Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

by the inspiration

of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name,

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Summary of the Commandments:

‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the

Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your

mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first

The Confession

God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy, welcoming sinners and

inviting them to the Lord’s table. Let us confess our sins in penitence

and faith, confident in God's forgiveness.

Merciful God, our maker and our judge,

we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

and in what we have failed to do:

we have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;

we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.

Father, forgive us.

Strengthen us to love and obey you

in newness of life;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Words of assurance: Merciful Lord, grant to your faithful people pardon

and peace, may they be cleansed from all sin, and serve you with a quiet

Almighty God,

your blessed Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ,

ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things:

mercifully give us faith to trust

that, as he promised,

he abides with us on earth until the end of time; through the same Jesus

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

First Reading: ACTS 1.15-17, 21-26 15

In those days Peter stood up among the believers (together the crowd

numbered about one hundred and twenty people) and said, 16

‘Friends, the

scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit through David foretold

concerning Judas, who became a guide for those who arrested Jesus— 17

for

he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.’ 21

So

one of the men who have accompanied us throughout the time that the

Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22

beginning from the baptism of John

until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these must become a

witness with us to his resurrection.’ 23

So they proposed two, Joseph called

Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias. 24

Then they prayed

and said, ‘Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two

you have chosen 25

to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from

which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.’ 26

And they cast lots for

them, and the lot fell on Matthias; and he was added to the eleven

apostles.

Psalm: 1:1-7

1 Blessed are they who have not walked in the counsel of the ungodly:

nor followed the way of sinners, nor taken their seat amongst the scornful.

2 But their delight is in the law of the Lord:

and on that law will they ponder day and night.

3 They are like trees planted beside streams of water:

that yield their fruit in due season.

4 Their leaves also shall not wither:

and look, whatever they do, it shall prosper.

5 As for the ungodly, it is not so with them:

they are like the chaff which the wind scatters.

Second Reading: 1 JOHN 5.9-13 9If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is

the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. 10

Those who believe

in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not

believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that

God has given concerning his Son. 11

And this is the testimony: God gave us

eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12

Whoever has the Son has life;

whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13

I write these

things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may

know that you have eternal life.

The Nicene Creed

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.

We believe in one God,

the Father, the almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary

and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge

the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

of their entry into your nearer presence.

Offertory Prayer: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through

your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offerings for

your glory and for the service of your kingdom.

THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

Priest: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Priest: Lift up your hearts:

People: We lift them to the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

ALM: Father, we thank you that you feed us in these holy

mysteries with the spiritual food of the body and blood of our Saviour, Jesus

May the Holy Spirit be upon us now as we receive this sacrament and know

THE COMMUNION

We who are many are one body,

For we all share in the one bread.

Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in

remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith

with thanksgiving.

Baptised Christians who receive communion in their own church

are invited to share communion with us.

Communion wine may be received:

(a) from the common cup from the first of the two Eucharistic Assistants.

(b) by intinction from the second of the Eucharistic Assistants where a small

part of the wafer is carefully dipped in the wine, or

(c) from an individual glass on request from the first Eucharistic Assistant.

Or you may choose to receive the wafer only (Communion in one kind).

Gracious God, we thank you that in this sacrament
