Problem Solving and Decision MakingE�ective problem-solving and decision-making is the key to management excellence. Time and again, successful managerial technique has been attributed to the quality of decisions and approaches to problem solving that the management adopts in a dynamic and �uid business environment. Despite its importance, very few managers are groomed in the art and science of making apt decisions, with ease and direction.KSBL’s three-day workshop on ‘Problem Solving and Decision Making’ covers the techniques, approaches and skills required to making value-creating judgment choices for businesses. It also addresses common decision-making pitfalls and traps that managers are usually susceptible to and ways to avoid them. This course is about taking a proactive approach to problems in the work-place and making decisions through a rational, well thought-out response.

• Decision making under certainty and uncertainty• Evaluating trade-offs in situations involving hard choices• Tools and techniques for problem solving: identification, analysis, resolution• Design-thinking as an approach to innovative problem solving• Ways of enhancing creativity in the problem solving and decision making system• Problem solving in complex group decisions• Ethical considerations in decision making for sustainable success

Who Should Attend

This workshop employs participant-centered, experiential learning processes to develop problem solving and decision making capabilities. Through examples, exercises, case-studies, simulation, role-plays, team learning and videos, participants will not only understand the best practices in decision making but also apply them during the course of the program.

The program is aimed at middle level managers with responsibilities for decision making and problem solving.

Dr. Zeeshan is an Associate Professor at KSBL. Prior to joining KSBL he was heading the undergraduate program in Accounting and Finance at Suleman Dawood School of Business, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Dr. Zeeshan has over ten years of diverse experience including training, research and consultancyexperi-ence. After completing his MBA from IBA Karachi, he worked as a management consultant with Ferguson Associates, an affiliate firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He completed his Ph.D. from Mississippi State University, US in the discipline of Finance. Professionally, he is a CFA and has also passed all CPA examina-tions – the two most respected professional qualifications in Finance and Accounting respectively. His decade-long experience as an academician comprises of teaching and training using a variety of pedagogical techniques (including case method) at top business schools in Pakistan. He has also been in�uential in shaping the curriculum for business education at these schools.

There are several areas in which Dr. Zeeshan has designed and conducted executive training workshops. Some notable mentions are Finance for Non-Financial Managers, Corporate Financial Management, Management Development Program, Understanding Corporate Financial Statements, Islamic Finance, and Accounting for Executives.

Dr. Muhammad Athar Siddiqui is an Associate Professor in the Management area at the KSBL. Prior to joining KSBL, Dr. Siddiqui served as a faculty for three years at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Dr. Siddiqui graduated with a PhD in Human Resource Manage-ment from University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, UK) in 2010. He also has a MS and MBA from SZABIST (Karachi) with distinctions and university gold medals. Dr. Siddiqui has over 10 years of international teaching experience at universities in Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. He has also been involved in consulting and executive developments programs with organizations such as Beaconhouse School System, Fatima Fertilizers, K-Electric, Novartis, Pakistan Naval Shipping Corporation, PARCO, Sharif Group, Sindh Education Foundation and United Energy Pakistan. He is an expert executive facili-tator in the areas of business communication, HR interventions, leadership and team building. Dr. Siddiqui is known for his multipedagogical and experiential approaches for student engage-ment. In terms of research, Dr. Siddiqui has published in the area of Critical Human Resource Develop-ment and Informational and Functional Export Barriers in the Emerging Markets. Dr. Siddiqui’s research has been presented at the British Academy of Management, Global Academic Network and University Forum of HRD Europe conferences. His research interests focus on workplace learning, management education, and critical perspectives in employment relationships. Dr. Siddiqui cares for social change and enjoys interacting with youngsters. A bit of deliberate opposition to arguments and friendly banter keeps him intellectually charged.

Dr. Muhammad Imran Chaudhry is an Assistant Professor in the areas of economics, finance & accounting at the KSBL. He completed his PhD from the department of Applied Economics at the Ohio State Univer-sity. In the past, Dr. Imran has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses at the Beacon House National University (BNU) and the Information Technology University (ITU). Prior to that, he worked on an Acumen Fund development project in rural Pakistan and as a Research Associate with the Social Enter-prise Development Centre (SEDC) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Dr. Imran has consulting experience in the areas of agricultural markets, agribusiness and family business.

Dr. Imran earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting & Finance from LUMS and passed all CFA exams in 2011. Thereafter, he completed dual graduate programs in the areas of economic theory and agricultural & development economics from Ohio State University en route to his PhD. In terms of research, Dr. Imran utilizes a wide array of methods including economic modeling, applied econometrics and numerical simulations to examine policy relevant issues broadly related to the fields of agricultural economics and financial economics. His research has been presented at the American Applied Econom-ics Association and Midwest Economics Association conferences. His research has also been accepted for publication in reputable journals e.g. Issues in Accounting Education and Applied Financial Economics.
