Parish Good News APRIL 2018

Did you know that Easter is not merely one day but an
entire season? It’s true! Eastertide or the Easter season
stretches for 50 days, from Easter Sunday to Pentecost
(when the Holy Spirit descends upon the apostles). This
Easter season is marked by the joyful celebration of
Christ’s resurrection and the Church as witness to the
Resurrection. Notice that the Sunday readings change
during this season; the Old Testament reading is re-
placed by stories of the earliest disciples evangelizing in
the Acts of the Apostles. In the car on the way home
from Mass this Sunday, talk about the reading from the
Acts and how we are still called to witness to the Resur-
rection more than 2,000 years later!

BEYOND EASTER SUNDAY
In aching silence,
experiencing death in her heart
and yet,
not dying,
Mary pondered the agony of her Son.
A gentle face
tender smile
a warm voice asked:
“Woman, why are you weeping?
Has the Angel,
who first announced to you
the birth of Love,
not yet announced to you
that Christ is risen from the dead?"
Raising her tearful and sorrowful glance,
the Immaculate gazed into his eyes.
Quivering and trembling she cried:
“Son!"
And pressed him to her heart

DAWN OF RESURRECTION
MONTHLY FUN FACT….
Excerpts from the Our Lady of Lourdes Historical Treatise
Despite unstable times due to war
and an influenza epidemic that took
many lives; “Against this economic
background plans went ahead to
build a church and a rectory. The
basements were dug and the cor-
nerstone of the first church was laid
in 1920….The first family to register was Mr. and Mrs. William
L. Holbrook with 5 sons and three daughters. It is said that
the oldest daughter assumed the nickname “Quarter Mary”
because she always had her hand out for a quarter. She was
sending money to St. Theresa’s Guild of Juneau in Alaska,
where Bishop Cremont had worked as a missionary. He had
come to Alaska from France. Mary Jane Wolsey was the first
baptism, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wolsey.

Omaha Gives! is a year-round online giving platform organized by the Omaha Com-
munity Foundation to grow philanthropy in our area. Each year, there is a 24-hour
online giving event in May to celebrate nonprofits. This year's giving day will take
place on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. However, new this year, in addition to the big
day on May 23rd, you can now schedule donations throughout the month! From May
1st-May 22nd, you can go online to schedule as many donations as you would like and still participate in the big
day as well. The goal is to inspire the community to come together for 24-hours to give as much as possible to
support the work of public 501(c)(3) nonprofits in the metro area.
Be part of Omaha Gives Day and support your School and Parish. For more details and instructions for giving
online, please go to omahagives.com. You can also go directly to the Our Lady of Lourdes page at https://
www.omahagives.org/OLLOmaha/ to begin scheduling donations as of May 1st. Please keep an eye on our web-
site ollomaha.com and the upcoming May Good News for more information on this wonderful “giving” event!

Alex will take part in the 2018
Nebraska National Geograph-
ic State Bee on April 6 at the
University of Nebraska-
Omaha. Buescher was noti-
fied by the National Geo-
graphic Society that he is one
of the semifinalists for this competition, now
in its 30th year. School Bees were held in
schools with fourth- through eighth-grade stu-
dents throughout the state to determine each
school champion. School champions then took
a qualifying test, which they submitted to the
National Geographic Society. The National Ge-
ographic Society has invited
up to 100 of the top-scoring
students in each of the 50
states, the District of Colum-
bia, Department of Defense
Dependents Schools and U.S.
territories to compete in the
State Bees. Here, Alex is pic-
tured with his geography teacher Mr. Jourdan.
