Philippians 2:2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and
working together with one mind and purpose.
Conventional wisdom says that you must always look out for number one and do whatever it takes to succeed. But that is not how the kingdom of God works. Paul wrote to the believers in Philippi, "Is there any encourage-ment from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and com-passionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheart-edly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose" (Philippians 2:1–2). The Message puts it this way: "Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own ad-vantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand." This goes against conventional wisdom about how we are to succeed in life, but this is what the Bible says. Some people may say, "I don't know what planet you're from, but that won't work in my situation. You don't know what it's like in the world that I have to live in." What we are talking about is the way that a Christian should live. The Bible says the first step to joyful living is to put the needs of others before yourself. Paul said, "Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too" (Philippians 2:4). That seems like a recipe for disaster and failure in today's cul-ture. But here's what the Bible says: "So humble yourselves un-der the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor" (1 Peter 5:6). If you want to be a happy person, then you cannot be a self-absorbed person, because a self-absorbed person will be a mis-erable person.

Newsletter Notes
From around the Southern Province
Moravia let its light shine a little brighter during the Advent-Christmas season by providing the Moravi-an star that topped the town of Summerfield’s Christ-mas tree. That’s no small thing either, since the star measured three feet in diameter.
Imagine. Breaking a Moravian tradition. And at Christmas Eve lovefeast, no less. It happened at Kon-noak Hills. Instead of the traditional white dress, the women Dieners wore white blouses with black skirts or slacks. The change was a matter of practicality. White dresses were plentiful when nurses wore them, but now that they wear every color under the sun a white dress is nigh impossible to find. So Konnoak Hills opted to break one tradition and of course start a new one. Actu-ally the white dress is fairly “new” as far as Moravian traditions go. First mention in The Wachovia Moravian is the early 1930s with Kernersville perhaps being the first on Christmas Eve 1932. What was worn before then? Perhaps what was — and still is — traditional in Herrnhut: black dress with white apron. And that sounds very much like Konnoak Hills’ new tradition of white over black.
How far can a Moravian Christmas Eve lovefeast go? How about halfway around the world? Thanks to streaming its services on the Internet, Home Church received a thank-you response from Zambia in south central Africa.
