RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES: There will be NO Religious Ed classes on Wednesday, February 26th. Students and

LADIES LENTEN BIBLE STUDY GROUP: We will NOT be meeting on Tuesday, February 25th due to
the Pre-Lenten Gathering and supper. The group will study the book, “Walking in Her Sandals” - Experiencing
Christ’s Passion through the Eyes of Women. Through the eyes of women in the gospels, this book guides you on a
prayerful and creative journey through the passion of Jesus.

The group will meet for 6 weeks at 7:00pm Tuesday evenings from February 18th and going through March 24th in the

PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE! On Saturday, March 7th, the Rosary before Mass will begin at 4:15pm. The
intention of this rosary will be for persecuted Christians and will be lead by the Knights of Columbus.
SUNDAY MORNING LENTEN SESSIONS: A Lenten study on prayer and the power of Lectio Divina will be offered through
the six Sundays of Lent, beginning March 1st at 8:00 am. In six video sessions, Prayer: Finding Intimacy with God captures the secret to
opening our hearts and minds to Scripture as the means to hear from God and then respond in conversation, basking in his presence and re-
solving to live in and through his love. In each session, Dr. Tim Gray masterfully uses the discipline of Lectio Divina to show you how to
make prayer an effective effort of love and intimacy. After the video, discussion will be held. Everyone is welcome to attend!

STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE FOR FEB. 23rd: In today’s first reading, the Israelites are urged to love their neighbors as
themselves. In the Gospel, Jesus spells out how we are to do that—to give generously to those who ask of us and not to turn our backs on
those who seek to borrow.
FOOD BANK SUNDAY: Please bring your non-perishable food items to the church on Sunday, March 1st, Food Bank Sunday. Do-
nations will go to the Hoisington and Rush County Food Banks.
SPIRITUAL DIRECTION: A HUNGER TO KNOW GOD—Every faith tradition in the world has seeker-guide relation-
ships. Jesus, who drew people into relationship walked with them and illuminated their lives with the startling truth of God’s Kingdom, is
the template of all spiritual directors in the Christian faith.
What is Spiritual Direction? Spir itual direction is meeting with a trained & exper ienced director to reflect on how
God is present and active in your life right now, and how God might be calling you into deeper relationship. God is the Director; the human
director serves as the vessel through which the Spirit works to uncover the Divine at work in your everyday experiences. The content of the
direction session is simply your life: whatever aspect, story, or experience you feel moved to bring to the session. Your directory may help
you with discernment, spiritual practices, methods of prayer, and at times suggest scripture and other spiritual reading that may enlighten
your path. He/she is present as a compassionate and respectful witness to the joys & sorrows of your journey. Together you pray for that
“closer walk” with God.
Questions one may ask to see if spiritual direction would help: Do you yearn to be more spir itually present in your
everyday life? Are you seeking discernment regarding a particular life issue? Do you want to deepen your connection with God? Do you
want to enhance your prayer life?
Spiritual direction is a ministry within the Church. Judy Spangler has completed the 3 year program offered by the Heart-
land Center of Spirituality to become a certified Spiritual director. If you would like to schedule a session for direction,

The St. Ann’s Altar Society is
accepting applications for their
scholarship that is open to St.
Ann’s parishioners’ children who
are preparing to enter study at a
level of higher education within
the next calendar year. The $300 scholarship will be
awarded annually in May. All applications must be re-

found in the back of church. Preparing for Lent
Here are a few simple ways that you can try to prepare for Lent: 1. Get moving physically Being made of both body and soul, we are inclined to forget how much the body tends to influence the state of our souls. The days when we sit around on the couch for hours, we’re much, much less likely to have the energy to do the right thing. We give less time to our families, and can gen-erally be depressed about our own state of affairs, which leads to a subtle sense of hopelessness.
But on the days when we’ve taken a walk, or exercised a bit, it couldn’t be more different. We’re more cheerful, more hopeful, and have more energy to give to our family. It’s the perfect state of mind to try to begin to make changes in our lives. 2. Get moving mentally Feed your mind. Even if you aren’t doing spiritual reading, any reading at all might help more than you think. Just reading a whole article, instead of just the headline and then a quick skim, has a way of fostering the habit of follow-ing through on what you’ve started. It helps us learn not to give up easily. And the mind, like any muscle, needs to be used, to stay strong. Using your mind more often can help deepen your understanding of your faith, which is rich beyond measure, and has so much to offer. 3. Start noticing your problem areas You don’t have to pick your resolutions yet, but now is the time to start thinking about what areas of your life need to be revived. Has your temper been especially short lately? A good examination of conscience will direct you to reso-lutions that are personally right for you, and help you see your Lenten goals more clearly. There’s also that old gim-mick: try to name the seven deadly sins. The one you have the most trouble remembering is the one you may be struggling with. 4. Get yourself to the sacraments If you’ve already made a good examination of conscience, don’t waste it. Go to confession! If you have time for dai-ly Mass, or Adoration, even if it’s just once, you won’t regret it. It’s always the best possible decision to try to get closer to Jesus. That’s the whole point of our whole life, after all. 5. Pray, pray, pray You don’t have to be in the mood, you don’t have to have energy, and you don’t have to have anything to say for your prayer to be a good one. What matters is perseverance. Never underestimate the power of forming a habit. It’s so hard at first, but once it’s part of your routine, it becomes second nature. And wouldn’t you love it if daily prayer was second nature to you? ***Taken from www.aleteia.org

fruitful Lent: St. Ann and St.
John parishioners are encouraged
to join us for a pre-Lenten gather-
ing. At 6:00pm, we will begin with a pot-luck meal, fried
chicken and drinks will be provided. Please bring a side
dish or dessert. This will be held in the spirit of Mardi
Gras on “fat Tuesday”, February 25th in St. John’s
Parish Center. There are sign-up sheets in the back of
both churches.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults):
Are you or people you know searching for a church to call
home? If so, the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
may be for you! The RCIA is a time to come together to learn
about the Church and to discern if God is calling you to become
Catholic at this time. If you have questions, or would like more

There will be an inquiry session on Thursday, March 5 at 7:00

LENTEN DAY OF PRAYER: Sat., March 7th from
9am-3pm at the Heartland Center—3600 Broadway, Great
Bend. Cost is $50 and the day will be presented by the Heart-

will be a loving, prayerful & spiritual day for all who attend.
The day will be spent making time for individual prayer, group
prayer, and for exploring different methods of prayer. Start
your retreat on Friday night by attending our Movie with Mes-
sage; Paul, Apostle of Christ. Overnight accommodations
available both nights if you wish. Spiritual Direction will be
available during the retreat for $15 for a 20 minute session.
LENTEN STUDY SERIES—History of the Mass:
Monday evenings at the Heartland Center from 6:30-7:45pm on
March 2, 16, & 30. Cost is $20 & Sr. Francine Schwarzen-
berger, OP will be the presenter. From its Jewish roots to our
own time, the Christian Eucharist (Mass) has developed in re-
markable ways. Each era has its own historical & theological
contexts for expression. Learn how worship is embodied and

BLESSING OF BABIES: Parish members are invited to participate in the Blessing of Babies where expect-
ing mothers receive a rose and a blessing from Father. Families can then place their rose under the church’s statue
of Mary & continue to pray the blessing along with the entire parish until birth. Each rose possesses a holy medal
which can then be presented at the child’s baptism. Father asks that families, mothers, fathers, grandparents, fami-
ly members who would like to celebrate this new life to call the parish office at 653-2963 and set up a time for
their baby’s rose presentation & blessing.
