It is a new year 2016 is here, and all of the challenges, joys, hopes

and hurdles that it brings. I hope that you are excited about this New Year

and have high expectations for the year ahead. It is a time that many people

make their New Year’s resolutions and begin their exercise plans, diets,

financial plans and all kind of goals to improve their health and life. That

is wonderful! Good things rarely happen without planning. In the midst of

that let me suggest a few things that might make a difference in your life.

First let me ask you to consider making worship a priority in your life.

The commitment of being in church on Sunday is one that only takes a few

weeks to develop. As you make it a habit you will see that it is not a chore

but something that you actually look forward to. The more you put into it

the more that you will get out of it. Come prepared to hear God speak to

you, come prepared to learn from the Sunday school lesson. Find a part of

Oak Grove that you want to be involved in. There is a great deal for you to

gain by being involved. That may seem strange but God blesses you with

peace and fellowship through His work.

Next take a look at your family, they are certainly precious to you and

need to be a part of this commitment. You will be amazed that the more

that you give to God in service and commitment to His work the more that

He will bless you. Take a few minutes to be in devotions, sing that hymn,

or speak about what you saw God do that day. The more that you realize

that He is there the more you will be able to draw close to Him and trust

Him to guide your life and the life of your family.

Third find someone who you can impact for God. It may be a family

member, friend, and co-worker. You don’t have to preach to them but

share with them what God is doing in your life. It may seem uncomforta-

ble at first but the things you share will have an impact on them. The world

is always looking for a little good in the midst of the trials. God will give

that to you to share. By sharing what God is doing in your life you bring

hope and open the door for them to trust God in their lives.

You will find that just a few things can make a tremendous difference

in your life and those you care about. I pray that 2016 is a blessed time for

you and yours. Know that you are loved, and prayed for here at Oak

Grove.

May God bless you this year,

David

JOINT BOARD REPORT 12-8-15

Joint Board met and David Berrier opened with Daily Text scripture and pray-

er. New Oak Grove signs are being put up at the two entrances to Hammock

Farm Road. Updates on hospitalized members. No update from Westend

Construction regarding renovations. Board members have contacted PEC on

2016 budget as well as a permanent pastor. 2016 Worship Schedule is ready

pending minor adjustments. Consideration of serving Lenten suppers in the

parsonage during construction. Pastor is arranging sermon rotation with

Providence and Fulp for Lent. Lack of participation has led to no Wednesday

night youth fellowship gatherings until further notice. Two members have

volunteered to teach the College/Young Adult class. A retired church member

will be managing the reader board. Discussion of how to help a church family

facing financial hardship. Joint Board approved Christmas Eve lovefeast dona-

tions going to Elders Discretionary fund. A visit is planned for board member

(s) to go to PEC about a pastor for Oak Grove. As 2016 appointments are

made, new members are to be considered. Due to low interest, some annual

events may be altered, discontinued, replaced or held jointly with other Mora-

vian churches.

ELDERS REPORT 12-8-15

Choir director is organizing Christmas Caroling. Advent Sundays are in good

order. 65 attended Thanksgiving lovefeast. An Elder has offered to assist with

youth fellowship. Plans are swiftly underway as Easter is in March. A 6-8

week Confirmation Class is being prepared with great anticipation. Church

secretary will order materials. Unity Prayer Watch is in January. Vice Chair-

man of the Elders will continue to work in the Call Process for a new pastor

beyond retirement from the board. Prayers are needed for the PEC as they

work to provide a pastor for Oak Grove.

Dear Church Family,

Words could never express my gratitude to

each of you for your love and support dur-

ing my recent illness. I am so grateful for

your cards, calls and visits but most of all

for your prayers. The power of prayer is

amazing and I feel so blessed that so many

were lifted for me. You are a wonderful

group of people and a great group of God’s

children.

Love and blessings,

Dewey & Dianne

In 1727, the Moravian church in Herrnhut, Germany

covenanted for an “hourly intercession” which continued

for 100 years with great blessing to the entire Moravian

Church. The “Prayer Watch” in which Moravians

around the world participate was reestablished in 1957.

Please sign up on the bulletin board to participate

in an hour of prayer in your home. Oak Grove will

pray from 6pm-midnight on Saturday, January

16th. The week of January 10th you will receive a letter

of prayer topics you may include.

Dear Don and Jane Farmer,

Please allow me to thank you for the gift you

gave to the Moravian Music Foundation in

honor of our Choir and Band Members here at

Oak Grove. What a special and kind gesture

and it is very much appreciated!

Sincerely,

Robin Sell Hancock
