Oak Grove Mission Statement

Our mission is to glorify God through worship, bring people to faithful

discipleship in Christ, equip them for ministry in the church and the

world, and grow in our love for one another through fellowship.

Pastor's Page

I realize that it has probably been quite a while since Oak

Grove had an interim pastor. The transition between full

time pastors is an important time for a congregation. This is

a time that can be used to accomplish several things before

the church calls its next pastor. It is important that we be in

prayer for that pastor. We don't know who they will be yet,

and that pastor hasn't received the call to come yet, but we

need to be constantly praying for the process. Pray that the

Holy Spirit will be preparing the pastor to receive the call.

Pray that our boards hear the leading of the Holy Spirit as to

whom the Lord would have Oak Grove call. As well as pray

that the Provincial Elders have the leading of the Holy Spirit

in the names given to Oak Grove. It will be a part of my work

here to keep that before us as a congregation. I believe that

the new pastor will be glad to hear that “we have been pray-

ing for you for months now".

Next as you wait to call your next pastor it is a good time

to think about the things that we may need to change or do

differently. Not that anything is wrong but how do we im-

prove our prayer life, grow our Sunday School, increase at-

tendance or finish started projects. There is no limit to the

things that we can do in this period. It is still a great time to

invite someone to church.

As we spend this time together I covet your prayers and I

want you to know that you are in my prayers as well. This is

a wonderful church that God has blessed with a rich heritage

and I believe a great future. As we prepare for that time I

pray that God draw us closer to him and to each other and

that we see what He has in store for us.

God bless you all,

David

JOINT BOARD REPORT

Joint Board met April 14, 2015 with 9 members present. Our Interim

Pastor, David Berrier, opened the meeting with scripture and prayer.

Comments were positive on Sunday services, Holy Week Readings and

Easter Sunday services. Information is being organized from the Con-

gregational Reviews. Recognition will be given to Sarah Price, Laura

Price, Jamie May and Jody Colona, Jr. on Graduate Sunday which will

be May 17. Arrangements are being considered for giving Holy Com-

munion to our members at Trinity Glen. Other topics of consideration

were the Capital Campaign (new kitchen) and the hope for growth of

our congregation.

ELDERS REPORT

Board of Elders met with discussion about the Congregational Review

Surveys and moving forward in our search for a pastor. The leadership

by our Interim Pastor, David Berrier, has brought a lot of great com-

ments from our congregation. He shared some of his concerns for our

church. He has been faithfully visiting Oak Grove’s shut-ins, including

those at Trinity Glen and Priddy Manor.

Circle #2 needs extra helpers (men and women) when they meet on Thursday, May 14th at 10:00 a.m. The flower arrangements used for graves at Easter need to be inspected and prepared for storage. Their regular monthly meeting will begin at noon or whenever the job is finished.

The next

Band Practice

is Sunday,

May 17th at 9:00 a.m.

in the

Fellowship Hall.

Have you been blessed to have a father? Have you been blessed to have a special man in your life who has been “like” a father to you? Do you know a special man who would appreciate recognition on Father’s Day? Some-one that you admire in his efforts as a father or father figure? Show him that he is special by having his name listed in the Father’s Day Bulletin Insert on June 21st, 2015! If you would like to honor or remember someone in the Father’s Day Special Bulletin Insert, please submit names to the church office no later than Monday, June 1st, 2015. Donations of any amount will be accepted and should be included with your listing.

Newsletter Notes

A very important 150th anniversary occurs this May 21 at St. Philips’s 1861 church in Salem. Two orders of Union Gen. John Schofield were read to the church full of listeners that day, May 21, 1865. “In the first order,” the Church Diary states, “it was made known that according to the proclamation of the President of the United States the slave population of this state was now free. The second contained a number of regulations establishing temporarily the relations of this freed population.” This then marks Emancipa-tion Day for North Carolina as recorded in the St. Philips Diary, which concludes: “May this great change turn out to the eventual wellbeing of these people, and the furtherance of the kingdom of God among them.” And we might add for all of us today as we strive toward acceptance and mutual respect these 150 years later.

Now wasn’t that a glorious Easter this April 5? Reports all around indicate excellent attendance in the almost perfect weather with only a little chill. In the big one, Salem Congregation’s Sunrise Service in God’s Acre, we dropped a verse, but all agreed that made the timing perfect for the sun to rise just as the service ended. And at New Philadelphia, everything proceeded perfectly according to plan: Band into the graveyard first to begin antipho-nal playing as the minister then led in the choir followed by the congregation. It all kinda makes you want to say, See you all here again next Easter!

Ardmore is looking to a major renovation of one of its largest assets: its church organ. It is 54 years old and in a word, “is simply worn out.” “Replace as required” could be done, but then you are faced with periodic patchwork. Instead, Ardmore chose the larger alternative of complete overhaul. The cost: $92,000 and four months of work when the organ will be out of service. Stretch that cost over the next 50 years of service, and it sounds like a bargain.

Covenant is aiming to take its service more into the commu-nity. Beyond Candle Tea, Christmas Eve Lovefeast, and Backpack Buddy program, Covenant plans to increase its presence on social media (its events calendar on Facebook), holding more community events, and participating in more “Blue Jean Sunday Projects.” Yes, reach out, Covenant!

The Trustees at Grace are eying the possibility of a capital campaign. The aim is to build an addition to the church to house an elevator and improve handicap accessibility.

Moravia is still cashing in on printer cartridges turned in to Staples. $2 here, $2 there. And before you know it you are talking real cash, not to mention saving by recycling. Call it good steward-ship. From around the Southern Province
