Advice Column

By Alexis Thomas, Idayat Adisa, and Grace Asare

**I’m in sixth grade, and having trouble keeping up in class. How do I stay focused?

Sincerely,

Distracted

Dear Distracted,

Being distracted in class can reflect on your grades. Organizing your work station, and separating yourself

from people who are distracting you should allow you to focus more in class.

**People have been saying lots of mean things about me. What should I do?

Sincerely,

Bullied

Dear Bullied,

If you feel bothered, you should talk to a trusted adult. They can help ease the situation.

** I don’t do any clubs or activities after school and would really like to join some. What clubs do you recom-

mend?

Sincerely,

Bored

Dear Bored,

Newspaper is a great club to join if you like to write. Drama is over, but we really recommend joining it next

year. Also, there are seasonal sports like soccer, field hockey, basketball, track and more.

If you have any questions for which you need advice, please write it down

and put it in the box in the cafeteria. We’ll do our best to answer all ques-

tions!!

Nintendo Switch

By Amaya Bullock

It’s finally here! The new Nintendo

Switch! The game that everyone is talking about

is finally here! This new game system brings you

an experience that you’ve never seen before. Nin-

tendo Switch is a combination of the Wii U and

3DS. It allows you take the device anywhere, like

a 3DS. For instance, you can take it to a restau-

rant, the beach, and even on a plane! It is set like a Wii U, so that it can appear on

your TV. The games are as good as the system. Most of the games you can get up,

move, and react to your opponent. One of the games called 1 - 2- Switch, lets you

look at your teammate/opponent in order to play. This lets the players really focus

on each other then on strategies. Whatever game you play on this amazing system,

it will make you never want to stop.

Beauty and the Beast

By Nevaeh Muff and Maria Hannah

Beauty and the Beast was a great movie! It was very different from the

previous one. During its opening weekend, it hit the top of the charts! Emma Watson

played Belle; she was so pretty in the movie. We loved the dress that she wore to the

ball. Dan Stevens was an amazing character as the Beast. Bradley Pierce (Chip)

and Paige O'Hara (Mrs. Potts) had a great impact on the movie . One of my favorite

parts was when Belle found out how her mother died, with the

help of the Beast. It was so sad when she told her father that she

knew. When the Beast showed Belle the library, we thought it

was awesome, because Belle loves to read and never had enough

books in her village. This movie was very emotional; it made us

happy and sad at the same time, especially at the end. The moral

of this movie was that beauty is only skin deep. The things we

loved most about this movie were the setting and all of the char-

acters.

Drama Club Review

By Jonathan Lugo

Drama Club has begun. I am proud to say that I am a member of the cast, and I think that we’re doing great. The play is called, “The Mysterious Case of the Miss-ing Ring.” The Royal Ring has gone missing and the Royal Detectives will have to find it. Ms. Wooster and Mrs. Kleiner are our advisors, and they have been help-ing us memorize our lines and get ready for the play. As a cast member, I am expected to memorize my lines and perform on a stage

in front of parents, staff, and students. As you can imagine, this can be nerve-

wracking for the performers. A lot of time and energy goes into getting ready for

the play, so I hope it all goes well. Good luck to all who are in the play!

Guess That Player?

By Shawn Payne and Brandon McFadden

This player plays baseball in the MLB (Major League Baseball). He

plays for the Los Angeles Angels. Some people consider him the best in

the league (including us). Some consider him the best of all times, even

better than Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson. His position is centerfield.

He bats and throws as a righty. He is 6'2 and weighs 235 lbs. In his

career he has had 168 home runs. His is 25, and was born in

Vineland, NJ. He went to Millville High School. He has played in the

league for six years. Who is this player?

Your guess is: _______________________________

ENTERTAINMENT

Night World

By Ciera Browne

Night World is a series that includes three different stories inside each novel. Each story tells

about how different characters venture off into the “Night World.” The Night World is a secret society

that includes vampires, werewolves, and witches. The humans are oblivious to the Night World unless

they stumble upon it or become a vampire’s lunch. The stories are all different but very interesting. They

talk about how different characters deal with different situations. I like the one where a girl named Pop-

py got turned into a vampire. I’m not going to tell how, but it was a very heart-tugging story. This is

one series that I recommend.

grade, several years ago. She is married and has two boys, who are 15 and 8 years

old. This teacher lives in Clementon, has a cat, and is getting a puppy soon! Her fa-

vorite vacation spot is either the beach or the mountains. In her spare time, she is

usually driving her boys wherever they need to go. Otherwise, she likes reading, re-

laxing, and camping. Her favorite book is The Outsiders and her favorite movies are

Stand by Me and The Sandlot. Her favorite saying is “It is what it is.”

