“ Th e n , Yo u a r e a K i n g ? ” We conclude the liturgical year with this question from Pontius Pilate. Je-sus’ affirmation, “My kingdom is not here”, disconcerts Pilate, and us. Who speaks? A carpenter from the small town of Nazareth, a preacher whose words and healings disturb people, a pious Passover pilgrim coming to Je-rusalem for the big feast, now arrested, accused, misunderstood by the re-ligious leaders of the time, and abandoned by his followers.

The insignia of his kingship amaze us: his entry into Jerusalem on a donkey is an em-blem of peace and humility; his staff is the crossbeam; his crown, the bloody wreath of thorns; his throne, the Cross. Later, when the soldiers make fun of Jesus, they dress him in purple and bow down to him, they have no idea that this king is about to be raised from an empty tomb and change the course of history with his victory over sin and death. Jesus answers Pilate: “You say I am a king,” and then, “For this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.” What is truth? It is the Father’s love for every creature, love that Christ the King demonstrates with his Passover – his life, death, and return to life. The humble service and total sacrifice of Christ the King is the truth that rescues hu-manity from itself and restores the dignity of the human race. (adapted from LTP Workbook for Lectors)

Two years ago, because of your generosity we raised $12,000 to build Habitat home in Tustin for a veteran fami-ly. The Catholic Coalition which consists of 11 parishes, 6 Knights of Columbus councils and a few other organiza-tions raised a total of $150,000 to sponsor the home. We are happy to report that after 10 months of construction with mostly volunteers and many of you are among the volunteers, the house is finally completed. It will be blessed and dedicated on Dec. 8 at 10am with check-in time at 9:30am. If you wish to attend this wonderful event please contact Herman Indra, [email protected] or Ram Reveles, [email protected] for more information. Also, the coalition will be once again assisting in the fund-ing of future Habitat limited income homes in Fullerton over the next few years. Our parish will again participate in raising funds through a second annual Wine and Cheese celebration on February 23, 2019. So, please look for fu-ture announcements for you to join in this great effort.

We invite you to join us this Christmas in reaching out to those in need. The Giving Tree, sponsored by St. Vincent de Paul is decorated with gift suggestions in the church November 25, and on December 2, 9, and 16. These donations help several organizations: M a r y ’ s S h e l t e r is a home in Tustin for unwed pregnant teens that empowers and equips vulnerable teen mothers and their babies for lives of hope, dignity and self-sufficiency. B e y o n d is run by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Orange. It helps homeless women in transition with temporary housing, training and support to find jobs. H o p e f o r K i d s offers two kinds of support for children; helps find and support host families for children whose families are in crisis and who need transitional help. T h e S c h o o l S i s t e r s o f S t . F r a n c i s serve the needy in poor parishes in Southern Texas near the Mexican border in a number of capacities as they help the poor, the disadvantaged, and the abused. T h e h o m e l e s s o f S a n F e l i p e are the men and women in the Capistrano Beach, San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point areas who are homeless. Many are men who are day laborers who do not have the means to rent rooms. Once a year, through the Giving Tree, St. Timothy provides these brothers and sisters the gifts of jeans, sweatshirts, and a bountiful meal that are provided in January on the Feast of the Three Kings. S t . T i m o t h y F o o d P a n t r y helps 80 to 90 families a week with food and basic items such as diapers, toilet paper, and soap. T h e S t . T i m o t h y C o n f e r e n c e o f S t . V i n c e n t d e P a u l assists local families in need with gift cards for gas, grocery stores, Target and Walmart. To participate, just visit the Giving Tree in the back of the church, take an ornament, and return the ornament with the designated gift to the box under the tree. You may also return the ornament and gift to the front office during office hours or through the mail drop when the office is closed.

Advent can be overlooked as we head into the holiday season. In this secular world, Christmas adver-tising appears right after Halloween. In the Catholic Liturgical Year, Advent is the New Year! We do our best to prepare our hearts and homes for Jesus Christ and the Incarnation. Pam Hurwitz, an in-spiring speaker, will share how to stay centered on Jesus Christ.

C h r i s t m a s C h o i r It's time once again for our annual Christmas Eve Choir! We sing for the Midnight Mass which actually starts at 10:00 p.m. We will have three rehearsals on the following Wednesdays:

D e c e m b e r 5 | D e c e m b e r 1 2 | D e c e m b e r 1 9 7 : 3 0 p m | C h u r c h

There is a lot of music to sing but we have a large group that returns each year and that helps to make it very special. It does help if you have sung in a choir before and if you know your voice part such as soprano, alto, tenor or bass. If you would like to sing for Christmas Eve please e-mail Bob De Carlo, [email protected]. Thanks again and I hope we can once again join our voices together in praise and worship as we cel-ebrate this season of our Lord's birth! God Bless!

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Saint Timothy Parish is to form

loving disciples of Jesus Christ who make a difference. Visit our Parish website for more information www.st-timsrc.org … Like us on Facebook!

A R e f l e c t i o n o n C l o s e E n c o u n t e r s “The way a crow/ Shook down on me/ The dust of snow/ From a hemlock tree/ Has given my heart/A change of mood/ And saved some part/ Of a day I had rued.” – Robert Frost, Dust of Snow A spiritual director once told me that God, most loving father that he is, often gives us “cookies” to cheer us up. With that in mind, let me describe two close encounters – nothing to do with Steven Spielberg – that affected me deeply. Close Encounter Number One: Some months ago I happened to be sitting on the front doorstep of a house in Laguna Beach, where my wife was visiting a friend. For some reason I was feeling depressed. At first the streets were empty, but soon two women appeared a block away and across the street walking in my direction. As they drew nearer, I could see that one of them, wearing a red coat and smiling, was handicapped. The other woman, looking serious and guid-ing her companion, I took to be a caretaker. Suddenly, the lady in the red coat broke loose from her caretaker, crossed the street and walked up to me. “Isn’t it a lovely day!” she said. I smiled and told her I agreed. Then she rose on tiptoes and kissed me on the cheek. The caretaker apol-ogized. I came close to weeping. Close Encounter Number Two: During a recent road trip to Colorado, my wife and I had stopped in Chinle, Arizona, in the heart of Navajo country. While Mrs. K was visiting the local Burger King to pick up sandwiches, I sat in the car, grumpy, tired of driving and worried we would not reach Colorado before dark. A man crossed the parking lot and headed for my car. He looked like a member of the tribe – dark skin, white shirt, blue jeans, red bandanna. I thought for sure he was going to ask for money, especially when he thrust his right hand through the open car window. Wrong. He just wanted to shake hands and talk. “How do you like this part of the country?” he asked. “Very beautiful,” I replied. He asked where we were headed and when I told him he said, “That’s fine. Just keep going north on 191 and drive carefully. Have a good trip.” And he was gone. Of course, these encounters weren’t miracles and no doubt have logical (and boring) explana-tions, but no one will convince me that such sudden, uninvited and yet timely expressions of love from total strangers, who “saved some part of a day I had rued,” were not visits with angels or, at the very least, cookies sent by the most loving of Fathers. (by Bill Kramer, Life, Justice and Peace)
