32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Theme: Relying on God’s premise that we shall be raised.
This week we are giving the hope to continue to live and hope for a better life when
our pilgrimage in this present world comes to an end. Both the first reading and the
Gospel speak to us about death and new life. They tell us how we, Christians, should
not let our eyes deceive us. We are invited to look again at what we believe about
death and life after death.
In the first reading, we meet seven brothers who are arrested during a persecution
against the Jews. The pagan king tries to force them to do something against the
Jewish law—God’s law given to them by Moses. One after the other, the brothers
say that they are ready to die rather disobey God’s commandments. Let us hear their
words: “You may discharge us from this present life, but the king of the world will
raise us up, since it is for his laws that we die to live again”.
The next one spoke in the same way: “It was heaven that gave me these limbs (this
body); for the sake of his laws, I disdain them (agree to lose them); from him (God) I
hope to receive them again”
The fourth brother, also being tortured, spoke with the same strength and the same
belief. “Ours is the better choice to meet death at men’s hands yet relying on God’s
promise that we shall be raised up by him.” (Continued on page 3)

Tema: Confiar en la promesa de Dios de que seremos resucitados.
Esta semana estamos dando la esperanza de continuar viviendo y esperamos una
vida mejor cuando nuestra peregrinación en este mundo actual llegue a su fin. Tanto
la primera lectura como el Evangelio nos hablan de la muerte y de la nueva vida.
Nos dicen cómo nosotros, los cristianos, no debemos dejar que nuestros ojos nos
engañen. Estamos invitados a mirar nuevamente lo que creemos acerca de la muerte
y la vida después de la muerte.
En la primera lectura, nos encontramos con siete hermanos que son arrestados duran-
te una persecución contra los Judíos. El rey pagano trata de obligarlos a hacer algo
en contra de la ley judía, la ley de Dios dada a ellos por Moisés. Uno tras otro, los
hermanos dicen que están listos para morir más bien desobedecer los mandamientos
de Dios. Oigamos sus palabras: "Podéis librarnos de esta vida presente, pero el rey
del mundo nos levantará, porque es por sus leyes que morimos para vivir otra vez".
El siguiente habló de la misma manera: "Fue el cielo el que me dio estas extremida-
des (este cuerpo); Por el bien de sus leyes, los desprecio (estoy de acuerdo en perder-
los); de Él (Dios) espero volver a recibirlos "
El cuarto hermano, también siendo torturado, habló con la misma fuerza y la misma
creencia. "La nuestra es la mejor opción para encontrar la muerte a manos de los
hombres, pero confiando en la promesa de Dios de que seremos levantados por él."

Tema: Confiar en la promesa de Dios de que seremos
resucitados.
Nótese que estos hombres no eran cristianos. Jesús aún no había
venido a nuestro mundo para decirnos el mensaje de Dios. Pero
ya muchos judíos creían en la vida eterna. Muchos de ellos esta-
ban convencidos de que la muerte no es el fin de todo. Cuando
esta vida ha terminado, hay otra vida esperando a aquellos que
creen en Dios. La muerte es el paso a esa otra vida.
Hubo otros, entre el pueblo Judío, que no creyeron en la resurrec-
ción. Incluso estaban tratando de reírse de esa creencia. Esto es lo
que oímos acerca del Evangelio, (Lucas 20: 27-38). "Algunos
Saduceos -los que dicen que no hay resurrección se acercaron a
Jesús y le hicieron esta pregunta ..." Vienen a Jesús con la histo-
ria de nuevo, de siete hermanos, los hermanos uno tras otro se
han casado con la misma mujer sin dejar hijos. Los Saduceos
piensan que han encontrado un problema real para avergonzar a
Jesús y reírse de la creencia en la resurrección. Ellos preguntan:
"Ahora, en la resurrección, ¿cuál de ellos será el esposo desde
que se había casado con los siete?"
La respuesta de Jesús los lleva de vuelta al punto: "Los que son
juzgados dignos de un lugar en el otro mundo y en la resurrección
de entre los muertos no se casan porque ya no pueden morir ...
Dios es el Dios, no de los muertos, Sino de los vivos; Porque para
él todos los hombres están realmente vivos ".
¿Realmente creemos esto? Tal vez no se nos pida morir por esta
creencia. Pero cuando rezamos el Credo, y decimos: "Creo en la
resurrección de los muertos y en la vida del mundo venidero",
¿creemos lo que decimos? Y si alguien intentara reírse de nuestra
fe, ¿tendríamos el coraje de silenciarlo? Nuestra fe no se basa en
historias. No se basa en lo que algunas personas han dicho. No.
Como uno de los hermanos muriendo como un mártir dijo:
"Estamos confiando en la promesa de Dios de que seremos resu-
citados por Él".
Por último, lo que se llama a creer es lo que hemos dicho en el
Salmo que oramos después de la primera lectura: "Yo estaré sa-
tisfecho, cuando despierte, con la visión de tu gloria, oh Señor".