Spring Recipe Easter Bunny Cake By Kareem Woods

6 cups confectioners' sugar

3 sticks (12 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature Pinch fine salt 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract 2 to 3 tablespoons milk 2 baked 9-inch round cake layers (your favorite recipe or an 18.25-ounce boxed cake mix) 1 1/4 cups sweetened flaked coconut 2 store-bought biscotti 1 tube pink decorating icing 2 black jelly beans 2 marshmallows 1 white jelly bean, halved lengthwise 1 pink jelly bean 1 black licorice wheel, such as Haribo Directions

1. For the frosting: Combine the sugar, butter and salt in the bowl or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment (or in a

large bowl if using a hand-held electric mixer). Mix on low speed until mostly incorporated. Add the vanilla, increase the speed

to medium high and mix until smooth. Adjust the consistency with milk until the frosting is easy to spread.

2. For the bunny: Spread a thin layer of frosting (about 2/3 cup) on the flat side of one cake layer and top with the flat side of the

second cake layer. Measure 5 inches across the top of the cake and cut down through the layers, creating 2 layered pieces that

are slightly different sizes.

3. Place the larger piece of cake cut-side down on a large platter or cake board. If using a rectangular cake board, place the larg-

er piece so that the long edges are parallel with the long edges of the board. This is the body of the bunny. Cut the smaller piece

of cake in half crosswise, so you have 2 layered wedges. Place one wedge in front of the body, with one flat side on the board

and the other flat side against the body. The curved side will be on top. Take a serrated knife and round off the sharp edges on

top of the head. Cut the tip off (the nose) at a 45-degree angle. Reserve all scraps in a bowl.

4. Separate the layers of the remaining wedge of cake. These will be the back legs. Round the sharp edges of the cake wedges

with your knife and add to the scrap bowl. Place one piece on each side of the bunny, with one flat side down and the other flat

side facing forward (the round side towards the back of the bunny), about 1 inch from the end of the bunny's body.

5. Mix the cake scraps in the bowl with a fork until mashed and then pack into a ball with your hands. Place the ball behind the

bunny's body and adhere with a dab of frosting. This is the bunny's tail.

6. Frost the entire bunny, tail and all, using 2 to 3 cups of the frosting, keeping some definition with the bunny parts and frosting

more generously around any sharp edges to give a rounded look to the bunny parts. Sprinkle the bunny with the coconut to fully

cover. Gently pat to adhere.

7. Insert the biscotti between the head and body, pressing into the cake to secure them. These are the ears. Place the base of the

ears close together at the center of the head and angle them out. Frost the front of each biscotti with some frosting. Then, using

the pink decorating icing, frost a smaller strip in the center of each biscotti, going down to where the ears meet the head but not

going all the way to the top.

8. Using the remaining ingredients, decorate to create a personal bunny.

The History of PI Day

By Emily Williams, Fallon Wells, and Alexis Bozella

The history of Pi Day is actually pretty interesting. The ancient Babylonians

calculated the area of a circle, taking three times the square of its radius.

One Babylonian tablet says a value of 3.125 for Pi. The ancient Egyptians

calculated the area of a circle by a formula that gave the approximate val-

ue of 3.1605 for Pi instead. One of the greatest mathematicians in the

world Archimedes, of Syracuse, actually calculated Pi first. He did this by

using the Pythagorean Theorem to find the areas of two rectangular poly-

gons. Archimedes knew he had not found the exact value of PI but only an

approximation within those limits.

Why PI Day is Important

March 14 is chosen as the day to celebrate Pi, because the numerical date, 3/14, represents the first 3

digits of Pi. To this date, Pi has been calculated out to more than one trillion decimal places, and mathemati-

cians continue to calculate further digits.

Did you know that it is also the anniversary of Albert Einstein's birthday, March 14?

How Pi Day was this year

This year Pi day was excellent. We had a contest to see who could recite the most digits of Pi, students

could bring in pies, and the students were able to try these different pies. Gabrielle Hoeger recited 92

digits of pi, the most in sixth grade. This year’s Pi day was amazing, and we hope next year will be the

same.

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT

By Joseph Larsen Star Wars Battlefront is a fun game to play online and multiplayer, but there is more to it than a pic-ture and what it looks like. First of all, there are Rebels and Imperials. There are more weapons and heroes. The heroes are Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo. The other heroes that are villains are Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and Boba Fett. It’s a fun game, especially if you are a Star Wars fan!
