As a researcher in academics work never stops and an everlasting feeling of tiredness took over last year. I felt the need to work on my fitness to cope better with the workload and the ups and downs that come with project based research. However, I could not imagine myself joining a gym. Recommended by a friend and colleague, I looked into the possibility of joining the Corporate Fitness program at UWA at the start of 2009. It could not have been a better choice: friendly and supportive trainers, a great choice of fitness hours and classes to attend and the venue is undeniably “a room with a view”. Overlooking Matilda Bay with doors wide open during the warmer months of the year almost makes you believe you are on the water itself when doing a work out on the rowing machines. The venue is hard to beat by any other gym, but for senior personnel at UWA maybe the best attraction is the possibility to work on your fitness in small groups of peers, who may have been as apprehensive as myself to step into the world of cardio, muscles and sweat. Only left to say that I am amazed how much better and fitter I feel since attending the program’s Total Fitness classes twice a week.

Anke van EekelenUWA Adjunct Senior Lecturer & Research Fellow at The UWA Centre for Child Health Research

TestimonialsI joined the Corporate Fitness Program after attending the launch of the Program and seeing the potential benefits of participating. I was particularly keen to improve my physical fitness. My fitness levels had declined considerably and my weight had also increased after giving up playing basketball some five years ago. I am pleased to report that my fitness levels have increased markedly, my weight has dropped some 20kg and my overall sense of well being has also improved. The Corporate Fitness Program has provided me with an excellent opportunity to strive towards my personal fitness goals in the conducive environment of the Watersports Complex overlooking the Swan River under the tutelage of attentive professional staff.