Theme: Relying on God’s premise that we shall be
raised.
Note that these men were not Christians. Jesus had not yet
come into our world to speak God’s message to us. But al-
ready many of the Jews believed in life eternal. Many of
them were convinced that death is not the end of everything.
When this life is over, there is another life waiting for those
who believe in God. Death is the passage to that other life.
There were some others, among the Jewish people, who did
not believe in the resurrection. They were even trying to
laugh at that belief. This is what we hear about the Gospel,
(Luke 20: 27-38). “Some Sadducees—those who say that
there is no resurrection approached Jesus and they put this
question to him…” They come to Jesus with the story of,
again, seven brothers, the brothers one after the other have
married the same woman leaving no children. The Sadducees
think they have found a real problem to embarrass Jesus, and
to laugh at the belief in the resurrection. They ask: “Now, at
the resurrection, to which of them will she be wife since she
had been married to all seven?”
Jesus’ answer brings them back to the point: “Those who are
judged worthy of a place in the other world and in the resur-
rection from the dead do not marry because they can no
longer die… God is the God, not of the dead, but of the liv-
ing; for to him all men are in fact alive”.
Do we really believe this? We may not be asked to die for
this belief. But when we pray the Creed, and we say: “I be-
lieve in the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world
to come”, do we mean what we say? And if somebody tried
to laugh at our faith, would we have the courage to silence
him/her? Our faith is not based on stories. It is not built on
what some people have said. No. As one of the brothers dy-
ing as a martyr said: We are “relying on God’s promise that
we shall be raised up by Him.”
Finally, what are called to believe is what we have said in the
Psalm we prayed after first reading: “I shall be filled, when I
awake, with the sight of your glory, O Lord.”.
OLGC– LOSS & GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP It can be difficult to go through the grieving process
alone. Our parish has created a Loss & Grief Support
Group to help each other through to bear our grief. The
group will meet every other Monday night from 7:30 PM
to 8:30 PM in the parish office. Our first meeting will be
November 7, 2016. If you need more information, please

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION: THE RITE OF ACCEPTANCE
Today, Sunday November 6, our Candidates and Catechumen of our community take another step in their journey of faith toward the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil or Pentecost Sunday. God has called them to a deeper relationship with Him and the Church. They have been gathering with our parish catechists for several weeks in In-quiry Sessions. They have been asking questions about our faith and the Christian life. They now take a step to enter the Catechumenate—a time of further preparation. They gather each week for classes to learn more about our faith. We ask you to keep them in your prayers.

Hoy Domingo 6 de Noviembre, nuestros Candidatos y Catecúmenos de nuestra comunidad toman un nue-vo paso en su jornada de fe hacia la celebración de los Sacramentos de Iniciación (Bautismo, Confirmación, Eucaristía) en la Vigilia Pascual o el Domingo de Pen-tecostés.
Dios los ha llamado a una relación más profunda con Él y la Iglesia. Ellos han estado reuniéndose con nues-tros catequistas por varias semanas en sesiones con sus preguntas a cerca de nuestra fe y vida Cristiana. Ahora toman un paso más para entrar en el Catecume-nado – tiempo para una preparación más profunda. Se reunirán cada semana para clases y así aprender más a cerca de nuestra fe.
