and it’s a way to leave a meaningful and important legacy to those who will come after you.

PRAYER FOR FAMILIES Dear Lord, bless our families. Be so kind as to give us the unity, peace, and mutual love that You found in Your own family in the little town of Nazareth.

St. Joseph, pray for all fathers. Obtain for them the strength, the wisdom, and the prudence they need to support and direct those under their care.

Mother Mary, pray for all mothers. Help them to be pure and kind, gentle and self-sacrificing. For the more they resemble you, the better will our families will be.

Lord Jesus, bless the children of our families. Help them to be obedient and devoted to their parents. Make them more and more like You. Let them grow, as You did, in wisdom and age and grace before God and man.

A letter from Father David

Father David, Father Louis, Father Peter, Deacon John T, Deacon John C, Deacon Tom, Deacon Edgar, Mrs. Zmigrodski, Rives Casell and the parish staff wish each of you

and your families a happy, holy and healthy New Year !

Thank you Lord for giving me the brand new year ahead. Help me live the way I should as each new day I tread.

Give me gentle wisdom that I might help a friend. Give me strength and courage so a shoulder I might lend. The year ahead is empty; help me fill it with good things.

Each new day fill with joy and the happiness it brings. Please give the leaders of our world a courage born of peace,

that they might lead us gently, and that all fighting may cease. Please give to all upon this earth a heart that's filled with love;

a gentle happy way to live with your blessings from above.

Dear Friends, This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. It is a relatively new feast in the calendar of the Universal Church, being inserted into the calendar by Pope Benedict XV in 1921. But the cult of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph goes back hundred of years. More recently, veneration of the Holy Family has been promoted as a way to counter the general breakdown of the family unit. There are many challenges to the family unit that plague modern society, not the least of which is the rapid increase in the number of single parent households due to extra-marital births and a high rate of divorce, and the secular redefinition of marriage. Frequently, the rights and welfare of the children are overlooked in favor of the preferences of the parents. The Feast of the Holy Family is not just about the Holy Family. It’s about our own families, as well. The Feast presents the Holy Family as a model for us to emulate. The Holy Family faced challenges even before its in-ception. Joseph had to address the pre-marital pregnancy of the maiden to whom he was betrothed. Mary and Jo-seph had to reflect on the somewhat ominous prophecies of Anna and Simeon. When Jesus was yet a toddler, the Family had to flee to protect the Christ Child from the wrath of King Herod. Joseph and Mary had to deal with what we could only imagine to have been the most precocious child in all of history. And, finally, Mary probably lived several decades as a widow. These challenges reflect some, but not all, of the challenges faced by modern families. Our family life becomes sanctified when we live the life of the Church within our homes. The Vatican Council refers to the family as the “domestic church,” and so it is. It is hard to imagine a child being properly raised in the faith whose faith formation is dependent solely on an hour or two of religious education a week. Our Catholic religion must be lived and learned in the family, and nurtured by attendance at weekly Mass. As a parish, we can only help the parents. To the parents belong the responsibility of raising their children in the faith. Pope St. John Paul II promulgated the Apostolic Exhortation Familiaris Consortio following the 1980 Syn-od of Bishops. The text is available on line. I highly recommend it for your Christmas-time reflection. May God bless you and your families. Father David

EPIPHANY BLESSING

The weekend of January 5/6 we will celebrate the great Solemnity of the Epiphany, celebrating Christ’s mani-festation. It is traditional for families to bless their homes on the

Epiphany. Following the tradition of the Church, blessing kits will be available after all Masses on Epiphany weekend so that those who wish to may bless their homes with holy water and blessed chalk, invoking the intercession of the three Magi, Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. Instructions will be includ-ed with each kit. Please take advantage of this op-portunity to bless your homes for the New Year.

VEHICLE DONATION PROGRAM: donate a vehicle to help the less fortunate.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society thanks our parishioners for their support.

Donation cards can be found at the church entranceways.

God bless you!

PARISH REGISTRATION: In order to be considered a registered parishioner, all adults (persons 21 years of age or older) must complete a registration form. These can be picked up at the parish office. Please remind young adults (family and friends) that they must register with the parish. Once a person has reached adulthood (21 years old) he or she must register in person to be considered a member of the parish. To be eligible to receive sacraments or to receive sponsor letters, persons must be registered and active members of OLMV. ELIGIBILITY LETTERS FOR GODPARENTS AND SPONSORS: Canon Law requires that a person seeking a “sponsor letter” to serve as a godparent for the Sacrament of Baptism or a sponsor for the Sacrament of Confirmation be a Confirmed Catholic who is active in his or her parish and, if married, be in a valid, Catholic marriage. An “active” Catholic is understood to be a person who is registered, attends Mass regularly, contributes to the support of the Church and whose lifestyle is in keeping with the Catholic faith. They must ensure that their own school age children are attending Mass, are enrolled in religious education, and have received their sacraments.

OUR LADY OF MOUNT VIRGIN invites parishioners to become more involved in its

parish organizations. Please contact the Parish Office for more information:

The OLMV Knights of Columbus thank the Parish for its support of its first annual “Meet Santa Claus” held Sunday, December 16. Santa did a great job; and the children

and their families had a wonderful time re-ceiving gifts from Santa and enjoying Christ-mas cake, ice cream, cookies, candy canes, hot chocolate and coffee. Any OLMV men in good standing with the Church and interested in joining the Knights of Columbus fraternity, should e-mail Kevin Mazza at: [email protected]

Please note that our 2019 church calendars are still in production.

You will be happy to know that this year the calendars will feature pictures of our own church.
