RESEARCH

IMDB

For my research I used many different websites to get varied knowledge. Using information from websites such as IMDB , were you are able to get reliable resources about what films are popular was helpful to get truthful knowledge.

YouTube Vimeo

I used YouTube for a lot of my research. I used this website to watch clips of other documentaries and get inspiration from them. I also used this website to upload my pre production videos and my final piece. The reason for this is because YouTube is a well known video sharing site and people trust it more to click on a link then any other website.

I used Vimeo to upload my rough cuts. The reason for this was that I wanted a wider range of experience for different websites. I also wanted to see the difference between loading speeds and quality. I believe that the quality is slightly higher on Vimeo than it is on YouTube, however the loading time on YouTube is quicker.

Tumblr

Tumblr is the website that I decided to use for my blog. It is an easy to use website and it lets you choose the theme and layout of your blog.

The reason I choose this website was because I have used Tumblr for a long time and feel like I know this blogging websites the best and was able to do more functions with it.

I get on better with it than WordPress and Blogger.

Another reason that I used Tumblr was because I knew I was able to embed SlideShare and YouTube videos straight into the blog, this was important to kept a professional look.

MICROSOFT OFFICE

Microsoft office helped me throughout the whole of my project, not just in the research stage. It was really useful and it was easy to access from home and school and it was easy to use. I used Microsoft Excel when I was constructing my gant chart and audio storyboard. It was easy to create timelines and colour in when the dates were set.

I used Microsoft Word to write up all of my documents and also used this program to collect all the data that I have found while doing research.

I used Microsoft PowerPoint to create my slide shows. This was a easier way to get information across with out somebody having to read a huge chunk of writing.

SlideShare Google Docs

The reason that I used slide share was that it was easy to embed my PowerPoint’s into a blog. I could not find another website that did this as well as slide share.

I used google docs because it is an easy way to present documents you have create online. I was also able to embed this into my blog to create a professional look.

Converging Media

I use a lot of convergence throughout my project. Examples of this are using Slide Share to upload my PowerPoint's onto my blog. This is using three different technologies to create on final product.

Another example of this is when I used the scanner to scan images into a word document which I then uploaded to Google docs which I then embedded into my blog.

Social Networking

I used Facebook within my project to get feedback from an audience. When I created a questionnaire I would place a link to it on Facebook and ask people to share it around. This way I could get a wide range of responses. By getting people to share it to their friends I was able to get a larger age range and not just my peers.

I also did this with my final piece. I put a link onto Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook so that I could get feedback from what people thought about it.

I used a scanner to scan all of my

storyboards in. This gives a better higher quality image, rather than taking a picture

of the sheets of paper.

school uses so it was the email software

that I used to contact the people in my

documentary.

I used my canon camera to film everything involved

with my documentary. This is because I wanted it to be a high quality production, and I believe that it gives off a professional look.

EDITING: Final Cut Express

I prefer using Final Cut Express because I am able to do many more advanced effect than in iMovie. Some of the different effects that I added were: Tint – The reason that used this to create the black and white effect

that I use on the characters. This is to make it different from all the other clips.

Slowed clips down 25% - I did this with my clips at the beginning so that the audience had more time to see the clips down so that they can see it clearer.

Colour correction – The reason that I used this was because of some of the interviews were quite orange due to the lighting. I was able to change the colour to make the video seem more well lite.

EDITING: iMoive

I also used iMovie to edit some of my pre production videos. I used this because this videos didn’t need any important editing done to them and they just needed to be cut up. This was something that iMovie could do easily. I also used iMovie for some of my titles in my final piece. The reason for this was that the software had some preset titles that worked well for my piece. I prefer Final Cut to iMovie because of the things that you can do with Final Cut are so much more advanced.

Prezi is a website that creates presentations. I used this site for a way to present my work which was a bit different and more interesting to look at. I

feel like this gives a professional and fun feel to

the way that most presentations are presented.

PHOTOSHOP AUDACITY

I used Photoshop to create the newspaper advert that I used to advertise the documentary. I feel like this is the best image editing software that was on the school’s computers. Other programs that they had were Paint and Illustrator. These are both more basic then Photoshop and I wouldn’t be able to do some of the things that I do in Photoshop such as layers and colour correction .

I used Audacity to create the radio trailer that I used to promote the documentary. Audacity is a free program that is used to edit and level sound. I thought that this was the best option for my radio trailer. I preferred to using this than Garage Band because I find that Garage Band can be quite cheesy and I wanted a professional sounding trailer.
