Greetings from Thermax Cooling business! We would like to thank you for your overwhelming feedback on the “Konnect” initiative and we do hope you would continue to find this means of

communication with you , our valued customer , in being updated with some of the happenings and information regarding our products and service .

As the world celebrated the Environment Day on the 5thJune, we at Thermax too have re-affirmed our commitment in bringing in more products and innovative solutions for helping the Sustainability cause of our customers . We have been working on taking up our service offering to higher levels and ensure a high ‘up time ‘for our machines supplied to you. We are soon launching our “Prof I care” programme for giving a host of service solutions suiting various customer requirements. We do hope with this it would give a good value to all our customers in enhancing the preventive maintenance regime which is very important for absorption chillers.

We are also proud to share that we have successfully supplied 5 x 2000 TR steam fired chillers to Adani Mundra Solar PV Ltd for their PV plant in Mundra – this is the largest ever single absorption chiller installation in India. In the International market, we have recently supplied 4 x 700 TR Multi energy Chiller Heaters on gas engines for the Hudson Yard Project in Manhattan New York .We would like to thank you our customers for supporting us and pushing us in our efforts to deliver World Class solutions and provide World Class services .

District Heating (DH) is currently experiencing a renaissance in the UK. According to reports, District heating in Denmark, currently heats over 60% of homes with that number rising to 95% in Copenhagen.

The Solutions provided by Thermax leverage green fuels, waste heat etc, and thereby reducing carbon footprint making us a trusted partner.

District heating company Hasle in Denmark placed an order with Thermax for a 1500 kW Low Temperature hot water driven Heat Pump. The heat pump is based on the twin type hot water chiller design and will be used for district heating application.

Hammel, a district heating

company in central Denmark placed an order for one heat pump. This twin type hot water gas driven heat pump will be used in district heating.

Silkeborg in Denmark placed an order for 2 nos.x7000 kW single effect steam driven heat pumps and 2 nos.x12000 kW double effect steam driven heat pumps. The hot water is used for district heating application. This will be the first project where flue gas condensation heat is received on the back of two Frame 9, GE turbines.

The key advantages of District Heating compared to individual gas

fired boilers is that DH can deliver heat in a more efficient manner, more cheaply and with lower carbon emissions. It does this mainly by capturing thermal energy or heat that would otherwise be wasted. This wasted heat is primarily created as by product of generating electricity in power stations. Usually this is ejected into the atmosphere (via cooling towers) or to rivers. However, by generating electricity in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants the wasted heat can be recovered and used in a DH network.

DENMARK CHOOSES THERMAX FOR A ZERO CARBON FUTURE

Mundra Solar PV Limited (Adani Group), Gujarat placed an order with Thermax for five Double Effect Steam Driven Chillers, each of capacity 2000TR. For the

working of the chillers, the steam is extracted from the customer’s coal based power plant boiler. The chilled water is used for production area air-conditioning application

and also part of chilled water will be consumed in the solar PV production process.

Conventionally, copper, copper nickel or stainless steel tubes are employed in the chiller’s absorber and condenser section, but since Mundra Solar uses sea water directly, corrosion resistant titanium tubes are being used.

The Adani Group is one of India’s leading business houses. Adani has grown to become a global integrated infrastructure player with businesses in key industry verticals - resources, logistics and energy.

Thermax received an order from the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Iran for five direct fired chillers of different capacities taking the total number of Thermax chillers sold in the region to a little more than 100. These chillers will be supplied to three different locations. This is a major breakthrough for the industrial sector in Iran. The National Iranian Oil Company, a government-owned corporation under the direction of the Ministry of Petroleum of Iran, is an oil and natural gas producer and distributor headquartered in Tehran. These chillers will be used for

comfort cooling application.Thermax received another

order from Emam Reza Hospital in Mashhad, Iran for 2 steam driven chillers. These chillers of capacity 380 TR each will be used for comfort cooling application. Having 856 beds,

Emam Reza hospital is considered one of the biggest general hospital and a reputed centre for education and treatment in Iran. Besides being a base for patients who seek help and advice, the hospital is a well-known core for medical education and research.

