Stewardship Reflection: October 17th, 2021 -

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time “For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

If you held a mirror up to your life, would it reflect God’s love and mercy? If you are struggling with this, try changing your attitude from “I want more” to “thank you God for everything you have given me, I have enough to share”. This change in perspective will bring you joy through service to others. Pray daily to become less self-centered and to become more God-centered. Copyright © 2021 Archdiocese of St Louis

St Nicholas Parish continues its pastoral work & we appreciate your continued financial support. Please consider giving online through the Parish’s website or dropping off your envelopes during office hours. Thank you for your generosity.

THE SECOND ENVELOPE NEXT WEEK, Oct 24th, IS FOR WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

On World Mission Sunday, we join our Holy Father, Pope Francis, in supporting his missions.

Together, through our prayers & financial support, we bring the Lord’s mercy & concrete help to the

most vulnerable communities, as it offers each one of us an opportunity to support the life-giving presence of the Church among the poor &

marginalized.

THE SECOND ENVELOPE ON SUNDAY, OCT 31st IS FOR THE PARISH’S

BUILDING FUND

ALL SOULS DAY / NOVEMBER MONTH OF HOLY SOULS The month of November is a special time to remember the souls of our dearly departed loved ones. Please use the envelopes in the Church’s foyer, to have loved ones remembered at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the month of November. No cheques, please.

PROJECT ADVANCE 2021 – PHASE 2 PARISH LAUNCH Your Parish Project Advance team is now launching Phase 2 of our Project Advance appeal for 2021.

In June, 2021, the Archbishop commenced Phase 1 of the 2021 Project Advance campaign; “Our Way Forward”. To date St. Nicholas Parishioners have responded generously & our parish has met & exceeded our Archdiocesan goal

of $26,000. Thank you to all those donors. Our Parish fundraising goal this year is $110,000. As always, the remainder of these funds raised, beyond the $26,000 Archdiocesan Goal, returns to the parish to help us achieve our goals. Through the generosity of our parishioners, particularly during the pandemic, we anticipate being able to pay off our current mortgage debt this year. The additional funds raised through our 2021 Project Advance campaign will be dedicated to saving toward the future development of our school & church building projects.

Please help our parish move forward by making a gift to Project Advance today. Over the next couple of weeks all parishioners will receive in the mail, correspondence from Father Nixon & a Project Advance donation card. There are a variety of payment options detailed on the pledge card, including online giving

by going to the parish website at www.stnicholaslangley.com & selecting the Giving tab which contains a Project Advance link. Then select St. Nicholas as your parish.

Every gift is important to us in collectively achieving our parish goal. “Live gratefully, give generously.”

This Sunday, Oct 17th from 5pm to 7pm is Open Gym & Board Games night! If you have a fun board game you want to bring, please do so! Questions? Email Brandon: [email protected]

CALLING ALL ST. NICHOLAS’ YOUNG ADULTS !

On Saturday, Oct 23rd after the 5pm Mass, we will be heading to

The Barley Merchant for some food & drinks!

Please RSVP as soon as possible on Facebook or email Brandon at:

[email protected] so he can make reservations.

Are you – or someone you know - interested in joining the Catholic Church? RCIA at St. Nicholas has begun, but there is still time to join us! RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is an 8-month process that prepares adults for full initiation into the Catholic Church, focusing on the basics of the faith & culminating in Baptism, First Communion & Confirmation. We foster a welcoming group atmosphere. This is a great opportunity for people to experience the community of St. Nicholas & explore whether the Catholic faith resonates with them. We meet on Tuesday evenings beginning at 7pm. For more information, please contact Cheryl Unruh at 604-250-2733.

EMAIL FRAUD WARNING: An Ongoing Problem within the Archdiocese The Archdiocese of Vancouver & individual Parishes have fallen victim to Internet email phishing scams. Imposters, posing as priests & using email addresses that are similar to a Priest’s email, have been emailing or texting people, asking for personal donations, gift cards & other forms of financial assistance. NEVER respond to emails requesting gift cards, or any financial assistance, even if it appears to be from your Parish Priest or clergy.

SENIORS’ OKTOBERFEST LUNCH – This Wednesday, Oct 20th @ 12:30pm Due to covid health restrictions, there are a limited number of tickets available, since we are allowed only half capacity in the Pope Francis room. To purchase a ticket, please contact Sandy Shaw: 604-866-8510. Tickets are $15pp SENIOR DROP-IN continues every Wednesday @ 1pm. On Wednesday, Oct 13th, we will meet in Classroom 4. There will be signs posted to help you get there. We look forward to greeting friends old and new!

YOUTH CHOIR (YC): Do you have a child who loves to sing? St. Nicholas’ Youth Choir is about to begin for the 2021-2022 year! Students in grades 2 & up, are invited to join us. We sing at one 10:30am Sunday Mass each month, with practices the previous two Saturdays of that month (the registration form will show practices & Mass schedules). This is a great way to become more involved in the Parish & more engaged in the Mass. Grade 7 & high school students may also be able to use choir participation towards service or volunteer hour requirements. We ask all those interested to please register. Registration forms can be found on the Parish website under the “Music” Ministry or in the Church’s foyer. Return your completed form to the Parish office Our first practice will be next Saturday, October 23rd @ 10am in the Church.. For more info, please email: [email protected] or [email protected].

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS PANCAKE BREAKFAST IS BACK ! Next Sunday, Oct 24th, the St Nicholas Knights of Columbus Council will be serving pancakes, scrambled eggs, breakfast sausages & trimmings, after the 8:30am & 10:30am Masses. Serving by donation. Bring your family & friends & hope to see you there!

CWL RELIGIOUS ARTICLES SALE – Saturday & Sunday, Oct 30 - 31 & Nov 6 -7, 2021 After 2 years, the CWL will host their bi-annual Religious Article Sale of gently used religious books, jewelry, statues, crosses, rosaries, pictures & many more items. Because we already have many donated articles, we will not accept any donations at this time, but ask that you please keep them for our Lenten sale next year.

Due to covid regulations, the sale will be held in the Parish Centre & not in our Church foyer as before. There will be tables set up in the Parish Centre for 2 weekends for viewing & purchasing on both Saturdays from 8:30am until 6:30pm & on both Sundays from 8am until 1pm, as well as before & after the 7pm mass on Sunday. Everything is by donation (cash only please) & all proceeds are distributed evenly among the Domestic Abuse Services, the Church’s Building Fund, & CWL projects. Please come & support this worthwhile fundraiser.

Looking to St. Joseph in Life and in Death – Friday, Nov 12th @ 7pm - 9pm We don’t know much about the last hours of St. Joseph from Scripture, but tradition &

early-century sacred art portray him as dying peacefully in the arms of Jesus & Mary. This

is why St. Joseph is known as the patron of a grace-filled & happy death. Join us for a

webinar with Fr. Pio Vottola, O.Praem, Sr. Catherine Mary Clarke, FSE & Michele Smillie

who will share stories & answer questions about what it means to have a grace-filled

passing, how having the end in mind can help us embrace life more fully & how we can

conquer our own fears of dying through the example & intercession of St. Joseph.
