YCDI - Working Tough Our You Can Do It focus over the next few weeks shifts to Working Tough, which comes under the banner of
Persistence. Working Tough is defined by the program as the students thinking that to be successful,
sometimes I have to do things that are not easy or fun.
We know as adults that not everything that has to be done at our workplaces or in our lives is a joyous
experience. For instance, taking a child to the doctors to receive an immunisation injection is often a
traumatic experience for both the child and parent involved, but we do it anyway because we know how
important this task is.
Similarly, even those of us who get to do our dream jobs often have to start off at the “ground floor” and are
tasked with jobs that were not quite what we had in mind when we first envisioned the profession. However,
we know that if we don’t do these things, not only will we not get paid but often someone else’s job will
become harder as a result of the tasks not being done.
It is through our focus on Working Tough that we aim to instil such values within our students. While
teachers try to make the content of their lessons as interesting as possible, not everything that has to be
taught will be the favourite topic of every student. Therefore, there are times when students will simply
have to put their heads down and make the effort in order to achieve the success that we are all after.
It’s also worth looking at the price of not Working Tough. When successful people have to perform a task
they don’t like, they start it straight away and get it out of the way as quickly as possible. However, those
people who choose to complain or avoid the work waste a lot of mental energy before the task is even
started. Then even more time needs to be spent completing the task itself afterwards. This means that by
not Working Tough, we are only increasing the amount of time that an unpleasant task will take and making
our lives more miserable!
Please feel free to discuss these matters with your children at home and encourage them to Work Tough
with their schooling. Together, we can do it.

Help RPPS by Collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Stickers
Thank you to everyone helping our school in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. We
have quite a few finished sticker sheets already. Please don’t forget to hand any sheets in
to the library or post them into the drop box in the foyer. If you don’t have a sticker sheet
feel free to drop the stickers into the drop box too.
We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program which will allow
us to obtain many new resources for our school.
Thankyou
Chris Quayle
Holiday Reading Club We are going to trial a holiday reading club at the end of term 3. If you would be
interested in this for your child/children, or want further information about what
would be involved, please contact Chris in the library as soon as possible to
register your interest.

Our Program! The Outside School Hours Care program at Roxburgh Park Primary School combines active
games with planned and unplanned play, quiet time, homework time and a healthy snack.
While in before and after school care, the children enjoy participating in arts and craft, cooking
activities, indoor/outdoor games and free play. Recently, some of the fun things the children have
made are animal tube crafts, craft characters and handprints.
The children have also been enjoying playing with the parachute as a group and taking turns
running underneath and swapping with each other. The children have lots of fun and have had
many laughs!

Prison Escape
Two stealthy boys went to MacDonald’s take all of the food and money.
“Give us all of the food and the money now!!” shouted Robert and
Callum. Everyone screamed in fear. “Everyone on the ground and don’t
get up or else” said Robert. “YEAH!” shouted Callum. “Flip, the cops are
here!” shouted Robert.
The police called Robert and Callum out and demanded they put their
guns on the ground. “Never!” screamed Callum. “Come out now or we
will use force!” shouted a cop. “What now dude?” asked Callum. “I don’t
know man” said Robert. Then someone knocked out Robert and Callum.
The police took them to prison while they were knocked out.
Robert and Callum woke up in a cell confused where they were. “Dude
where are we?” asked Callum. “I don’t know man…I think we are in
prison!” replied Robert. “Oh no man, I can’t be in prison. I hate it, prison
sucks,” cried Callum. “Dude, you think I care?” said Robert. “All we
need to do is break out. It’s easy. Then we will be fine” said Robert.
“Ok” said Callum.
Callum agreed with the break out plan and a few days later Robert got
TNT. “The plan is set and the TNT is set too” said Robert. “YAY!” joyfully
screamed Callum. “Ok, now let’s get lots of prisoners to come with us,”
said Robert. “Why?” asked Callum. “Cause I said so Callum” snapped
Robert. “Fine” sighed Callum.
Callum and Robert gathered up many prisoners to escape with them.
Robert blew a hole in the floor “ok let’s leave guys” said Robert.
Everyone screamed in joy. All the prisoners left prison to go back to
shop lifting places.

Why the blue tongue lizard has a blue
tongue.
Long, long ago back in the time of dreaming, a lizard was crawling
through a cold, adventurous rainforest.
Eventually the lizard asked his lizard friend for water, so the lizard went
off to the river to fetch some water for the first lizard.
Meanwhile the lizard finally arrived back from carrying the heavy water
in a bucket. The lizard drank as quickly as a pig.
A little later the lizard was hungry so the lizard said, “Get me some
leaves to eat!” The lizard’s friend was a bit angry, but the lizard went off
to collect some leaves for her friend.
Suddenly she arrived back to the lizard. He munched the leaves so
quickly he did not even say thank you.
A bit later, the lizard said, “Polish my skin.” However, this time the
lizard’s friend said “No way! You’re just lazy and selfish.” So the lizard’s
friend gave the lizard a blue tongue. It was as blue as the shiny ocean.
Lastly, a spirit woman came along spreading sparkling Dreamtime dust
everywhere. “Why are you so sad?” asked the spirit woman. The lizard
replied, “I made my friend do all the work for me.” The spirit woman
said, “Okay, I will send you back – only if you promise to never do that
again.”
“I won’t.” So the lizard went back home.