SALE OF THERMAX CHILLERS IN IRAN CROSSES 100

United Sugar Company, a sugar processing and trading company in Saudi Arabia placed an order for a single effect stream driven chiller. The company was founded in 1998 and is based in Jeddah. United Sugar Company operates as a subsidiaryof

the Savola Group of companies. The chiller supplied will be used in the sugar dryer to maintain both the temperature and humidity for the sugar refinery process.• Tusker Apparels Ltd Co. a huge

textile exporting major in Jordon

placed an order for a VAM. The 360 TR double effectsteam driven chiller will be used for comfort air-cooling of the factory floor.

• Tunisia’s biggest tissue producer, Tunissie Ouate placed an order for a low temperature hot water driven chiller. At Tunisie Ouate, commercial tissue paper is made into toilet, facial and napkin paper as well as kitchen towels. To meet the growing market demands for high quality tissue paper, our customer currently has an annual capacity of 45,000 metric tonsproduced by three advanced technology machines. Additionally, two deinking plants contribute to the conversion of wastepaper into commercial tissue of superior quality. By opting for this co-generation project with Thermax, Tunissie Ouate will receive some subsidiary from the government.

Thermax has once again gained

the trust of IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited) by

bagging a huge order from them for

five vapour absorption chillers.

IFFCO is the world's largest

fertilizer cooperative federation

based in India which is registered as

a Multistate Cooperative Society. The

absorption chillers shall be supplied

at different IFFCO plant locations in

North India for various applications.

Out of the five chillers to be

supplied, two Low temperature hot

water driven chillers of 800 TR will

be supplied to the IFFCO Aonla plant

in Utter Pradesh in their CO2-Urea

plant for CO2 cooling and HVAC

applications.

For their Kalol plant, Thermax

will be supplying a 400 TR steam

+ jacket water driven chiller which

will be used for CO2 cooling

applications.

For the IFFCO Phulpur plant, one

400 TR Low temperature hot water

driven chiller will be used for CO2

cooling application. Along with that

Thermax will also be supplying a

2000 TR Low temperature hot water

driven chiller for Gas Turbine inlet

air cooling application. Apart from

supplying of the chillers, Thermax

will also be doing Balance

of Plant (BoP).

Further strengthening our foothold in Bangladesh, Thermax received a major order from Ismail Spinning Mills Limited for five chillers. Out of the five chillers, three chillers of capacity 627 TR are double effect steam driven chillers and two chillers of capacity 310 TR are hot water driven chillers.

At the spinning mill, the temperature and humidity are to be maintained at particular levels in the production area. The spinning mills have rotors operating at high rpm, hence generating heat. As the temperature increases, the humidity

levels reduce significantly therefore calling for a humidification plant which increases the humidity. In this case if the temperature and humidity levels go up the cotton is boundto absorb moisture in the atmosphere

hence hampering the quality of the fabric yarn.

The chilled water produced from Thermax’s absorption chiller will be used to maintain temperature and humidity of the production area.

Q. Please introduce your Ultra

low pressure Vapour driven VAM

technology. What is the one

special feature of your product

that sets you apart from others?

The Ultra low pressure Vapour

driven VAM technology uses

very low pressure water vapour

(close to atmospheric pressure of

1.01325 bar) as the heat source

for running the Vapour Absorption

machine.It can also recover the

water which otherwise emitted

into the atmosphere as vapour.

This technology also use low

pressure water vapour along with

non-condensable gases (like

air,nitrogen etc)

Q. In what type of applicationscan

it be used?

This technology can be used

in food processing industries

like Potato chips frying, Noodles

etc. where lot of water vapour at

atmospheric pressure is emitted

through the chimney.This can

also be used in Chemicals and

Petro chemical industries where

the emitted low pressure water

vapour along with some non-

condensable gases can be

recovered through cooling tower

water.

Q. Please tell us about the most

innovative, or the latest, case

study involving this technology

A leading food and beverage

company placed an order

with Thermax for an Ultra-low

pressure absorption chiller for

their manufacturing plant in

India. The company was involved

in the manufacture of potato

chips. Potato has 75% water

content and upon frying it gets

converted into low pressure

vapour. Generally this vapour is

released in the atmosphere with

the help of an Induced Draft fan

inside the chimney. Thermax’s

500 TR absorption chiller utilizes

this vapour to provide air-

conditioning in the production

area of the facility which otherwise

would have been let off in the

atmosphere. The condensate from

absorption chiller is utilized for raw

potato washing and thus resulting

in substantial savings.

