SPORT NEWS PSSA KNOCKOUT TOUCH On Friday 31st July, Orana Heights played Narromine Public in the third round of the boys PSSA knockout touch competition. It was a very tight game, with Orana coming home winners 4-3. The boys never gave up and Miss Prout was very proud of their efforts. The next round will be played in the coming weeks. Miss Prout has entered this picture in “That’s Gold” on the NRL Footy Show, so watch out for us on Thursday night! I am not sure if we will make it on Thursday’s show, but hopefully we do!. Serena Prout.

…to be SunSmart!

Did you know that we need some sun exposure to make vitamin D for

healthy bones and muscles?

In NSW, UV levels are at their lowest in June and July. In the north and far west, most people need 20-25 minutes of sun exposure during mid-morning or mid-afternoon, and in the south 30-40 minutes in the middle of the day. This will keep your vitamin D levels topped up during winter and means braving the chill and rolling up your sleeves to get some sunlight on your forearms as well as your hands.

Don’t risk damaging your skin. UV levels can change from day to day. When UV levels are 3 and above use sun protection. People who use sun-screen regularly when UV levels are 3 and above do not have lower vitamin D levels than people who don’t.

Check UV levels for your local area on the free SunSmart App for smart phones, download it from the App Store or Google Play.

To help keep your kids safe, check your

schools SunSmart status by heading to www.sunsmartnsw.

BEING SUNSMART IN WINTER

Camilla Barlow, from NSW Cancer Council, has kindly organised some SUNSMART Snippets which will be included in our

school newsletters from time to time.

This week’s Snippet highlights the importance of sun exposure to our body and how to check UV levels to ensure that chil-

dren have adequate sun protection all year round. In this regard our school has a year-round policy of NO HAT STAY UN-

DER COVER. Children are encouraged to wear their school hats outside and not leave them at home, in their classroom or in

their bag.

NAIDOC WEEK—We were very lucky in 1M

to have Luke from Playschool visit

our classroom.

Congratulations to all students!

We have filled our Oakey Dokey

Tree. As a reward the whole

school will be celebrating this

Friday.

Years K-2 have chosen to have a

dress-up/disco day.

Primary children have chosen to

have an out of uniform day.

Please ensure appropriate cloth-

ing is worn as it is quite cool.

Also closed in shoes are a must

for the day.

School hats will be needed for the

playground.

Well done students!