Q. What savings are achieved

on average and what are the

installation costs and return on

this investment in comparison

with other conventional chillers?

Through this technology,

Thermax encourages the

customer to make energy-saving

cooling choices and shortens

the payback time.The savings

in power consumption is 2.9

million units per annum, while

the carbon emission savings per

annum is 4000 tons on a VAM of

500 TR (1750 Kw) which is used

for air-conditioning application.

By utilizing this technology the

customer is also able to achieve

water savings of 24000 m3 /hr.

you see the biggest potential for

This product can have good

potential in Food processing

industries across the globe where

air conditioning and process

chilling are required.

HVAC EGYPT SUMMIT

The HVAC Egypt Summit, organized by the IQPC Exchange took place on 7th and 8th December, 2015 at the Renaissance Cairo Mirage City Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. Thermax was an Associate Sponsor for the Summit. The conference covered areas like Reviewing Egypt’s energy-efficiency measures for HVAC systems to understand long-term sustainability of electricity consumption and key construction projects in Egypt and what this means for the HVAC industry. The Summit enabled those in attendance to network with HVAC specialists who are actively involved in upcoming residential, commercial and industrial projects. The summit served as an ideal platform for developers, contractors, consultants and HVAC solution providers to discuss strategic partnerships and work together to help Egypt achieve optimum cooling and energy-efficiency.

Thermax Inc. participated in GLOBALCON 2016, held from March 9 to 10 at Boston. GLOBALCON 2016, presented by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) and hosted by National Grid connected buyers and sellers of energy related products and services, enabling the exchange of ideas, customer face-to –face interaction, training, industry networking and sales lead development.

Thermax exhibited its range of eco-friendly and energy efficient products and cooling solutions at the 17th editwion of the ACREX India 2016 held from February 25 to 27 at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC), Mumbai.

ACREX India organized by the Indian Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-

conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) is South Asia’s largest exhibition and conference on heating, refrigeration, ventilation and building services.

For the second consecutive year, Thermax won the first prize at the ACREX 2016 awards in the ‘Energy Saving’ Category. The award is a great achievement and a well-deserved recognition

for our commitment to offer sustainable products and solutions that are energy-efficient and environment friendly. The products showcased by Thermax are engineered to deliver cooling, increased efficiency and lower operating and maintenance costs.

The main attraction at the Thermax stall was the high-efficiency chiller-heater machine which was on display. Its unique features and specifications were explained at the stall. Apart from that, Thermax’s process cooling solutions received a lot of enquiries.

The theme for the 17th edition of ACREX is Make in India-Infinite Opportunities for HVAC&R and Building Services Industry captured the pulse of the government initiatives to promote India’s manufacturing capabilities.

The expo saw an increase in global participation by major players. ACREX 2016 had special designated areas called “country pavilions” to accommodate participants from China, Germany, USA, Korea, and first-time Turkey.

The Cooling business of Thermax  participated in ICCI 2016 – the 22nd International Energy and Environment Fair and Conference that took place at the Istanbul Expo Center from April 27 – 29, 2016. In the recent years, Turkey has turned out to be a key market for Thermax.

Thermax showcased its offerings for Co-generation and Tri-generation projects, innovative absorption offerings and process cooling solutions. They also held a Seminar for customers who were interested in gathering a deeper understanding of the technology and applications at the Istanbul Expo Centre.

ICCI 2016 offers a platform for the industry and investors to bring the solar and renewable energy market forward in Turkey

PATENT AWARDED

US patent for Thermax’s Hybrid absorption compression chillerThe Cooling business of Thermax received a US patent for its Hybrid

Absorption Compression Chiller earlier this year, in January 2016.The Hybrid

Absorption Compression Chiller is energy efficient and provides a higher COP

in comparison with the conventional chillers. This chiller comprises of a vapour

compression system providing refrigeration effect in a primary evaporator by

extracting heat from a medium to be cooled in a condensed primary refrigerator.

It also has a vapour absorption system for receiving primary refrigerant vapours

via a compressor. The vapours are cooled by a condensed secondary refrigerant

in a secondary evaporator to provide cold condensed primary refrigerant which

is recycled to the vapour compression system
